Vegas, Nigeria, London! Where should a Joshua-Klitschko rematch take place?

We are almost two-and-a-half months removed from the first fight between heavyweights Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko, yet we still don’t know if there will be a rematch, and if so where it will be held.

Okay, in today’s boxing world, where the big-name heavies fight on average twice a year, two-and-a-half months is not very long at all, but Klitschko did say, shortly after his exciting stoppage loss to Joshua, that he would make a decision on his future by the end of June. We are now approaching mid-July and we still don’t know if the 41 year old future Hall of Famer will box again.

Hearn: Klitschko doesn't want to return to the UK for Joshua rematch; if no return AJ will fight Pulev October 28

According to Eddie Hearn, former heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko does not wish to return to the UK for a rematch with Anthony Joshua. Klitschko, still to make up his mind on the rematch, officially at least, Wladimir wants the fight to take place “abroad,” Hearn told The Mirror; not in London or Cardiff.

Klitschko, Hearn says, wants the return fight to be “a big event,” and Las Vegas and Nigeria are the two frontrunners to land the sequel to the April 29 classic – if it goes ahead at all.

Anthony Joshua will face either Klitschko or Pulev next, says he's “not bothered either way”

There hasn’t been a big, exciting world heavyweight title fight showdown in Las Vegas for some years now, but this could very possibly change later on this year. New star and reigning WBA/IBF heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua told Sky Sports how he believes the opportunity to fight him in a big rematch fight in Vegas will inspire Wladimir Klitschko; “get his blood boiling again,” is how AJ put it.

Boxing Rescued

Boxing Rescued

It’s no longer news that Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko put up a five star performance when the duo clashed in what has become a historic event, having 90,000 people parked in one stadium to watch the finest of a boxing bout in recent time. It was a show of two determined athletes who were ready to surpass the odds to become champions. Before this event the sport actually saw an upset when Tyson Fury out boxed the Ukrainian, the build up to that fight went from trash talking to comical display with Fury appearing in a press conference in a batman uniform or regalia. The Brit did something that really impressed me in that he did not accord Wladimir any form of respect, even on fight night the 6foot plus Fury complained about the ring canvass which was attended to. In all it was some form of entertainment stunt put up by him to upset the champion.

Whose thumping of the great Wladimir Klitschko was more impressive; Joshua's or Fury's?

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury have been going back and forth on social media, engaging a war of words ahead of, we hope, a super fight between the two giants. Both men are unbeaten, talented and have a genuine claim to being the best heavyweight in the world – and it is their respective wins over Wladimir Klitschko that give both AJ and “The Gypsy King” the right to claim their dominance over the division.

Tyson Fury on him Vs. Joshua: “If it doesn't happen it will be like Lennox Lewis-Riddick Bowe”

Of all the must-see, must happen fights that we didn’t actually see, because they didn’t happen, the 1990s heavyweight classic that would have been Lennox Lewis-Riddick Bowe has to be one of the biggest disappointments. Back and forth these two stars and rival champions went, only for the fight to fail to get off the ground.

Former heavyweight king Tyson Fury does not want a fight between himself and Anthony Joshua to go the same way: nowhere. Just this week, unbeaten WBA/IBF champ Joshua called Fury out, saying this is the fight the fans want and therefore it is “top of my list.”

Joshua-Klitschko II “is happening” says Hearn

Promoter Eddie Hearn says he feels a return fight between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko will happen, next. Speaking today with Sky Sports News, Hearn said that as far as he is concerned the rematch “is happening unless we are told otherwise by Bernd Boente and Wladimir Klitschko.”

Fans are eager to see a return fight between the two giants, as fight one was so great. Klitschko, who put on a fine performance despite losing the thrilling fight, is expected to speak with manager Boente this week. Right now, Hearn is looking at potential venues for the sequel.

It will be Kubrat Pulev next for Joshua if Klitschko retires, says Hearn

Anthony Joshua, the recently crowned IBF/WBA heavyweight king, is arguably THE hottest fighter in the sport right now, yet his next fight will be decided by the man AJ beat in stunning fashion last month.

Wladimir Klitschko, the proud ex-champ who, despite losing in an heroic effort, raised his game to tremendous heights on April 29, has a rematch if he wants to take it. It is now up to the 41 year old: will he retire, or will he demand the rematch, maybe in October or November of this year? Joshua says he is happy to fight “Dr. Steel Hammer” a second time – and the entire boxing population wants to see a sequel, the April battle was so great – even in Germany.
