Anyone who dares come to Oakland will get ROYALLY SPANKED. Mikkel Kessler says that I am CORRECT on that.

Posted June 13, 2013 2:14 am

Ward has no reason to call out anyone but Floyd and he already DID that. Everyone else is LESSER than Ward SO they should be calling HIM out. The same way everyone LESSER than Floyd calls Floyd out. Floyd doesn’t call anyone out. He just takes the Highest rated challenger. Ward already beat the Top 2 contenders to his title and the only person who could have given him a RUN for him money LOST his MIND after Abraham CHEAP shotted him. SO Ward really has no opponents. IF GGG was really serious about facing Ward he’d move UP to 168 and start knocking guys out. The last guy that came to 168 to face Ward got RUN back out of the Division….Kessler and Froch both aspired to be Big in America but Ward RAN them back to Europe. They have no other option but to call him over THERE. That’s called RETREATING…..Andre Ward made Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler RETREAT. At least Froch has reconsidered and SAID he has enough BALLS to re invade America and Fight Ward in Vegas…..He doesn’t have enough balls to come to Oakland though.

What I see and I SEE GOOD. Lara has a glass jaw. Lara is a gifted boxer fast and slick. Angulo never moved his head. NO DEFENCE A SITTING TARGET. Canelo moves his head slips punches. Lara would get EATEN ALIVE.. I think they should give Lara a shot at Canelo.. By all means. I would love to see LARA doing the SOUL TRAIN SHUFFLE. ha ha ha ha Roy Jones a great gifted FAST hand speed boxer. Never got EXPOSED for 10 years. He was that good of a fighter. NOBODY ever hit him FLUSH on the button for 10 years. Guess what it happen, he was EXPOSED… like KHAN fast gifted boxer GLASS JAW to.. Canelo would beat Lara down. Now GGG that guy is a KILLER he the MAN. I dont see WARD calling him out.

Pubic Enema, Liver shots are 100%legal. The kidneys are easily accessed by landing punches on either side of the navel and between the hips. Mike McCallum was one of the best ever at attacking that part of the abdomen. Many of his opponents said they pissed blood for a week after being in the ring for some rounds with him.
I must have been mistaken, I thought I saw Lara go down and get hurt several times…

Lara’s comfort zone is at a distance, once the gap closes, he doesn’t have a lot of answers. But when he’s at that distance he gets his punches off first and does cause damage. But something’s missing, I still think he’s deserving of fighting anyone at 154 win or lose. It’s just if he can’t strengthen his in fighting, he’s going to get beat.

Posted June 10, 2013 8:54 pm

No te tumbo, you are right. Lara definitely ran. In round four I thought he was going to hop over the ropes an run a lap around the building. But he did show true grit and I think, gave a lot more of himself than he has in any other fight to date.

i was unimpressed by Lara in his fights v. Molina and Vanes but i figured he should be able to outclass Angulo IF he finally lived up to the hype. instead, this was the worst performance i’ve seen of Lara. when DLH or Mayweather backpedal with more skill and potency than Lara, it’s called “running” but it’s apparently evidence of boxing skill when Lara does it? i ain’t buying it. Lara is a vulnerable B-level opponent who is middle of the B-pack at best.

If Lara could add short quick inside punches to his game he would be even better. Obviously he should never stand and trade, but he would Benefit by strengthening his inside the pocket skills. Cause right now that’s his main weakness besides falling back with his hands down every now and then.

“It seems as though you want Lara to be something he’s NOT”. on the contrary. i refuse to believe that he’s something he’s not like an imminent threat to Alvarez or even Cotto or Thurman or Martirosyan. by now, every one of these guys should have figured out the recipe for defeating Lara. simply force a fight because one thing that Lara is not is a great fighter. he’s a professional boxer with punching skills but no great ring-warrior. Btw, why do you diligently ignore that Lara has not rematched the likes of Molina or Martirosyan? why do you insist on giving him a pass if he’s so great? you’ve already seen how Mares and Canelo matchmake. why don’t you insist that Lara do the same? i insist it’s because he’s not that kind of great fighter or champion. how can you insist otherwise considering the circumstances? makes no objective boxing sense at all.

Posted June 10, 2013 6:39 pm

te tumbo – It seems as though you want Lara to be something he’s NOT, which is a “fighter” who chooses to “bang it out”, but that is NOT him, it’s like asking Canelo to turn into Perrnell Whitaker, it’s NOT him, just accept it. Lara is a MOVER, that’s how he wins fights, he hits and he moves…he is NOT an inside fighter and he will NOT bang it out, go ask Floyd to do that, he WON’T. I like Cotto, I really do, but I don’t see him having much success stalking Lara, Angulo has MUCH more power than Cotto, I don’t see him landing enough to keep Lara from throwing those left hands to his face.

Posted June 10, 2013 6:28 pm

TITOPA, what i saw was a frightened Lara lucky enough to inflict enough freak-damage to avoid additional KDs before the final bell. however, Angulo looked AWFUL. no zip or form in his punches just unrelenting pressure, which was enough to impose a couple of KDs on a wilting Lara. if Lara is gonna struggle v. this version of Angulo, i don’t think Cotto has anything to worry about. particularly when it comes to exchanging punches v. Lara who will use his skills to avoid a fight not win it. even the 154lb version of Cotto will be able to apply much more effective pressure on Lara to end it within 10. Lara is a B-level fighter at best and he proved it v. Molina, Martirosyan, and Angulo.

Posted June 10, 2013 6:13 pm

te tumbo – At this point in Cotto’s career, he better stay away from Lara…as vulnerable as Lara looked on Saturday, he PROVED he can take a solid shot, go down (2x) and get up to win….I thought after the second knockdown he’d “fade”, but he actually came back stronger, busting up Angulo and halting him with HARD left hands. Cotto is good, but at this point, the kinda shots Lara throws will tear Cotte’s skin apart.

MALACHI, this was supposed to be a replay of Shane v. Margarito. instead, it was as competitive as you’d expect IF Angulo had brought his A-game and Lara wasn’t everything he’s been hyped-up to be. in this case, Angulo brought his B-game and Lara performed precisely as I expected him to perform with a desperate Lara backpedaling away from a stalking Angulo who plodded forward as if in slo-mo, stop-motion animation. don’t be surprised if Cotto insists on cashing-in on Lara’s fading promise. if he couldn’t dominate and almost lost v. this version of Angulo, Cotto should be able to make easy work of Lara and bumrush him outside the 154lb-gate.

Posted June 10, 2013 4:13 pm

Lara got exposed …he can’t handle pressure Canelo will k.o him less than 5 . FACT!

Anyone have an update on Angulo’s condition? Was it a confirmed break of his orbital bone? If so he’s on the shelf again for quite awhile. Bigup to both him and Lara. This was a dangerous crossroads fight for both. Either could’ve lost. This is why these type of fights don’t typically happen, with dudes beating up punching bags on their path to a title shot instead.

Posted June 10, 2013 2:47 pm

Has come out on top….

Posted June 10, 2013 2:20 pm

Again Lara is clearly the best jmw in the world he had come out on top of the top contender. He will beat Canelo too if G.B grows balls and makes the fight.

Posted June 10, 2013 2:19 pm

te tumbo – I thought Angulo would win, he looked to be the stronger of the two….but Lara proved he had better legs, after getting dropped and hurt, TWICE, he still managed to rebound by landing crisp combos to Angulo’s face, busting him up in the process, it’s NO question that Angulo is the better puncher, we ALL knew that, it was also NO question that Lara was the superior boxer, he showed that….Angulo felt he could walk through Lara’s punches to land his own, he was so wrong, the punches may not have “hurt” him, but they certainly “damaged” him, badly!

Posted June 10, 2013 1:07 pm

Fight Aficionado

As I said before, Lara vs Angulo is a great stylistic matchup. I do think Lara’s earned a shot at the top jr middleweights but this win also puts into perspective his last fight vs Vanes Martirosyan. So we’ve got some good contenders at 154 and either of these guys need their shots.

Posted June 10, 2013 11:48 am

te tumbo `co-signed ,angulo wasn’t even fast at all he was just very determined and kept coming at Lara all night, and what i saw was lara admiring his own shots a little too much which left him open to those bombs angulo was launching at will, lara i believe was very accurate but was getting hit way too much himself against the warrior ,i would have loved to see what would have happened if that eye didn’t get helium added into it,i believe lara would have won but may of had to come off the canvas one or two more times in the process…yezzzir!!

Angulo looked terrible on Saturday and he was STILL winning the bout. Lara once again displayed his reluctance to engage in a sustained give-and-take contest. he was noticeably wilting from the 4th-round onward(?!). Angulo looked bombed-out and depleted. whether it’s making weight or that he’s simply shot, he was prime to be dominated by a truly superior boxer and puncher. this should’ve been a replay of Mosley v. Margarito. instead it turned into the “Thrilla of Carson” with Angulo stalking and chasing a desperate Lara backpedaling for his professional life. Btw, whose eager for Lara to face Canelo now? certainly no fans of Lara.

imposta` i’m a brotha chump!!!

Posted June 10, 2013 10:22 am

I take Lara over Canelo, especially if Canelo loses big against Floyd. Lara-Trout would be a boring fight to watch. Cotto-Lara should not happen; Cotto would be too slow and small for Lara. Lara-Kirkland would be a great fight to watch, but first we’ll have to find Kirkland, as he has been missing in action for a while now. Cotto should drop down to 147 where he may still be effective. If he wins, perhaps he can challenge Pac for a rematch. Angulo may have to hang them up just as Margo did because that eye injury may never completely heal. On another thought, he can challenge Margo; I heard he wants to come back. Angulo-Margo would be an eye for an eye kind of fight.

Floyd-Maidana is not a good fight…Maidana will not be able to land one punch against Floyd. Cotto-Maidana may be a better fight; they both will bang and Cotto may have enough left to KO Maidana. Maidana-Bradley can also be a great fight…I think Bradley would win over Maidana. Bradley needs to stay busier though. He can expect to gain respect from boxing fans by staying in obscurity.

Alexander-Joselito may be an interesting fight if Joselito does make the mistake of staying at 147. Alexander is not a big puncher and Lopez has the reach and height to box with him.

Pac should stay away from Marquez, go for the rematch against Bradley and if he wins (and that’s a big IF), challenge Broner. My guess is that by that time Broner would be too fast for Pac.

By the way, I pick Juan Manuel Lopez over Mikey Garcia by late KO this coming Saturday.

Posted June 10, 2013 2:32 am

though Lara when, he sure did got baptized in fire, the slow Angulo sure did damage to him, if Canelo and Lara would fight, i’ll slightly favor Canelo, but Lara can still surprise us.

Posted June 10, 2013 1:07 am

I`d expect Canelo to beat Lara, but stranger things have happened.

Lara has paid his dues, robbed vs Williams, fought Martirosyan, gets off the floor to beat Angulo.

When the smoke clears he`s one of the only JMW’s whose career hasn`t crashed like Kirkland, Williams (RIP) or Perro.

He deserves it more than a flavour of the month like Thurman.

Posted June 10, 2013 1:05 am

It’s quite possible that Canelo does take out Lara but then again which fighter has been in the ring with MORE legit players at 154? Lara has been in with Williams who most same observers believe he beat, Angulo and drew with Vanes due to that cut… Canelo has faced ONE legit 154 pounder in his career that he defeated… I give the edge to Canelo because he’s a harder puncher to my eye, but Lara can fight and he’s got heart it would be an interesting matchup…One that may be in the offing down the road..

Posted June 10, 2013 12:35 am

Lara has good skills but if a slow fighter like Angulo could tag and knock him down I can see Canelo beating him down.

Murderman- I have a feeling they want to make Lara-Cotto. Not a good fight for Cotto, if you ask me, but I don’t think there are good fights for Cotto left period. I agree with you on Lara-Trout, neither of them likes to take the lead. I also don’t think May will ever fight Lara. Canelo means 50 million in the bank for his troubles, Lara just means trouble. If May beats Canelo I would be very surprised to ever see Floyd above 147 again.

@ murderman, of course I got my money on Money if he fought Lara, but I’m not sure how fun that would be to watch. They both need aggressive fighters to bring the best of them. We know Lara is good, but not good enough to sell tickets against Money. Money is a businessman, and he’ll take only on the biggest names out there. I still think he should have left Canelo as his farewell fight.

Posted June 9, 2013 9:47 pm

@ em – lara vs trout may be a lil too much of a technical matchup prob boring fight. Lara vs kirkland? Now u talking! Styles make fight my friend. As for canelo vs money? Boxing lesson by money all day! Just too much skills to pay the bills!

How about Lara vs. Trout? Winner gets Canelo after he gets schooled by Money? Money is not gonna stick around at 154 after the Canelo fight. Obviously, we want Canelo to pull off a miracle, but I think most of us deep down inside are realistic about the outcome. Wouldn’t mind seeing a healthy kirland vs lara either. I think lara waxes him, but kirland always has a punchers chance. If angulo did ok, kirland should do better. He’s got the same or more power than perro and much better skills.

Congrats to Lara, dude is too slick. Not my favorite style, but very effective. I can’t blame him for not wanting to stand in the pocket and bang with Perro. Honestly, Perro did a lot better than I thought he would. I did not think he would win a single round. Until the stoppage, the fight was up for grabs because of the knockdowns. Perro is fun to watch, but I think this is as good as he’ll ever be, no matter which trainer he gets. He’s flat footed, slow, and very limited boxing skills.

The guy drew with Vanes and Angulo almost had him out of there.
Canelo eats him alive.

Tomato Can – Both fights sucked big time.. boring as hell.. Gamboas and Hopkins fight horrible to watch.. I DVR’d it and then after the Chihuahuas got thier Culitos Kicked I watched them actually ended up fast forwarding most of their fights.. they were terrible..

Lara has emerged as the best jmw. Hes the only one fighting the best in the division. Keep away Canelo.

You must of missed Gamboa’s fight last night. It was by far the worse fight I saw last night. But then again I didn’t see the Hopkins/Charro bout.

Contrary to what TARK has posted, Rigo was staggered and dropped vs. Cordoba on the undercard of Pacquiao vs. Margarito. He hit Rigo with a straight right and staggered him…..Rigo is back with his trainer now SO that may not occur again. Rigo would pick Mares apart. He TOO SKILLED and TOO QUICK hand and foot for Mares. Rigo probably stops him with an uppercut.

Lara should have played the lottery luck was on his side. Cubans are boring to watch except for gamboa would like to see him fight one of the top guys. Everyone hates on mares but mares its going to whoop rigo. He has power and speed he has beat so called pure boxers before.

Joseph, I would like to do that, unfortunately, I’ll be unable to catch the show tonight. I normally get a chance to catch your show’s a couple days after the broadcast.

If this fight was fun, Mares vs. Rigo would be like this but at turbo speed. Please make that fight happen someone! BTW, Rigo gets a lot of hate for his fighting style, but I would watch him over Gamboa any day of the week.

“Its a Bird, its a plane, nope. Its CORRECTAMUNDO!!!” LMAO! So you do have a sense of humor Correctamundo! I picked Lara too. But boy did he have to pay for that win.

This is the first time in recent memory i have ever seen Ronnie Shields in the winning corner of a high profile fight. First since the Juan Diaz 135lb days. Welcome back Ronnie.

Hey there, TC!!

Most fighters in the sport, especially the Cubanos and the Brits, have trouble with proficient inside fighters…there’s no shame in that.

With that said, most fighters can’t cut off the ring effectively or fight proficiently inside an opponent’s defense…that’s what makes a warrior like Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. so special.

A lot of fighters will try, but very few are truly proficient at it.

Why don’t you call in to the show tonight and ask him?

Ronnie’s segment begins at 9:30PM EST, and the number is 718-506-1506.

Hello Joseph, if you get the chance ask Shields if he thinks he can do anything about Lara’s inside game. To me that seems to be his only real weakness. But obviously fighting Angulo on the inside would be a poor plan for most anyone. Still though, Molina was able to give Lara problems on the inside, which was the reason that fight was so close… Other than that Lara is one of the best at 154, like I always figured.
