Canelo’s chance to win is why Floyd ducks Pacquiao

canelo66Aside from his brilliance to handpick toys, Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s ability to score points and beat his opponents lies in the “invincibility” of his defense. This is ax and stealth for him. And this is why he looks unstoppable in boxing.

Unlike Manny Pacquiao, Mayweather can’t be caught with a “lucky” punch because Mayweather is into “politics.” Floyd is focused and knows what he’s doing. He belongs to the sport as a Money man “Ninja Turtle.” He is master at protecting his head in ring fights and has the natural talent to elude being hit such that no other boxers both past and present can equal his prowess in that aspect, so it seems.

Though, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and his strategists need not complicate the matter for themselves in preparation for “The One” bout. Bombard Mayweather with unrelenting torpedo combinations and Mayweather will be captured open to succumb and fall.

Floyd Mayweather Quotes, Photos and Training Video – Mayweather/Alvarez

MayweatherWorkout4Alvarez_Hoganphotos6Seventeen days before the record-breaking “THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO” mega-event on Saturday, Sept. 14, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., live on SHOWTIME PPV®,, boxing superstar Floyd “Money” Mayweather hosted the biggest Media Day of his career Wednesday at The Mayweather Boxing Club.

Hordes of media from around the world crammed into the upscale gym in Las Vegas to watch the Eight-Time and Five-Division World Champion (44-0, 26 KO’s) as he continued to prepare for his long-awaited showdown against WBC, WBA & Ring Magazine Super Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) during Mexican Independence Day Weekend.

Mayweather/Canelo: Calling Out Leonard Ellerbe: A Response To A Questionable Response

After watching the video in the ESB article entitled, “Team Mayweather Calls Canelo’s Management Inept In Episode 2 of ALL ACCESS,” by ShowTime Boxing, published August 29, 2013, I knew I had to respond—out loud—to what I believe, are misleading comments that Leonard Ellerbe made about Team Alvarez and how the 152 lb. catchweight limit was arrived at for this fight. My biggest issue with what Ellerbe said is that he didn’t tell the whole story. He just modified it to suit Team Mayweather’s needs. So, I’m calling you out, Leonard Ellerbe.

Floyd Mayweather vs. Saul Alvarez – a technical comparison and forecast

Mayweather and Canelo faceoffThe two candidates for “The One” on Sept. 14 are the most discussed boxers at present. A technical review of some key points in their game could shift the focus away from weight loss and diet speculations, emotionally biased pro and cons with utter disrespect for one and idolizing praise for the other. Both boxers deserve respect prior to the fight and I hope both will be worthy of it after September 14.

Boxing is not an exact science and it does not “compute” well. The sweet science has very little to do with a single science at all. Game plans very often last until the first sub-concussive blow and strategies sometimes turn out to be wishful thinking. However there is a system of fundamental skills (the basics) and it will be my basis for my technical comparison.

Saul Canelo Alvarez Media Day Workout Quotes / Photos

canelo22BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. (Aug. 28, 2013) – Dozens of TV camera crews, newspaper reporters, photographers, online boxing media and bloggers made the 100-plus mile trek up the mountain to Big Bear Lake from the Los Angeles area on Tuesday to catch their final glimpse of WBC, WBA & Ring Magazine Super Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) before he travels to Las Vegas for his mega-showdown with undefeated Eight-Time and Five-Division World Champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather (44-0, 26 KO’s) as they headline “THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO’’ fight card on Saturday, Sept. 14, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., live on SHOWTIME PPV®.

During his two-hour media workout at Shane Mosley’s jam-packed home gym, that was streamed live on YouTube, UStream, sports.sho.com/live, http://www.goldenboypromotions.com, and http://www.mayweatherpromotions.com, the super welterweight world champion did countless interviews, some in groups and others in one-on-ones. He also hit the heavy bag, sparred several rounds with weighted gloves and did calisthenics as 50’s doo-wop and early 60’s music blared in the background.

Left-Hook Lounge: Mayweather/Canelo “ALL ACCESS”, Mares/Gonzalez, Guerrero/Thurman, & Russell Jr.

Mayweather and Canelo faceoffMartin N. (Philadelphia, PA): You have been consistent from day one about Canelo’s better-than-average chances against Floyd Mayweather in September. Did you see anything on All-Access to sway your opinion one way or the other?

Vivek W. (ESB): I wouldn’t say that I saw anything in the “All Access” episode one to really give me a reason to adjust my position. What I will say is that I saw a few things that did in fact solidify the position I’ve held from day one, though. One of the most intriguing highlights of this episode was when Floyd openly acknowledged something I’ve talked about for quite some time. That was the fact that to a degree, Canelo has been an “understudy” of him, who actually employs many of his same ring strategies, and will inevitably attempt to use them on him. Years ago, I said the fighter I see having a real shot at Floyd will be a guy like Floyd. Hard to hit, a thinking fighter, a strategy swapper (mid-fight when necessary), and a tough S.O.B. who can take a lickin’ and keep tickin’!

Saul Alvarez vs. Floyd Mayweather – style, weight and age issues

Canelo and Mayweather face offSeptember 14 is near and “The One” will stand out hopefully without controversy. I am not sure who will be favored by the politics if it comes to that. Floyd was never a KO artist and after moving up in weight he did not bring his punch with him. Saul Alvarez knocking out Floyd Mayweather is not a scenario that pundits would even consider although „Canelo“ seems to hit hard enough. The outcome will probably depend on the judges.

There are labels for matching up different styles like “a boxer vs. a puncher“, “a stylist vs. a brawler“, if I had to label the fight I’d say “a boxer vs. a fighter” but there would be a lot of “fine print“ under that label.

Floyd Mayweather‘s style is unconventional for the pro ranks as it is fundamentally based on the Olympic/amateur boxing style. His amateur boxing skills have been optimized and modified for prize fighting.
