Fight fans got excited today, as news broke suggesting strongly how a return fight between middleweight rivals Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez was all but a done deal for May 5 – with just a few minor items to be settled (such as the venue for the bout) before the fight we all want to see (again) would be announced to the world.

Deontay Wilder given 60-hours community service for marijuana possession
Just a week after news came out about how former heavyweight king Mike Tyson is to open a cannabis ranch in Death Valley, comes a 60-day community service sentence for reigning WBC heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder due to his possession of marijuana. Wilder, who was pulled over in his tinted-windowed car back in June, has been sentenced to carry out his 60 hours at a local YMCA, reports say.
Recalling the Ezzard Charles-Archie Moore wars
Whenever any list of the greatest-ever light-heavyweights is compiled, two names are ALWAYS present: Archie Moore and Ezzard Charles. Moore, the undisputed KO-King, was world champion at 175; “Ageless Archie” enjoying a both long and memorable reign. Charles, as good as he was, was never world ruler at 175, yet he did go one better than Moore, in winning the world heavyweight crown.
Charles, one fine, fine fighter, also bested Moore on three occasions in non-tile bouts. Many fans rank Moore as the overall greater fighter, but Charles, as the saying goes, really did have Moore’s number. Their final fight took place 70-years ago this week (January 13, 1948).
Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan “in negotiations” for fight with Danny Jacobs!
In his last fight back in December, on the under-card of the Billy Joe Saunders Vs. David Lemieux fight, Ireland’s Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan picked up a most impressive win of his own. Stopping Antoine Douglas in the seventh round of a good fight, O’Sullivan set himself up for a bigger fight.
Revenge: Is there any interest in an Amir Khan vs Breidis Prescott II here in 2018?
As fight fans have read, Amir Khan is back in business, having signed what he hopes will prove to be a hugely successful three-fight deal with one-time “enemy” Eddie Hearn. Khan will be fighting in Liverpool on April 21st, but his dance partner will not be revealed until next week some time. All we have to go on is Hearn stating how the opponent will not be any kind of a pushover.
Jeff Horn agrees terms for Terence Crawford fight, official announcement for April 21 fight could come next week
It looks as though the April 21 clash between reigning WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn and unbeaten challenger and former 140 pound king Terence Crawford is all set to go. According to a news piece via The New Daily, Horn has “agreed on all the key terms” and he and his team are fully anticipating the fight to go ahead.
Errol Spence wants to take over from Floyd Mayweather, Andre Ward as the best boxer in the world
With the retirement last year of Andre Ward and the apparent departure of Floyd Mayweather (apparent because with Floyd we never know and there is seemingly always talk of him having “one more fight”) most fans have placed either Vasyl Lomachenko or Terence Crawford in the pole position when it comes to which fighter has the best shot at taking over as THE best in the game.
Happy Birthday, George Foreman: “Big George” is 69 today – is Foreman the greatest living heavyweight?
Heavyweight legend, former two-time king George Foreman today celebrates his 69th birthday. In great health, and always in great spirits, “Big George” is the elder statesman of boxing, the way the departed Muhammad Ali perhaps should have been in his later years had ill health not struck him down. Immensely popular (it’s so hard to believe how Foreman was a bad guy, a disliked fighter back in the 1970s), Foreman perhaps holds the distinction of being the greatest living heavyweight boxer.
Amir Khan to hold presser in London tomorrow, set to announce something “major” – whispers says Khan has signed with Eddie Hearn!
Amir Khan is set to host a press conference in London tomorrow, during which the former 140 pound champ will make what he himself says will be “a major announcement.” Just this week rumors surfaced, suggesting Khan has a fight set against Adrien Broner, but while this may indeed be the big news the 31 year old will release officially tomorrow, there are more whispers saying he has even bigger news.
The night Larry Holmes gave Howard Cosell a bloody mouth
There was a time when Howard Cosell was very much the voice of boxing; the man on the microphone whenever the big, big fights took place. Cosell, though, was far from the most popular sports commentator in the world, with some people, be it fans or active fighters, feeling the ABC man was just a little bit too big-headed and pompous for his own good.
