Froch stomped Bute Ward would have beat Bute worse. Ward B-Hop is good fight not great tune up for Ward to make sure shoulder is in good shape. Plus he does not like B-Hop.

Posted November 9, 2013 9:04 pm

If ward and hopkins fight then it would be the worst fight in boxing history .

Posted November 9, 2013 6:39 pm

Big Al

Ward doesn’t back down from fights, right? First thing he did after beating Froch was step up to the mic and turn down the Bute fight. What a lop!

Posted November 9, 2013 6:29 pm

Kovalev would take B-Hop, Stevenson, and Ward one after the other.. The fights would happen if the fans demanded them.. The fans watch whatever cherry picked fights well connected promoters and orgs want to shove down their throats … so they can keep the money in-house.

ward would utterly destroy hopkins. Dawson has hopkins card odds are this would be brutal destruction and the nation of islamists like shortbusmond would hate it. This fight does nothing to further sredmonds racial agenda so he should be opposing it. I havent read down the thread to see but I’m sure he opposes it

As far as it pertains to ths fight the skill level on display would be legendary. I would jack off while watching this, and send the jizz to Ward with a lovenote.

BoxRetard would like to see this fight because it’ll be slow paced enough he can jerk off repeatedly in his Underoos. To everyone else it’s an awful matchup that would be as exciting as Bhop vs Jones was. No ambien needed for the world’s insomniacs.

Posted November 8, 2013 6:37 pm

A prime Hopkins would beat Ward IMO. Ward would beat any European fight ever in that weight class.

I actually think this is a interesting fight.

Posted November 8, 2013 3:45 pm

Swedish Boxing Fan

Andre Ward challange boxing legend and the defending world light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins? – Well then I truly hope that Andre Ward jumps up a weight clas to fight Hopkins for his title and not reverse as Ward was a light heavyweight fighter in his amateure days and won Olympic gold back in 2004 as a light heavyweight fighter. Ward can do that without any problems for him in the ring BUT Hopkins, 48 years old would just get the downside if he jumped down to SM class. This fight would be a great one if Hopkins was a few years younger and I’m sure he would give Ward a tough fight even now BUT it just feels like a bad idea in the end with Ward winning a close UD or an MD contest. Ward is in my book the best boxer in the world now and is in his prime, just sad that he have been dragging with ijuries thyat have taken valuble ring time from him.

Posted November 8, 2013 3:42 pm

boxing barlow

Ward is a strange guy in boxing terms. Ive never seen anyone as exceptionally gifted and fundamentally sound, yet he’s be so low down my list in terms of must see fighters. There is nothing which motivates me to watch his next fight live and I wouldn’t even be surprised if I dont watch him at all until he fights a fighter who I am interested in. Sas stuff.

Posted November 8, 2013 3:28 pm

Rodriguez would need to bring a gun to beat Ward as you can’t beat what you can’t hit.

Posted November 8, 2013 3:02 pm

Good to hear. See what Mr Hopkins say about that since he likes to call out welterweights (Mayweather).

Posted November 8, 2013 3:00 pm

I don’t really like wards style of fighting, and I’m from Oakland. I never have like the mug and smother style. I would give him a good chance to beat Hopkins, Ward wouldhave to be active and accurate. I would buy the PPV because no matter the styles both would come to win. It could be a rough and tumble affair.

Posted November 8, 2013 2:18 pm

Ward Already said yes to Froch, Froch return with a no maybe later. Plain and simple weather you like ward or not Froch don’t want none.

Posted November 8, 2013 2:14 pm

Posted November 8, 2013 11:12 am

ward is as boring as waiting in line at the bank, with that said I think he is invincible. no one can beat that man. no-one

Posted November 8, 2013 11:12 am

Liver Shot

BHop vs Ward is better than BHop vs Mayweather. BHop would look 49 vs either fighter but would be out matched as he was when he fought Joe Calzagie. That was a one way beat down if you all remember. Ward to fast and can bring it for three minutes of every round. Mad respect for Bhop but time to hang em up unless he wants Stevens.

Posted November 8, 2013 10:46 am

@Jonn E. JaGozza : “Ward and Gatti would have done it again and again ”

Apples and oranges, really. Ward and Gatti were always competitive.
Dawson would beat Hopkins 99 times out of 100 (unless Dawson is “faded”) so there’s really no point in beating a dead donkey.

Posted November 8, 2013 9:14 am

Now this is a better match than Hopkins-Mayweather wonder if Hopkins will take it?

Posted November 8, 2013 9:13 am

Jonn E. JaGozza

Now, boxing is going from confusing to simply absurd. This fight doesn’t make any sense. Why should Hopkins get this mega fight when again, he won;t call out the guy who has beaten him 2 times and would again if they ever fought (Dawson). A fight against Ward would prove nothing and Bernard might get seriously hurt in the process. Ward is too good a fighter to fight Hopkins and if Ward wants to make a name for himself in this sport being in the top elite lof the very best, the legends of all legends of this sport, then why isn’t he calling out GGG. Recently i watched again the Gatti/Ward triliogy and its sad that the great fighters don’t want to fight each other but rather fight these “make-believe fighte”… Quite honestly,
I’m disappointed with Ward even thinking of taking this fight and for Hopkins OH, yea I would never expect him to challenge Dawson again, Oh NO, that would take courage and confidence. … Ward and Gatti would have done it again and again … and then again … tha takes balls …. PEACE ..

Posted November 8, 2013 8:58 am

When you become the mandatory it doesn’t matter if the person who has the title is serious bout fighting you. It then goes to purse bid and if he really doesn’t want the fight then he would be stripped of the title. Then that would show if Hopkins was ducking.

Posted November 8, 2013 8:51 am

If the fight ever get made though, Hopkin’s chances are slim to none and slim has just left town.

Posted November 8, 2013 8:36 am

ward v hopkins… now thats gotta guarantee excitement.. not haha be soo funny if hopkins won that.. Headlin: the SOG gets beaten by a 50 year old

Posted November 8, 2013 7:36 am

Hey hopkins, here is ur challenge. And u wont have to cut weight because ward would certainly move up. Whats it going to be hopkins?

Posted November 8, 2013 7:21 am

I love this match up! Will see how well ward will fare against and. ” old” Hopkins …

Posted November 8, 2013 7:01 am

great cure for insomnia.

Posted November 8, 2013 6:36 am

How very typical of Ward; he holds a 168lb belt for close on 3 years and NEVER MENTIONS a potential fight with Hopkins. Then, 2 weeks after Hopkins lists guys he’d like to fight and states categorically that he doesn’t want to fight Ward, Ward comes out with the statement that he’d like to fight Hopkins. These two boring fan-less cheaters would probably clinch for 2 minutes of every round and headbutt for the rest. The only way I’d watch them fight would be if it was one of those matches they used to have in wrestling where the loser has to retire.

Posted November 8, 2013 6:29 am

Wow, great grappling match

Posted November 8, 2013 5:48 am

Ward will fight Hopkins, but i’m sure he’ll want Bernard to move down to 168.BHop can match Ward in the skills department, but he can’t fight for more than 1 minute of a round and his speed is not there. If Ward fought BHop in his prime,i’d watch it and put money on Nard to win.I’d rather see Ward fight Kovalev or Adonis….

Posted November 8, 2013 5:42 am

No one wants to see Ward fight ole ass bhop. Ward should go down 8 lbs and fight at 160 there are big matches there Martinez, Chavez the list goes on.

Posted November 8, 2013 5:38 am

Nobody wants to see these two in the ring period.

Posted November 8, 2013 5:20 am

Mick the Marmalizer

Of course Ward wants Bhop. It’s the only fight out there he can make money out of without leaving the USA!

Posted November 8, 2013 4:01 am

Ward has heard your CRIES and thats why he’s facing UNDEFEATED Rodriguez. Now after Ward SPANKS him I’m sure the crybabies will come up with another excuse.

Posted November 8, 2013 3:24 am

Tim Jackson, 2

Tark, sorry a couple of typos but im sure you get the picture. Ward has a long record of fighters who dont mean much and for all that matter, were already beaten well bdfore ward came along. All this has already been written by many when it comes to ward. Nothing but complaints, ward is boring, ward only fights in Oakland, ward fights weak opposition, ward fouls and holds all night. Ward’s biggest names on his resume is Kessler, awful fight then Dawson who had dracula get to him well before ward. Ward cant KO anyone. Ward is just so overrated ,

Posted November 8, 2013 3:14 am

Tim Jackson, 2

Tark are you kidding me, forget B-Hop.. Adonis is what to be calling out. Ward and that weak 6 tourney dont mean a darn thing and Dawson was so sucked up it looked like dracula got a hold of him when Ward fought him.Adonis knocked out Dawson in one found at Dawson’s healthy weight. Ward needs to tep it up and fight more than once a year.

Posted November 8, 2013 3:10 am

Dan D

All well and good commenting retrospectively. Wasnt Pavlik supposed to ko Hopkins? Wasnt Cloyd too young and strong?

Posted November 8, 2013 2:57 am

Not quite.., Ward has beaten everyone in the super 6 and isn’t interested in Hopkins—because everyone knows he beats BH easily.. After all, Chad Dawson easily had the better of Hopkins and Ward beat Dawson down like he was his daddy.

Now the only really good fighters—besides Edwin Rodriguez who I think will surprise a lot of fans—that Ward can fight right now are outside the division.. If Froch grows a pair Ward will meet him in England, but I don’t think Carl wants any more of AW.

Like I’m saying, the guys who are good are outside Ward’s division. GGG can come up from middleweight in a couple years because he needs to unify that division first.. Kovalev will be waiting at 175 for whenever Ward wants to stop fighting the puffballs in his own division.

Those are 2 guys who can possibly beat Ward.. Those are “someday” fights that may or may not ever happen.. But the bigger problem is Golovkin and Kovalev getting the “champions” in their own divisions to fight. I think they realize they would get murdered.

Posted November 8, 2013 2:21 am

Ward would definitely win by UD.

Posted November 8, 2013 1:37 am

Now there’s something to salivate about, the two most boring fighters hugging for twelve rounds, I can’t wait!!

Posted November 8, 2013 12:17 am

More bias writing. No way do any of those names (maybe JCC Jr) duck or avoid anybody. When will Ward get a passport, prove he is a champion and actually get some decent paydays. It’s not hard to read between the lines and feel the fear Ward has of Kovalev and Stevenson. Why would you mention Hopkins and not the other 2 title holders especially after saying you want to fight your era? This guy becomes a bigger joke every day and while very talented is missing out on really good money overseas.

Posted November 8, 2013 12:16 am

Big Al

Sorry but we’ll never see Ward in a PPV anything. He may be #2P4P when it comes to ability and accomplishments, but I’m guessing he barely cracks the top40 in terms of marketability and drawing power. HBO rejected the first two names he tried to get approved. That’s all you need to know. Meanwhile, Cotto, Hopkins, Golovkin, JCCjr and others are making buku bucks and headlining events with no-namers.

Ward vaguely reminds me of Pernell Whittaker in that he was an olympic hero and widely recognized as one of the best fighters in the sport, but never being able to cash in on it. Never being able to become the American boxing champion with the drawing power and bank account to match.

Things that come to mind when I think Ward: smug, egocentric, overinflated opinion of self, unwilling to travel, turns down big fight opportunities, envious, uptight and just downright unlikeable the more I hear his interviews or read his quotes.

Posted November 8, 2013 12:05 am

Fight Aficionado

Neither Ward nor Goosen think there’s any chance of this happening. It’s become a tendency in boxing to just pretend like you’re wanting to fight names simply to get the public talking about you in big name terms. Ridicuulous anyone even wrote stories about this but then again boxing reporters deliver whatever message promoters want. Fish.

Posted November 7, 2013 11:30 pm

Ward wants to fight easy fights only in his home town with his personal referee, judges and boxing commission. Ward will not fight anywhere except his home town. Stevenson called out Ward, but Ward has refused that fight. Hopkins said he would never fight Stevenson or Kovalev, but Hopkins wants to fight Void………….

Kovalev went into Cleverly’s home town and knocked him out for the title. Kovalev wanted to fight Hopkins, esp. since Kovalev was Hopkins’ mandatory, but no way would Hopkins fight Kovalev. I think Ward wants to fight a flyweight or Christy Martin next………..

Posted November 7, 2013 11:25 pm

this fight would be a terribly boring snoozefest, with each fighter trying to out do each other with dirty fouls, bhop would do what he does most fights and be a spoiler and stink the joint out. ward by 10 rounds to 2. this fight wont happen though, no way does the old con take a fight he knows he will lose

Posted November 7, 2013 11:21 pm

Kovalev was forced to go in a different direction because Cleverly was serious about fighting him and Bernard wasn’t..

Now that he’s a world champion he can bargain on better terms.. But, let’s face it, Bernard doesn’t want to get hammered into the canvas.

Posted November 7, 2013 10:50 pm

I`ll pay them not to fight.

This would be the most headbuttiest clinchfest the world has ever known.

What the hell has Hopkins done recently to make anyone care anyway.

Posted November 7, 2013 10:39 pm

Hopkins isn’t ducking anybody. Kovalev went in a different direction when he was named mandatory bad Adonis has a fight scheduled already

Posted November 7, 2013 10:11 pm

I see Good.., B-Hop is presently ducking Kovalev and Stevenson… He may fight Ward and get his ass kicked — but let’s see him fight the top guys in his own division.. I predict he’ll do that when elephants can flap their ears and fly.. In fact, Stevenson is also ducking SK.

Posted November 7, 2013 9:42 pm

“Edwin is coming for that title.” Well, he should because he’s fighting for it but he has zero chance to get it; Ward is in a different universe than Edwin. Lopsided unanimous decision.

Posted November 7, 2013 9:41 pm

Froch had a chance to remath Ward in England and took the Groves fight instead… That’s just a fact… Froch doesn’t want any more of Ward.

Posted November 7, 2013 7:11 pm

I don’t like this fight… Ward beats the living crap out of Hopkins and I believe Hopkins is well award of that… Hopkins won’t fight Kovalev or Stevenson for the same reason.. He’d get beat to death.

I hear Ward, “I’m much more interested in fighting guys from my generation.” It does him no good to fight Hopkins and anything can happen in a fight..

From a financial standpoint I don’t see it either.. I don’t see as a bigger attraction than Hopkins-Dawson or Hopkins-Pascal. The fight would be a stinker and everyone knows it.

Ward vs Kovalev would be a PPV fight — as would Ward vs Stevenson.

Posted November 7, 2013 7:08 pm

Mick the Marmalizer

Sorry if it offends anyone, but if Ward doesn’t start using his passport then the World will pass him by. Steiglitz in Germany or Froch/Ward in England are where the money is!!

Posted November 7, 2013 7:07 pm

Posted November 7, 2013 6:56 pm

Old School Rules

Hopkins already said after the Cloud fight that he would NEVER fight Ward. And even if it did get made, there’s no way that fight would go PPV. Goosen has lost his mind if he believes that.

Ward has got to drop this idea that because he is top 3 P4P he should just be able to pick 1 or 2 opponents a year and do big PPVs. I’m a huge Andre Ward fan, but he’s simply not that kind of star is not going to be. He needs to stop chasing these fantasy PPV fights he wants with Chavez Jr and Hopkins. Both are garbage fights and easy wins for him.

He needs to follow the Golovkin model and fight 4 times a year against solid opposition instead of chasing the biggest names. Ward should come out in 2014 and fight the Froch-Groves winner, Steiglitz, Anthony Dirrell, and Bute. All very beatable, and not huge fights financially, but all very solid, good fights in which he can make 1-2 Million.
