Delk1 – thank you for pointing that out, the biggest upset in boxing was a scam. Go watch the replay and count yourselves, biggest lot hogwash ever.

IDK. But IF he faces Floyd he’ll be SPANKED.

who is ruslan provodican fighting next?

@ Gold, Good post

@ Hecdog: What is wrong with you? Buster Douglas won because the referee screwed up. Dougalas should have been counted out.

Mayweather UD or TKO 10 th round.

Guerrero pressure WILL win IF Guerrero hits Floyd’s LEFT rib cage when Floyd’s on the ropes.

Posted March 26, 2013 3:10 pm

Mayweather will have to fight Guerrero. He won’t be able to keep him away with the jab for long.

Guerrero by 1st round knock out

Posted March 26, 2013 2:36 pm

mma fighter

guerrero has to fight floyd different than other fighters. cotto and oscar were able to pressure him and it worked .he is going to eat punches doing it.i think that why floyd would nerver fight antiono m, a few years ago. because of margreito pressure and he hits like atruck with out casts on his hands. floyd likes to have control.if guerrero stands in front of him its going to be along nite. i guess we will find out

pressure only works by throwing hard punches while avoiding counters and being tied up, easier said than done

NO, he’s not smarter than Floyd — but anyone can be outsmarted on a given day by somebody really clever. Floyd can’t afford to take this fight for granted because Robert wants this, and will move Heaven and Earth to win. If he loses he’s still rich — but if he WINS he’s the toast of the Earth. He will be 200% prepared because a win means so much more to him than it does Floyd … With Floyd it’s expected, and no big deal.

Posted March 26, 2013 12:05 pm

We don’t know how Floyd will do , take a look at his last 3 fights Mosley off roids he can’t fight wash up even a Contender c level fighter made him look old, Cotto wash up never the same after the Margarito beating but was able to win 5 rounds against Floyd. Ortiz hype job who was Ko’d by Madina and has an IQ of a quarter

Posted March 26, 2013 12:04 pm

Floyd WANTS Guerrero to think he’s BIGGER and STRONGER- lately that’s all you’re HEARING from Guerrero. Floyd wants Guerrero to think his legs are gone, that he can BULLY him around. Listening to Guerrero TALK he thinks Floyd is JUST like Berto!! That’s a BIG mistake because Berto and Mayweather are TOTALLY different fighters. Guerrero is beginning to SOUND OVERCONFIDENT and he may just be UNDERESTIMATING Mayweather.

Posted March 26, 2013 12:00 pm

So what you’re SAYING is Guerrero is SMARTER than Floyd in the RING?? Guerrero is going to string Floyd along until he can get the KO?? If that was TRUE about Guerrero than he would’ve fought the BEST at featherweight, superfeather and lightweight, and we all KNOW Guerrero NEVER fogut and elite fighter in any of those weight classes. He beat an HBO hypejob (Berto), and a European fighter who never fought anyone (Aydin) but almost KO’d Guerrero! But now he’s going to outthink Floyd??

Posted March 26, 2013 11:55 am

Guerrero is a psychologist too… Guerrero may fight a very defensive stinker of a fight through the 1st round, or maybe for 2 or 3 rounds, and try to make it look like Floyd is the guy not fighting. He’ll try to get into Floyd’s head and get him to engage like Floyd did in the 3rd round of the Mosley fight. Robert always has something new up his sleeve you don’t expect—whether its thumb jabs or something else. He’s not expecting to outbox Floyd so he may not care if he’s deducted a point or 2. If you’re losing on points and you stop your opponent, you still win if they don’t go to the cards. Robert will go for it early or late because he sees this fight as the most important moment of his life—beating the GOAT—so Floyd has to keep an eye on this sinister character throughout … He’s one determined man, and more clever than people think.

Posted March 26, 2013 11:48 am

yeah he likes to get under a hot headed opponents skin so they come out swinging at him he’s done countless times before, he does whatever it takes to win the psychological battle before a single punch has been thrown.

Posted March 26, 2013 11:25 am

Guerrero’s aggression is going to be his undoing and watch his “volume” DROP once FMJ starts operating like a surgeon in there… Floyd LOVES guys to get reckless, Berto is a talented fighter but he also went thru an indentity crisis that night against Guerrero trying to use the Philly Shell which NO ONE had seen from professionally…. Its STILL May Day and I would not be surprised to see a swollen and battered Guerrero pulled out in the 9th or 10th round…

Posted March 26, 2013 10:32 am

te tumbo

Guerrero never had a reputation for being a “dirty” fighter until Berto and that was primarily due to Berto’s inability to keep Guerrero off of him with his fists instead of his armpits, which firmly locked on to Guerrero’s right-hand whenever it came into range. this resulted in a masterful adaptation by Guerrero who then proceeded to teach Berto what happens when you insist on grabbing a tiger by the tail: you get MAULED. none of this will be enough to overcome #1 P4P Floyd but it was enough to bedevil and topple a strong but one-dimensional Berto, Fair-and-Square.

Tark, just read your post. I’m thinking the same thing.

Guerrero’s aggressive style will work against him fighting Floyd. Even on the inside. Floyd is rougher and will use his forearms… and catch Robert as he steps back to try and get punching room. From the outside Floyd will be near impossible to hit and will make Robert eat leather as he comes in all night. I expect the lowest punch output from Guerrero … possibly in his entire career. I also think Robert will lose a point. He won’t like Floyd getting away using his forearm and holding Robert’s head down, etc. and I think he’ll get too rough and try to get even. I don’t think Guerrero will try and head butt him like Ortiz did… but he’ll get rough enough and be deducted a point… and the fight will then follow the usual M.O. of Floyd opponents… Guerrero will have lost plenty of rounds… that with the point deduction he’ll need to knock Floyd down to regain ground… (which won’t happen) which will mean he’ll need to knock Floyd out… (which won’t happen)… so… Floyd wins by TKO in my prediction. I think he’s going to cut Robert bad and the doctor will stop it… possibly like the Yordan fight. Only this time the fight will go deeper and it’ll be a loss for the Ghost… and he’ll take a beating worse than the Yordan fight. We’ll see… should be interesting to watch though.

I’ve been watching boxing for ove 30yrs and the style that Mayweather brings is the most balanced style I’ve seen a good defense with a controlled offense/attack. Mayweather’s stats are most probably the best ever. Some of us have no idea how difficult it is to fight this dude, imagine the ability to keep opponents attack on single digits per round while his accuracy ranges between 50 – 60% per round. His best asset is his ring IQ, he can sit on the ropes and still outpunch an opponent, his good coming forward or moving backwards, he has plan A, B & C if required. Only father time can beat Floyd as his totally dedicated to his craft and leaves nothing to chance. It’s gonna take a lot more than just skill to beat Floyd.

Posted March 26, 2013 9:09 am

Castillo was the closest to beating him and that was with educated relentless pressure but he adjusted and won comfortably next time, Mayweather can beat any style, its what style would give him the most problems should be the discussion.

Posted March 26, 2013 6:55 am

I think if any style will beat him its the one Guerrero brings, wither it will or not remains to be seen.

Posted March 26, 2013 6:53 am

I predict Guerrero will be deducted 2 or 3 points before he loses… He’s not going to try to foul out like Victor Ortiz did, but he’s going to try to hurt Floyd one way or another — cut him, bung up his eyes, hit him low, whatever, because he wants to win so bad… He will not get away with any of the stuff Lou Moret let him get away with in the Berto fight … and he will take a horrific beating because he’s not the best defender.

Posted March 26, 2013 2:14 am

hecdog-LMFAO. You must be Robert Guerrero himself. GOOD way to not realize its over till its over. I APPLAUD you on that but Mayweather will WIN by CLEAR UD or Jaw Dropping stoppage.

Posted March 26, 2013 12:33 am

I dont know, maybe Guerrero might surprise everyone, the only other real pressure fighter Floyd has fought in years was Hatton and I think Guerrero can make adjustments where as Hatton couldnt, he also knows, as we saw in the Berto fight, how to box dirty, but given what we know about Floyd i just dont think this will be enough which is why Floyd chose him…

Posted March 25, 2013 10:36 pm

Gold – Wow, thats is one heck of a psychological break down on Guerrero, next time I need to put someone in their place can I hire you…lol

Posted March 25, 2013 10:17 pm

Robert Guerrero will win this fight. He knows how to make adjustments, and offset his opponents timing, which Mayweather relies on 100%. The fight will be somewhat like Duran Leonard #1. Mayweather has taken too much time off, and he has many distractions in his boxing career and his personal life. His verbal attack was a bit out of character even for Floyd. He usually takes a few promotional get togethers for Floyd to begin his verbal attack, but he knows this fight is going to be different. Guerrero isn’t going to sit there and give Floyd distance. He will be in great condition and force the action in perfect range not to get countered. He can also take a punch, and his mental strength will be stronger as was Buster Douglass when his father died and he went into the Tyson fight with an emotional charge and would not accept defeat. Guerrero will do the same as his motivation is his wife. No one gives him a chance, but come fight night, you will be shocked at what and how Guerrero defeats Mayweather. Forget Berto and all previous fights for these guys. This fight is totally different. Thsi is Guerrero’s time to win and Floyd time to lose.. A new champion will be crowned. A man of God overcomes evil.

Posted March 25, 2013 8:42 pm

So who has Guerrero beat? A plodding, stupid-ass Berto. Anybody else of note? Guerrero is a hype job for another Mayweather PPV date. The only chance this has of being a contest is if he gets the Berto ref!

Posted March 25, 2013 8:15 pm

…..I saw the Guerrero/Berto fight last night for the 1st time and I couldnt believe how the referee allowed that MMA style of fight. With ALL Guerreros religious talk I thought I wouldve been endeared to a fighter showing “self-control,” in an attempt to be “clean” for the sake of his religion and what he supposedly represents. In his VERSION of his RELIGIOUS beliefs he fought like a THUG trying to get in the head of Berto….grabbing while hitting, ramming his head, hitting after the bell, etc. He believes he’s this GREAT example of inspiration because his wife has overcome cancer (God Bless her!!); as though no one else has ever “kicked” it with a more humble response and adoration (God makes it “rain on the just and unjust”), and because he’s so proud of his ring accomplishments. His cultification is in deifying his personal issues and opinions. He’s oozing the same crap he self righteously wants to pin on Mayweather! In his spiritual ignorance he sees himself justified in ALL that he proclaims and does…..being fed & nurtured by his personal lusts and ambitions…..dude needs a wake up call……he’s giving a perverted example in his claiming to know God!

Posted March 25, 2013 6:41 pm

Berto and Floyd have little in common. Berto isn’t as balanced and too often over commits to the big shot leaving himself wide open for counters. Floyd will be backing up and countering. As mentioned before, Floyd could get old overnight but I doubt it. Have a feeling this one will turn ugly.

Posted March 25, 2013 5:51 pm

This author says, “Guerrero was helped immensely by Berto’s decision to fight with his back against the ropes.” … Maybe the author didn’t notice, but Guerrero repeatedly grabbed Berto and BULLED him against the ropes like it was a steer wrestling contest, and held him there with his hands, shoulders, head, and forearms. What helped Guerrero immensely was Lou Moret’s refereeing—or lack of refereeing—and not calling any of the 100 or so fouls committed … Guerrero seemed to KNOW Moret wasn’t going to call ANY fouls. Why else would Robert throw 20 punches after the final bell, while it was clanging like a 5-alarm fire??? Not a chance of being point deducted or DQ’d.

Posted March 25, 2013 5:46 pm

Mayweather will be too much for Guerrero who’s new at the weight. This article is on target. Berto fought a stupid fight and paid the price. These posters who say that Guerrero will get KTFO don’t know anything. Floyd doesn’t knock guys out if they ain’t trying to kiss him with their hands down. This fight goes the distance and Floyd wins it at the end. Guerrero is one of the stiffest tests in Floyd’s career but he ain’t no Martinez or Golovkin. He’s hand picked and he’ll lose.

Posted March 25, 2013 5:35 pm

Mike J

The last sentence of this article is what I agree with the most, that at Mayweather’s age, he MAY not be equipped to deal with such aggression by Guerrero. The problem with this is that Guerrero is taking a risk with this gameplan, even against a past-his-prime Mayweather. We’ve seen Mayweather in pressure situations before (i.e. Hatton and DLH), and what he does better than anyone is fight effectively with his back to the ropes. AND in both those fights, HE ended up being the aggressor as the fights wore on. Most trainers are telling their fighters to stay OFF the ropes, but Mayweather against the ropes is just as effective as Mayweather in the middle of the ring. Cotto had Mayweather against the ropes alot in his last fight, and he was still winning those battles on the inside. If Guerrero can keep that pressure on Mayweather for 12 rounds, he has a great chance to win, but once Guerrero starts backing up, its going to be curtains like the other 43.

Posted March 25, 2013 5:16 pm

it’s easy to throw a high volume of punches when your opponent just stands right in front of you. That’s not how Mayweather fights. Good article though, I had the same thought.

Posted March 25, 2013 4:10 pm

Guerrero’s inferior skill set offers him no chance of being competitive against Mayweather. He will be beaten from pillar to post and KTFO!

Posted March 25, 2013 3:38 pm

Low Blow

Joel -MTL,

I was thinking the same thing regarding Floyd’s punch volume in the Cotto fight. I don’t think he can get away as easily using his legs anymore so he is going to have to start throwing more to keep the guys away. It might make for more exciting fights from him (even though i’ve always enjoyed watching him at work).

Posted March 25, 2013 3:35 pm

Low Blow

Firstly, Berto was hurt mostly by poor refereeing as Guerrero got away with murder in the first half of the fight. He was head butting and holding the back of the head without penalties.

Secondly, Guerrero doesn’t have great power or speed so I don’t know how he will hurt Mayweather. It doesn’t even matter if Floyd gets hit, which he barely will, as it won’t hurt him. Guerrero reminds me of a dirtier, but less talented Joe Calazaghe (spelling?).

Posted March 25, 2013 3:30 pm

Jeff Sorby…..reasonable evaluation! Guerrero throws non-stop, and I’m sure he’s thinking that he can outmuscle, out point and wear down the older conservative – albeit accurate punching of Floyd. I think Guerrero will make the mistake of underestimating him due to his deluded inspirational take on Christianity. He wants to do a “Tarver on Roy Jr.” scenario with Holyfields outlook, that he had during the Tyson fights. Guerrero seems arrogantly convinced he’s the better man! All I can say is, he’s never fought a guy like Floyd before and he should be cognizant of what will be in front of him on fight night. Not saying he cant win, just saying, he’s to complacent and dismissive concerning Floyd, an attitude which will work against him.

Posted March 25, 2013 3:08 pm

Guerrero goes out of a rather obscure background. Who is this guy? This sport should have its name changed to THE HYPE GAME! Pick an opponent, hype him up, create some controversy, good guy vs thug wannabe and wallha!! The fight gets made! Wow, is this what boxing has come to? This sucks! Does this Guerrero guy have what it takes to be in there with a Fraud type fighter? NO! Will G uerrero win? NO! Should p eople pay money for PPV crap like this? NO! Wake up people!

Posted March 25, 2013 3:06 pm

Berto has horrible legs & doesn’t move his head, the oppisite of Floyd. I don’t think the ghost will win more than 2 rounds.

Posted March 25, 2013 3:02 pm

Joel – MTL

It’s funny that this writer says Mayweather doesn’t have a high punch volume at his age … he threw 687 punches against Cotto. When’s the last time he’s thrown anywhere close to that many punches?! And the reason is because Cotto was effectively pressuring him, so he had to throw constantly to keep him off (which also shows his stamina is still top nitch, cause he didn’t get tired).

Posted March 25, 2013 2:29 pm

Don’t worry Guerrero will try to pressure and throw a bunch of punches, however that will not work. He will not be punching that much, because if he does, he will be Knocked OUT!. Fighters don’t throw a lot of punches at Mayweather because of his countering ablility. That why you say most of his fights are boring.

The only way the high pressure will hurt FM is if he suddenly turns very old. His style is made for high pressure and hard punchers. Yes, FM has been tagged a few times over the years, but they were from fast, accurate punches, not high volume punching. Guys that throw a lot of punches leave them selves open for counters, which always works for FM. That’s what always made the FM MP fight intriguing. MP is high volume, but he’s fast, pretty accurate, powerful, and has incredible footwork. Only a high pressure style like that will give FM problems.
