Hatton knows some important technical aspects of Boxing, which he learned from Floyd Mayweather Sr and put to great use against Paulie Malignaggi… That was the only fight of about 50 career fights where I saw Ricky box well, use his jab very nicely… keep his distance, use the ring space, set up counterpunches, and generally show a massive amount of patience, waiting for Paulie to initiate some of the action and messng PM up.. Basically the only fight of his life where he really boxed well throughout the entire fight.

In his last fight Ricky was extremely impatient — and just that one aspect that Floyd Sr spent weeks pounding into him lost Ricky that very winnable fight.

PEEJ has got the beat! Hatton was a game fighter but not a skilled boxer. although i’m sure he can identify and describe the skill-set of a boxer but those aren’t skills he was known for executing in a boxing ring and so what? Rios is no accomplished boxer either. nor is Maidana or Mathysse. just because a fighter doesn’t actually master every skill in the sport doesn’t mean they can’t be considered a great fighter in their time. i was impressed by Hatton’s ability to bulldoze Tszyu while avoiding having his chin exposed for the first KO loss of his career but Tszyu is really the only great opponent that Hatton ever defeated. he lost to the other two and in resounding fashion.

I didnt dislike him but though his popularity serious deluded people, so what that he was beaten by two of the present day P4P fighters, so were a lot people, he looked ridiculous against one by banging his head off the post and lading only 5 punches, and was totally annihilated by the other.

Peej, exactly what is a “Hatron?”

No he did not have boxing skill. Yes I know he was champ at 140. If you read what I said then you would have known that. Just like I said he was only a titlest at 147. But the fact is he didn’t have boxing skills. He was a fighter and he over whelmed his opponents. I never said he couldn’t fight not was I insulting him. He came forward and threw punches. He also took a lot of punches, he was no defensive wiz in there. So the fact is he didn’t have boxing skills he was a fighter.

AB:the tounge in cheek comments are about his ability not his likeability,Hatton was a working class hero who got were he did fighting hasbeens and know body’s,any body who knows boxing knows just how limited he was,I personaly lost respect for hatton when he fought tszyu at 4am in Manchester to suit America networks, his best skill was making money by playing the mr popularity card

Hatron was only a one weight champion, he only won a title at 147. And I don’t dislike him, I like Hatton a lot. But fact is he had no boxing skills other than his jab. He was a brawler. He liked to get close and fight

Oh Yeah hold and wrestle for dear life, and then when you get beat say….I trained too hard and left it all in the gym. Never understood the Hatton thing.
