Worse decision in the history of modern boxing. Briggs over Foreman.

you cant blame the k bros, its just the rest of them are a complete joke.

Posted January 12, 2014 3:41 pm

Wlad should challenge foreman for his next opponent………hmmmm no too risky. A rematch with mormeck or pianetta, that’s what the fans want.

Posted January 12, 2014 2:21 pm

Tark, while 7-8 of your names make sense, having Holyfield on the ATG list and not having Ali on it is patently ridiculous. I realize Haye was a joke.

why the interest then Anonymous??for a person to have so much contempt for fighting men you sure have plenty to say!maybe you need another pastime!!

years ago we had hw fights today we have hw wrestling matches.

Posted January 12, 2014 9:32 am

Prime Foreman KO’s everybody on that list, except Ali. Guys that could tie up Foreman and frustrate him are the ones that could beat him. But with a proper ref, nobody beats prime Foreman.

TARK your ATG heavyweight list is LOL. It reads like you smoked a Blunt before posting it.

Posted January 11, 2014 8:28 pm

Its fought not faught. Use spell check.

Posted January 11, 2014 7:29 pm

Foreman was a great matchmaker. The only time foreman faught someone he wasn’t sure if he could beat is if it was for a title. In the case of Moorer I do feel that Foreman felt he could knock him out and turns out he was right. You have to remember in the comeback foreman was slower, but in his prime he was much faster and harder hitting. Foreman looked good padding his record beating a bunch a bums and then everytime he faught any B or A level fighter he had a tough go of it. I think Holyfield and Morrison were only ones Foreman Faught considered A level opposition besides moorer he faught in the comeback and he lost to 2 of them. Foreman would only fight Lennox Lewis to try to win the title but not to defend the title. Foreman wasn’t dumb, so he only faught people he could beat in the comeback unless for a title which is exactly what bernard hopkins has been doing. Foreman was never in the fight against Holyfield, showed every bit of his slowness and age.

This pundit says.., “And if an opponent wasn’t scared, Foreman’s powerful fists and underrated ability at cutting off the ring got the job done.”

George had no ability to cut the ring off… He was slower than slow.

Little, tiny 6’ X 211 Jimmy Young whipped Big George and easily evaded him. Young didn’t even have the speed, versatility, or punching power of a David Haye. Foreman’s win over Moorer was a lottery shot win after being outboxed for 10 rounds—and being outboxed by the inept Tommy Morrison. Moorer was the last KO Foreman every scored. The only stoppage or knockdown he scored in his last 7 fights.

A better ATG list would be 1 Vitali Klitschko… 2 Larry Holmes… 3 Lennox Lewis… 4 Wladimir Klitschko… 5 Jack Johnson… 6 Joe Louis… 7 Evander Holyfield… 8 Mike Tyson… 9 David Haye… 10 Gene Tunney

Vitali was always ahead on points in all of his fights and was never knocked down in his entire career. He only lost twice due to injury and couldn’t get rematches—which Lennox Lewis always managed to get.

Foreman was too slow and hittable to beat any of the above. Anybody who gets outboxed by Tommy Morrison has 3 left feet.

Foreman still looks strong as a bull at 65…Happy Birthday!!!

Posted January 11, 2014 2:07 pm

I’ve always liked Foreman. I liked him even better in the 1970s when he played the role of “the bad guy.” I loved how he was booed during the Toronto 5 Exhibition. The more he was booed, the more arrogant he got. Great theater.

Posted January 11, 2014 1:26 pm

an era of great hw fights unlike the circus shows of today.

Posted January 11, 2014 10:15 am

George Forman is a very special talent. Once he got his mind together he could
beat anybody on that list. He had that great career, and still has all his motor
skills. That’s a testament to what he stood for in his comeback “GOD”. I also
loved him as an commentator. He really is a real HERO, someone to look up to.
To come back after the loss to ALI and do what he did, is better than had he won that night against ALI.

Happy B Day to Big Bad George Foreman. You da man George, you da man.

Posted January 10, 2014 10:04 pm

He’s turned out to be a genuine “nice” guy, with a whole lot of money off of those Foreman Grills!! Back in the day he looked like a “killa” with a vendetta against ALL his opponents….May God Bless him even more on his day and onward…..and could he share some of that wealth in my neck of the woods!? lol

Posted January 10, 2014 7:53 pm

Very good artical. But rankings list sucked!
Jack dempsy was tough as hell but 100 years ago they had zero boxing skillz… Modern boxers and boxers from 70 would crush them. I wouldnt bet on dempsy against ali, tyson, forman or wlad.
Also rocky … Who had he fought??

My best memory of George was when he won that title in the 90s over Moorer. I got him at +350, a nice payday but it should’ve been bigger given Moorer was still undefeated at the time.

Posted January 10, 2014 6:00 pm

Bo Bo Olson

Schultz beat him. That Lyle fight was a hell of a fight as was the Lyle -Ali fight. In heavy one punch can do it…like vs Moore. George and Ali were very big for the time…now average in height.

Posted January 10, 2014 5:59 pm

mr gav

65? Might be D Wilder’s next opponent!!

Posted January 10, 2014 5:58 pm

Cracking bloke.

Posted January 10, 2014 5:44 pm

George you old b@st@rd. Always liked Foreman especially his demeanour during his comeback. Angry young man turned into a humble, gentle giant….. well as long as you weren’t standing opposite him inside the square circle.
