Marc Livitz….I am no longer surprised by the writers on ESB,but do you have to go so far as to make things up to shine your story, I refer to your abysmal quote “Muhammad Ali who famously stood outside the hotel of Joe Frazier in Manila and fired a gun in the air “…..Didn’t happen Marc…..But Sonny Liston fired blanks at Ali in a club in Vegas before their first fight…..

Saul Alvarez can defeat ANYONE in his weight class. This includes Mayweather, and yes, Manny P, Saul will be the best lb for lb fighter in the next 10 years! My opinion of course.

REM Mayweather made 20 mill more than Manny without endorsements, he outsells and out fights Pacquaio, you have to learn to accept Mannys second class status… FMJ owns boxing that’s why he takes most of the pie…

he lost to castillo my dude

Scarily, Mayweather has shifted to becoming a better businessman than fighter. He has mastered the art of anticipation and media presence to his financial benefit. Whats makes this so dangerous is that even though he is no longer in his prime, he garners the attention and money as if he is and by many, still considered the best in the game…not many athletes can accomplish that. He style of fighting creates longevity and preservation, which equates to him being able to maintain his level of talent and dominance for so long. He decides who he fights, when he fights, where he fights, how much he makes, how much his opponent makes…what other fighter doesnt want or covet that??? And fans and haters alike all watch to see what happens next.

“Mayweather is the Mount Rushmore of boxing” terrific statement he is a BEAST as it pertains to capturing the lion share of the revenue, NOT taking silly punishment and figuring out and dismantling whomever you put in front of him… I know, I know all you have to do is pressure him like Castillo who he BEAT LOL!!

Posted January 31, 2013 12:13 pm

Lets get 1 thing straight Pac is the face of boxing. Hes the ppv king not his fault Floyd fights every 12-18 months to build anticipation he holds 3 endorsment deals not his fault Floyds a horrible business man and pissed endorsments away hes the most decorated champ in boxing history and the most popular fighter on the planet.

Castillo was FAR from some sort of epic robbery, it was a somewhat close fight where Floyd got the nod then came back and put it on Castillo.. Floyd has basically won ALL but one of his fights via either UD or stoppage its a remarkable achievement he is NOT some sort of huge puncher nor very big fighter but his skills and athletic talent render most contests unfair NOT because his opponents suck, but because he is simply the best… The guys racing against Usain Bolt are NOT slow, but they are a step behind Bolt… Floyd knows the feeling….

Peej; I agree with you. But I want to also add on to what you just said. What makes me laugh at folks when they bring up that fight with Castillo is the fact that NONE OF THEM ever gives Floyd credit for being MAN ENOUGH to give the man a REMATCH to leave NO DOUBT who was better. We all know what happened in that second fight; but nobody never seems to want to talk about that.

Posted January 31, 2013 2:36 am

Well I thought Floyd won the first fight by a round. So in close fights there are always going to be folks who say someone else should of lost. It was not robbery just a close fight that went Floyds way. And this was way before he was a star. Heck Castillo carried more weight than he did at the time

Posted January 31, 2013 1:02 am

castillo was robed against mayweather in there first fight, not to say floyd isn’t great, but there should be one loss on his record

Fighters fight to pay the bills. Even in the past the fighter fought so often because they had to not for any other reason. If they made the money Floyd does they would have fought less. Stop trying to compare the rate at which a fighter vs the skill of the fighter. They were all great and I wouldn’t bet against Floyd in any fight.

Fight Aficionado

Decisions, Decisions, Decided – It’s been decided, months ago. They’re still pretending it’s a debate between Canello and Guerrero but we all know it’s Floyd vs Guerrero. Boring mismatch, and another easy payday for Floyd.

Posted January 30, 2013 8:04 pm

Floyd is definitely not the best of all time but he is one of the greatest fighters of our generation. With in the last 15 years or so he would rank in the top 5.

Posted January 30, 2013 7:55 pm

“Hidalgo, You are gonna have to choke on this BIG slice of reality …” Bottom line, it’s a matter of opinion, SRedmond. And my opinion is that Mayweather IS NOT the best of his generation.

Posted January 30, 2013 7:33 pm

How can Floyd fight Pacquiao when Pacquiao cannot even get by Marquez at this point?? Manny would need a crushing win over JMM to reinvigorate a discussion about his chances vs Floyd and this is coming from a guy who is a fan of BOTH fighters….

Posted January 30, 2013 6:39 pm

Hidalgo, You are gonna have to choke on this BIG slice of reality Mayweather is indeed the BEST of this generation, undefeated, consistently dominant over ALL who come his way…He has gone thru 5 divisions and multiple HOFERs he is the most sought after boxer in the sport and the cash cow… Manny has fallen and fallen hard its Mayweather all day long now….Who do you think is the best???

Posted January 30, 2013 6:38 pm

I was wondering what was keeping the announcement of Floyds opponent likely will coincide with the Superbowl, most people seem to think Guerrero or Canelo but will be interestin to see if they announce anyone else, i remember being shocked when the Ortiz fight was announced.

Can’t believe the amount of hate towards Mayweather on this site either, why can boxing fans not appreciate his talent, he has had a HOF career & as for the cherry-picking comments i think these are largely not true. Boxing politics often means great fights do not get made or when they do are often delayed. 1 fighter Floyd was always accused of ducking (in his prime) was Cotto when in actual fact Cotto was slated as his next opponent after the Gatti fight at 140lbs but after the destruction of Gatti, Cotto didnt want the fight then. Then following yrs of Cotto fighting under Arum (& thus only fighting Arum fighters) once he was a free agent the fight was made right away.

Posted January 30, 2013 5:30 pm

Even though I cant stand him you do have to recognize Floyds amazin defensive skills. But he should never put himself with Sugar Robinson,Ali,Armstrong etc like hes one of the GOATs for many reasons, but just one that stands out for me is him fightin just once every year and a half. I heard he announced not too long ago that he will fight twice this year woooow damn twice in one year! You are too good to us Floyd. He should look at the records of some of the true greats and see how many times and frequently they went to war before he makes that comparison again.

Posted January 30, 2013 5:22 pm

Floyd is a great fighter but nowhere near the G.O.A.T. not even close

Mayweather made a circus out of boxing retiring, unretiring, sporadic fight. Just like Sugar Ray Leonard. I’m glad Camacho beat Leonard stopped the circus clown. That way they think about really never coming back to boxing, still in until the end and fight who you are suppose to fight. I like Mayweather, but I hate his sporadic fighting.

The Jr/Pac non-fight continues to lose value everyday. It won’t happen & if it ever does one or both won’t be relevant, elite level fighters. By that time they might have to build a ramp to the apron for both guys to get their hoveround in the ring. Probably the biggest non-fight since Bowe/Lewis or Trinidad/Mosley.

@Sredmond. There’s no point in trying to make sense of reality for people. It is often said you cannot win an argument with an ignorant person, which I think u know means you are wasting your time. People love to hate because they cannot deal with reality. Just smile at them and say here is your helmet, no go sit down at the table and do your finger painting:)

Floyd Mayweather biggest fraud in boxing. This clown needs to fight elite fighters at their prime to be considered and win .

I thought this was going to be news. Of course Jr is going to piggyback off a big event. That is smart marketing & cheap promotion. All of Jr’s fights are Heavily promoted, no news there. The real news would have been an official announcement. Probably Guerrero which is a good match up. I don’t think Guerrero can still be put in the undersized category. Guerrero man-handled Berto & his chicken legs all night. Guerrero was able to stay in Berto’s chest & stay busy. Guerrero also proved he could take shots from a big puncher. I like this match up. Canelo still hasn’t faced any top level opposition, much less anyone that can prepare him for someone as slippery as Jr. Canelo is still a work in progress. Canelo has nothing to lose vs. Jr. he will be expected to lose but he won’t take a lot of punishment & is still young enough to move forward.

Posted January 30, 2013 12:09 pm

Livitz says… “His handers aren’t ready to see Canelo have it handed to him by a far superior fighter.” WTF? You must be talking about Austin Trout.. All the Canelo people want is a Mayweather fight.. They even said they would fight “anybody” if they were guaranteed a Floyd fight next … You’re just not listening.

Some people here are still talking about the Floyd-Castillo I fight.. Floyd won that fight unanimously by 4 or 5 points on EVERY scorecard—my card was 1116-112—even though Floyd suffered a partially torn rotator cuff injury which limited his jab in that fight.. Floyd gave Castillo a boxing lesson in the rematch—which because of all the brick bats Merchant threw at Floyd he immediately wanted to give Castillo.. “Let’s do a rematch.” Lennox Lewis could have taken a lesson from him.

“but he is the best of this generation” Why? Because that’s what you heard or read? He’s the best welterweight right now, but that’s about it.

Posted January 30, 2013 11:50 am

Mayweather is 36 and in boxing that is certainly getting old, if these young fighters cannot get to him then SHAME on them… Martinez, Marquez and FMJ are all spanking guys many years their junior and the reality the deserve the cache that comes with taking out ranked fighters that are much younger… No matter how pristine his defense FMJ has absorbed the wear and tear of a professional athlete for over 20 years (amateur and pro) as a professional NONE of these fighters have been able to do more than win a few rounds, its a remarkable acheivement considering he has been a Champ in 5 weight classes and fought multiple HOF fighters, standing and ex multi-division Champions…

Posted January 30, 2013 11:31 am

Casamayor and Freitas don’t belong in the same sentence as FMJ, Joel was slick fighter in his prime and Freitas could hit but he (Freitas) QUIT against Corrales who FMJ totally dominated when he was a PRIME undefeated fighter… AGAIN you will have to wait till time erodes his skills because Floyd is the KING of boxing all others are subordinate and thats just a fact…

Posted January 30, 2013 10:46 am

You lost me at “world’s greatest fighter”

Posted January 30, 2013 10:45 am

Mayweather is likely going to fight against PRIME 4 weight Champ Guerrero first.. Like Floyd Robert G is coming up from the lower divisions successfully thus far…Guys want to ignore Mayweathers history of coming up from lower weights to challenge bigger fighters because he is so talented its STILL not a fair fight…. If you are against him facing Guerrero who just manhandled a STRONG, YOUNG WW like Berto then you should be against Floyd facing the BIGGER Canelo??? And don’t try to tell me Mayweather is long term at 154 because he ONLY had 2 fights there and he has never even weighed the limit…Robert G has 2 fights at 147 so whats the fking difference??

He’ll take the easiest opponent available. Probably someone coming up from 135-140lbs or a washed up big name. Trout, Canelo, and Pacquiao are not even in the discussion.

And on another note, people say Floyd ducked certain fighters, remember Floyd was under contract with HBO for the longest time and alot of other fighters that he so called ducked where under contract with showtime. Like Casamayor and Freitas where all contracted with showtime

Posted January 30, 2013 2:11 am

For the haters Floyd is a great fighter, I don’t like him but he is the best of this generation. For the supporters, this guy needed to fight more if he ever wanted to be considered one of the greatest of all time. He is a top 25 ATG fighter but won’t break the the top 10. That is reserved for guys who take on all comers and Floyd isn’t that type of fighter.

Floyd is still undefeated. If he was defeated then he would have a number in the loss column and well as you can see he doesn’t. Just because you had him losing in a very close fight does not mean everybody had him losing.
