Holmes was 38 you dummy… And hadn’t fought in 2 years… He lasted a lot longer than Tyson and didn’t get stopped by Holyfield like Tyson did.

Funny thing… Vitali made his comeback at 37 years of age, and after not fighting for 4 years, and beat the Heavyweight Champion, Sam Peter, 30-1, in his 1st fight back.

Ali was active and couldn’t beat 197-pound tyro Leon Stinks, 6-0-1… Pathetic.

Sred… 36 is NOT that old… Wladimir is 36… Floyd is 36… Vitali made a super successful comeback at 37… Holmes beat Ray Mercer at 43… Sergio Martinez is 38… Juan Manuel Marquez got his greatest victory at 39… Vitali is 41… The idea that Ali should be excused for his loss to Leon Stnks at 36 is ludicrous… Ali got hit too much and got whipped by little guys like Joes Frazier who was 5’11 X 205, when Ali was only 29… You give Vitali hell for fighting a guy 6’2″ X 216, who had a 44-1 record … and say the guy needed a latter to reach VK. But that’s just your miserable bias.

Typo=36 is getting OLD in sports especially boxing

Posted January 10, 2013 12:42 pm

Fighters become GREAT by FIGHTING pretending that the best day of their career is the ONLY day they are relevant is DUMB, Floyd is 36 years old next month, Cotto got to be Cotto by fighting the best along the way he absorbed some losses, Hatton was UNDEFEATED and Corrales was a monster at the weight and expected to be able to get to Mayweather who NO ONE thought was going to knock him down 5 times, win EVERY second of the fight and end up stopping him…ODH was the Champ at 154 Mayweather came up and faced a 6 weight Champion and got the win, if you watch the bout you will see that Floyd respected ODH’s ability to hurt him and fight, early in the bout Oscar was fending off Floyds faster hands WELL that was not a bar fight (Alvarez/Rios) you had 2 World Champions who eventually would win titles in 11 weight classes between them it was boring but the level of talent HIGH…. Floyd Mayweather is the TRUTH!!

Tark is fundamentally a dishonest poster when it comes to Ali he goes nuts… Larry Holmes gets 00000000000000 credit for beating Ali the man was a corpse, EVERYONE knows it and yet Tark somehow seems thinks that if he keeps posting that Ali was a YOUNG, FRESH fighter that it will somehow stick and upend history…Losing to lessor fighters (Spinks) happens when guys are WASHED UP and the miles had been logged in the fight game… Ali’s GREATNESS was assured and cemented when he took those late career losses.. The ONLY scrub that ever got to Ali was at the END like it was supposed to be UNLIKE Klitschko who got TKOed 3 times in the prime of his career when a man is supposed to be at the PEAK of his powers… In sports 36 is NOT old no one is gonna give you a 7 year contract at that age and most won’t give 5…..No shame losing to Larry Holmes who was a YOUNG streaking boxer and future ATG HW…

Posted January 10, 2013 12:22 pm

Ali fought Liston in 1964… NOT 1963… Ali fought Spinks less than 14 years later when he was only 36—and lost to a guy with only 6 wins.. Holmes was a top ranked heavyweight and Spinks was unranked.. Holmes whipped Ray Mercer when he was 43, fought Evander Holyfield when he was 43, and fought Oliver McCall when he was 45 … He wasn’t ducking anybody.

Posted January 10, 2013 3:08 am

Also WHEN you fight somebody counts… Ali was Heavyweight Champion and Larry Holmes was the best heavyweight, but Ali fought Leon Spinks.. People always say, “Ali DID fight Holmes.” … Yeah, he fought him. He fought him when Ali had no title to lose, needed money badly, and Holmes had been Heavyweight Champion for over 2 years and 8 title fights.. The fight didn’t mean a damned thing. Not to either fighter because Ali was 38 years old.. It was a no gain fight for Holmes – and a no risk fight for Ali.. As far as prestige and legacy are concerned.

Robinson had no wins at light heavyweight… Robbie had no wins above middleweight… SRR started at lightweight NOT jr lightweight like you claim, and he quickly grew into a welterweight.. He won titles in 2 weight classes.. Duran lost at every weight he fought.. He was beaten by guys like Kirland Laing and Robbie Sims.. Hagler lost to a welterweight coming off a 3-year-layoff.. Leonard lost to two lightweights: Duran and Camacho.. Hearns was knocked out 3 times in his 20’s—and Iran Barkley beat him twice.. Robinson ducked Archie Moore and Charlie Burley.. Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, and Duran all ducked Mike McCallum.

Posted January 10, 2013 12:44 am

Prime great fighters Floyd has beaten so far…

Diego Corrales was 33-0 and about 24 years old.. Jose Luis Castillo was about 26.. Zab Judah was about 29 or so.. Ricky Hatton was 43-0 and about 29 years old.. Oscar De La Hoya was coming off a spectacular KO over Ricardo Mayorga — Oscar was only 34 which is not old, and he said before the fight he was better than ever.. Miguel Cotto was a 3-Division World Champion and and 4 years younger than Floyd at 31.

Floyd will be 36 when he faces a much younger Guerrero.. What do you want?

Fake Greatness

Roberto Duran was a former bantamweight who defeated middleweights Redmond . Its not new. He fought Hagler who was far above anything Manny has faced.Ray Robinson started at what is now jr lightweight and ended up fighting for the light heavyweight championship of the world . Mickey Walker aka the Toy Bulldog started at lightweight and ended up fighting Max Schmeling. Georges Carpentier had his first fight as a flyweight at 14 and ended up fighting Dempsey and kayoing MANY heavyweights. You people are lightweights . No idea about real boxing history.

Fake Greatness

And dont say fat Marquez fighting a roided Floyd who cheated at the scales was some kind of master performance . It wasnt ….

Posted January 9, 2013 10:46 pm

Fake Greatness

Idiots like SRedmond dont realise that a fighters ABSOLUTE prime is for 2 mebbe 3 fights max . Cotto was in his prime around 2007 at the latest . That is a full 6 years ago LMAO . His best weight was 140 now he is at 154 . Hes not completely shot but he is WELL past his best . Even at his best he struggled with a 36 year old Shane Mosely , Paulie Malinaggi and Lovemore NDou also gave Cott very hard fights. What do you think say a prime Duran , Leonard or Hearns would do to a 36 year old Mosely or NDou ?

Maywetaher is a fraud as well. Name one GREAT PRIME fighter Floyd has fought. There arent any . Mayweathers people are geniuses , they have sold an unbeaten record that is based on journeymen , has beens and stylistically favourable types. Floyd has avoided technical boxers like the plague . Name one good technician except for the elderly Cotto that Floyd has fought. Its no surprise that even an past it Cotto troubled Mayweather as he has a good jab and decent footwork.

The bar has been lowered to ridiculous levels nowadays . Great means someone who fought em all , beat most and came through the fire tested but still there. Doesnt apply to Floyd. He NEVER dominated ANY division. Cheery picking his way to a fight with old man Oscar who gave him fits solely because he still had the remnants of a great jab.

Floyd isnt a top ten great at lightweight , welterweight or jr middleweight. He is a fraud . That is all ….

Ah so then you really don’t know anything about boxing. Thanks for letting me know that so I can ignore any dumb comment you post

Who’s coming in at 170?! Damn, Pee, where do you come up wit dis stuff?

Posted January 9, 2013 8:27 pm

160 is still a lot of weight to go up against especailly when the other guy is going to be around 170 come fight night and Floyd will still only be between 147 and 150. If they both weighed the same, yes Floyd all day but Floyd is not a power puncher and that can affect him fighting someone that much more bigger to them. Plus in clinches he would be pushed around. I really don’t think Floyd could do what he did to Baldomire or Corrales any more. He has to stay and fight more often then box

Posted January 9, 2013 7:45 pm

Fight Aficionado

So what? We all know Floyd’s itching to bank another $20M in an easy win over Guerrero.

Posted January 9, 2013 6:56 pm

This post is simply laughable…At best!! Fraud is what’s killing boxing. He make’s a mockery of the sport yet morons still support him. BOYCOTT FRAUDS PPV EVENTS!!!

Posted January 9, 2013 6:27 pm

Boxing fanatic are you talking about those steroid test that Mayweather failed but Oscar had to protect his cash cow and swept those test under the rug ?

Posted January 9, 2013 6:17 pm

Your right Pugfan that’s why I think Guerrero will pull the upset

Posted January 9, 2013 6:14 pm

Guerrero knows Floyd is no longer in his prime. that is why Robert wants this fight so bad. he feels Floyd is there for the taking. that + a big pay day.

Posted January 9, 2013 5:37 pm

te tumbo, there is no way Floyd is still in his prime. you had better go back and watch more of his bouts if you believe that.

Posted January 9, 2013 5:34 pm

the greatest…… i’m a floyd fan aswell but the greatest p4p of all time?????? com on man. floyd isn’t even the best defensive fighter ever(pernell, gerb), nor the smartest fighter(bhop, arguello) nor the most exciting fighter(take ur pick from lots). floyd is a master boxer and a showman but lets leave it at top p4p of the last 5 years. srl, duran, pryer, sweet pea all would have beaten floyd, way more convincing then castillo did. peace

Posted January 9, 2013 3:46 pm

Cotto is NOT a shot fighter this has been one of the BIGGEST myths out there… Miguel Cotto has fought the MOST aggressive schedule of ANY WW fighter over the past 7 years.. Clottey, Pacquiao, Mayweather (154) Shane Mosley, Margarito and a decent version of Judah… Austin Trout is a BIG Jr MW who ALOT of people would have avoided and has proved to be better than any of us thought….Cotto is a throwback fighter who took on the best and 2 of his losses were to ATG’s….The effort he produced against Mayweather would have likely been enough against ANY WW in the world or Jr MW not named Trout or maybe Canelo…..Losing to the best in the biz does NOT make you shot, it means you are a cut below…

Posted January 9, 2013 2:48 pm

Now thats the truth!

Posted January 9, 2013 1:35 pm

Pacquiao was NOT exposed by Marquez and there is not a single former flyweight who was able to comeup and bash World Class fighters at WW the way Pac Man did… How can you “be exposed” by a guy you had 4 fights with which ended in 2 wins and a draw on your ledger? That is called Monday Morning Quarterbacking and by that logic the SECOND a guy loses bad he has been exposed… If Floyd gets dumped in a a few fights his detractors will say the same…Its major disrespect to his opponents to label EVERYONE that Pac fought as meatballs… The only JOKE bout he booked was against Mosley who had nothing left… How can you penalize a guy for being one of the FASTEST fighters in the sport? By that measure Floyd is only valid against guys as quick as he was in his prime etc? Both FMJ and Pac are GREAT fighters though one mans future hangs in the balance and the other is still on top.

Posted January 9, 2013 1:33 pm

Floyd fights people age…hes cherry picking, he fights younger fighters he’s also cherry picking. Now he has to go to 160 so u can see if thats to far right? So u can claim what a fraud he is lol. He clearly has trouble at 154 and belongs at 147. Oswald let me explain what a coward really is. somebody hiding behind a keyboard on an internet forum. Tell ya what 213 high st. Mick the Marmalizer

PBF vs Guerrero + Canelo/Trout on the same bill would be a great money spinner & set the scene for the 2 winners to contest each other @ 154Lb to decide once & for all who’s 100% the #1 light-middleweight in the World. This card should be screened in cinema’s in the UK.

Peek-I’m sure Mayweather will fight bigger guys, he already has. Remember what weight Floyd started at? ODH taller and more weight, Mosley the same. Baldimer bigger in weight as was Cotto. I’m sure Mayweather will take on Alvarez and Martinez b4 he is through. I think he will school both. Only chance of s lose is at 160 and I can’t c that happening seeing how Sergio said he could get 2 154 easy. Floyd won’t 4get he said that

Posted January 9, 2013 5:13 am

PEEJ-Floyd doesn’t have to come in at 154 OR 160. He didnt come in at 154 vs Oscar OR Cotto. He just needs to come in at his BEST weight and Box….Did Martinez come in at 180 to try to match Chavez Jr.?? No. He came in at a comfortable weight and let SKILLS rule the Day…and thats all that Floyd has to do. He already knows this. He’s done it plenty times before. Floyd was under the weather in his last Fight and actually lost 3 or 4 pounds after the weigh in. He STILL won the fight based on SKILLS as Cotto won the LEAST amount of rounds that he EVER has in a 12 round Fight.

Posted January 9, 2013 12:48 am

PEEJ- Let me assist you with my Great EYES for Boxing. I’ve studied Boxing backwards and forwards and I’ve discovered that there is a 20 lb range where SIZE doesn’t overcome Superior SKILL. IF Donaire were the BEST in Boxing he would be able to beat anyone from 102-142…so Martinez coming in over 142 doesn’t qualify as a viable Fight for Donaire.

Posted January 9, 2013 12:39 am

te tumbo

Berto’s got a lot of heart and grit but once Ortiz and Guerrero got him in trouble early, Berto was completely unable to impose size, skills, or will to turn the tide in his favor. not even v. a presumably smaller welter and former feather moving up in weight to face and hurt(?!?) Berto on his own turf. Berto’s best hope to regain relevance and redeem his dirty test is to continue targeting presumably smaller fighters with prominent Names until he finally finds one he can beat. it’s the matchmaking strategy that got Berto in this predicament in the first place but what’s a declining puncher to do?

Posted January 8, 2013 11:45 pm

te tumbo

i would rather watch Guerrero put the final touches on Pacquiao’s* fraudulent career but Manny* will be busy with neurological tests for the time being to determine the status of his remaining marbles. PPV undercard matchups v. Bradley, Maidana, Josesito are intriguing as well but not the paydays or ring-glory Guerrero is seeking at 147lbs. accordingly, he’s earned the shot and will pay the price v. a still-prime Floyd, which isn’t a given. nothing can be taken for granted at this stage of his career. at his age, Mayweather’s legendary speed and reflexes must be evaluated on a fight-by-fight basis. whatever the case, i’m not paying to watch Mayweather v. anybody above 147lbs again. IMO, he’s looked stretched and compromised at 154lbs, where he’s earned his least impressive wins. time to mop-up what’s left of 147lbs and call it an ATG career.

Posted January 8, 2013 11:36 pm

Fighting Words

Guerrero is the wrong fightfor Mayweather coming off a long lay off and fight a left hander. Mayweather have never done will fighting left handed guys, even with a 6 round fighter like Zab Jada Guerrero would just mug Mayweather like he did Berto and if Mayweather don’t KO him, plus Guerrero can take a punch; we must remember that Jr WW Hatton who has a weak chin was doing well before Mayweather KO’ed him late, IMO I think Guerrero will win by UD.

Posted January 8, 2013 11:03 pm

Ray Ray I agree with you. I am just making a point, Martinez is calling out smaller fighters instead of calling out bigger fighters. Everybody is saying Floyd is scared for not fighting or challenging Martinez but yet don’t say anything about Martinez and the comp that he has actually fought. Martinez record is not that great, it is barely good

Posted January 8, 2013 10:43 pm

Ah so if the best fighter was at 122lbs like folks seem to think about Donaire then Donaire needs to fight Martinez? You do realize this is why they have weight classes right? Martinez is to big and cannot make 154. If he could he would of already done it and challenged Canello. As a matter of fact Martinez told James Kirkland that if he wanted to fight him he had to come to 160. Why because he can’t make 154. If Floyd wants to fight at 154 that is fine with me but at 160 that is just to much weight for him.

Posted January 8, 2013 10:41 pm

Posted January 8, 2013 9:55 pm

Fans want the best to take on the biggest, anything less, well sin’t living up to being the best. Mayweather is the most skilled fighter, fighting today, hands down, even at 36. The only thing that will beat him is age, and much bigger skilled fighters. As far as Alvarez and Martinez go, Mayweather has already forgotten more than either of them ever knew about boxing.

Posted January 8, 2013 9:24 pm

PEEJ- The reason he’s not catching flack is because Boxing is a Sport not a Division. Martinez is going after the BEST in the Sport.

Posted January 8, 2013 9:22 pm

PEEJ- The reason he’s not getting flack for not fighting the best in his Division is because Boxing is a Sport not a Division. He’s looking to Fight the BEST in the Sport.

Posted January 8, 2013 9:20 pm

Hecdog- even if Floyd has lost a step and a half he’s to much for Guerrero.

Posted January 8, 2013 9:10 pm

Ray Ray

Peej-have u been drinking? No need 4 Floyd 2 go 2 160pnds also no need 4 Martinez 2 go 2 super middle. There both in the correct weight class ATM. The ghost has earned this shot. If Mayweather can’t fight Marquez who’s no. 2 bhind him than fighting the no.3 makes sence. Floyd 2 win easily 4 me…Than bring on Alvarez than Martinez than retirement and miss Jackson

Posted January 8, 2013 8:46 pm

Umm lets see there is Ward, Froch, Kessler, Dirrell, there are 4 major fights for him at 168. Oh and lets not forget that he has yet to face any major comp in his own weight class. He chased the weakest belt holder in Chavez though I did pick Chavez for the upset because I thought he had improved. But there are other fighters that have called out Martinez and Martinez said that noboyd knew those fighters and that there is no money in it but then he went ahead and fought sub par comp with the exception of Macklin. Who is high B level fighter but that is about it. Why isn’t Martinez getting flack for not fighting the best in his division?

Posted January 8, 2013 8:37 pm

PEEJ-If anyone asked Martinez to move up they’d be asking him to move AWAY from the competition. That’s called being a SISSY. Why wouldn’t you want to SEE the BEST Fight possible??? No one from 127-167 can give Floyd a Better Fight than Martinez..besides Marquez.

Posted January 8, 2013 8:30 pm

Floyd can fill out to 160. Have you ever seen Floyd and how tall he is. He i already filled out. Fight night of the Cotto fight he weighed 147. Come on now, he is as big as he is going to get. Yes he might be able to get to 154 and that is a maybe and still be in good shape and be able to move with out getting exhausted. Floyd is not going to have Martinez come to 154 which he can’t make and fight him there because if he was to win then folks would say Martinez would be weight drained because Martinez would be dead at that weight. Martinez has said this himself, that is why he fought Paul Williams at 157 because he said he has put on to much muscle when he moved up to 160

Posted January 8, 2013 8:13 pm

And no Guerrero should not be down at 140. He just beat Berto at 147 and is the 3rd rated WW behind Mayweather and Marquez….he just shouldn’t be in the Ring with Mayweather.

Posted January 8, 2013 8:11 pm

Floyd has the SKILLS, Boxing IQ, and SPEED advantages in the Fight. Guerrero’s best hope is LUCK.

Posted January 8, 2013 8:09 pm

Don’t know why they have so many divisions in the lighter divisions. Seems like they are only separated by a few pounds at times. Bottom line is Fraud is a grown man and has filled out by now. He could easily make 160 if he wanted to. No one is suggesting that he take on heavy weights! Common sense here thats all! 160 Fraud will never do cause he couldn’t handle the heat. Hopkins waited for years to make heavier weight class blowing opportunities till he FINALLY WENT UP IN WEIGHT. Alittle to late in his career. Fraud ain’t stupid and he does what he’s always done….Play it safe as usual…Never haven taken a chance or moved up… Time to put on the big boy pants Fraud….

Posted January 8, 2013 7:44 pm

Who ever said Floyd moved up 6 weight classes failed math in the ghetto try 130 to 154 is 5 ghetto boy

Posted January 8, 2013 7:25 pm

The Ghost will pull the upset

Posted January 8, 2013 7:23 pm

Didn’t Pac fight that same guy 4 times? Glad Floyd never fought Pac because then there would be folks on here like you saying Floyd fighting a light weight again.

Posted January 8, 2013 7:18 pm

The El Paso Fight Prophet

Floyd fighting a light weight all over again just like he did with marquez.

Posted January 8, 2013 6:55 pm

This is an easy fight for Floyd, too easy. I really have very little interest in seeing this fight at all and no way I will not pay $60 for this

Posted January 8, 2013 6:49 pm

Author, how can you say Mayweather preffers fighting Guerrero over Canelo. If anything, it would be easier to fight Canelo now, when he hasn’t stepped up to elite level competition rather than later. I would suspect Golden Boy is more opposed to the fight at this point than Mayweather is. They’ll both fight on the May card, and then fight at the end of the year.

Posted January 8, 2013 6:34 pm

Floyd does not easily make 154lb. Folks you do realized he weighed in on fight night at 147lb when he fought Cotto at 154. No need to fight Martinez he is too big. Let Martinez try to make a legacy for himself and fight some real contenders at 160 or move up and fight at 168. Everybody wants Floyd to move up and fight Martinez but very few folks are asking for Martinez to move up. Floyd has moved up from 130 to 147 and has even fought twice at 154. He is already strtching when going to 154. Once again you know your a great fighter when people always want you to fight someone bigger than you. Or talk about how someone from the past could of beat him

Posted January 8, 2013 5:58 pm

Floyd has already moved up 6? divisions. You people want him to fight Wladimir next? I watched the 24/7 episodes in the build up to the cotto fight. Did you see the junk he was eating to get his weight up to 151 lbs for the weigh-in? Burgers, chicken, fries, cake , milk shakes. He ate like a pig to keep his weight up. Floyd belongs at welter

Posted January 8, 2013 5:57 pm

Canelo Trout and Mayweather Guerrero on the same card will put Mayweather and Canelo on a collision course.

Posted January 8, 2013 5:35 pm

Mick the Marmalizer

KC: PBF allready holds the WBA title (super) @ 154Lb, so yes, how about S.G.Martinez @ 160?

Posted January 8, 2013 5:18 pm

Maybe its time for Fraud to put on his big-boy pants and move up in weight. I’m sure with his physique that he easily makes 154 if not 160 if he wanted.

Posted January 8, 2013 4:57 pm

Martinez didnt look all that great against Chavez plus there is the issue of weight, If they met at 154lb Floyd would wipe the floor with him he is slow…

Posted January 8, 2013 4:47 pm

I don’t see how Guerroero jumps to the top of the Floyd list simply based on the Berto fight. Guerroero has a long list of tomato can fighters….I hardly think that puts him in line for Mayweather. They did the same thing with an inexperienced Victor Ortiz and Floyd walked away with an easy payday…. Why can’t a Martinez type fighter be lined up with Fraud? Oh, I know, its too dangerous for Fraud to take on real contenders

Posted January 8, 2013 4:36 pm

Good news this & leaves Canelo/Trout open for negotiations. That should be 2 excellent contests to look forward to in 2013. Now let’s see Cleverley/Shumenov & Cloud/Dawson + Donare/Rigo.
