Minter pandered to racist National Front stock in Surrey, surrounding areas and London. Nothing much decent about them. Fixed for you. You’re welcome.

Minter came from decent “stock” out of Surrey. Fury’s a mug.

Conteh used to bang a Didicoy or two and could always be found legless down Honeypot Lane.

what are we classifying as a world champion 4 belts WBA/IBF/WBO/IBO ? If others then didnt matthew barney win the WBU ? i mean thats basically what ricky hatton had most of his career. Also i think Roy Jones just won the Cruiserweight WBU.

Harry: I’ve never been to DF or Mexico City for that matter, but would like to check it out sometime. But have been to other cities and places in the Northern part of the country. Yeah, you would probably only hear “mano” being used that way in cities like Phoenix, LA, San Diego, San Francisco, Cali,. etc.

Funny that you mention the saying, “mano a mano” and that it’s commonly believed to mean “man to man.” I’m sure it actually means “hand to hand” — as in hand to hand combat — but somehow took on a different meaning among English speakers over the decades. Interesting stuff, mano…lol.

@Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. LionKing)

Yes, I lived in DF for three years — in Iztacalco where Barrera and JM Marquez (and my wife) are from — and am going back soon. It’s just that I’d never noticed anyone using “mano” that way, and I know people use “mano a mano” as if meant “man to man” in English, so I wondered if you’d made a mistake. But no: instead, I learnt something new, which is always nice, so thanks!

Good to hear we’re on the same page, Harry. The Spanish spoken in Spain and Europe is a different dialect than what you’d hear in Mexico and the Western U.S. Your wife is right that people who use more slang, as opposed to formal speech, tend to be perceived as stupid and/or less educated. But hey… ESB is not exactly crawling with Rhodes scholars, Mensa members, and guys with advanced degrees from universities.

“You know ‘mano’ is Spanish for ‘hand’, right hombre?”
Of course I know that because I speak, read and write Spanish. “Mano” is simply short for “hermano,” which means brother. So, the term “mano” is also slang for “bro” in Espanol. But you might only hear that slang being said in certain parts of the Western U.S. ?Entiendes, Ingles?

“Squared, you gotta see it. One of my favorite films ever. Since you know a bit about the Travelers you will LOL. Plus, it’s a freaking great British gangster flick. Perhaps the best one ever.” FA: In that case, I’ll definitely check it out. Generally speaking… I’m a pretty well-versed film buff, and like the whole gangster/organized crime/law enforcement genre, so am not sure how I missed a good flick like that. One of my all-time faves is “Heat” with De Niro, Kilmer, Pacino and Voight.

Pikey is often used by Pikeys themselves, depends on the context whether its a slur or not. Gypsies in Britain are traditionally mostly not the dark skinned Asiatic Roma, they were originally mostly Irish but also other British. Today theyre mostly a mixed bag through travelling around the country and interbreeding with people that have joined their communities over the centuries. Assyrians still exist in Iraq, Syria, Turkey and Iran and still speak some kind of Aramaic and are Christians, usually Assyrian Church of East or Chaldean Catholic Church.

FA: You’re probably right about that, mano. I’ve never seen “Snatch” (the film… lol), but have heard that it’s supposed to be pretty good. My sister lived in the UK for years and I went to visit her a couple times. I rented a car and toured the British Isles, including IRL. My understanding is that “traveller” is a broad term that also applies to Romani gypsies and other ethnic groups living a similar nomadic lifestyle. You’re absolutely right about “pikeys” being an ethnic slur for Irish travellers. I believe the other common slurs are “knackers” and “tinkers.” The derogatory slur for Romani travellers is “gyppos.” So yeah… they speak a whole different dialect of English over there, bro. Funny stuff!

Bill Patrice Jones said it pretty much right. Fury is clumsy at times and doesn’t use his height to his best advantage, but he’s all heart when the fight gets rough and he doesn’t quit like others. Fury can get knocked down but so far’s he’s got up and then finished the other man brutally.Tyson Fury has beaten Chisora already and assuming he’s in shape and raring to go, he mostly likely beats Del Boy again.

Posted April 1, 2014 7:05 pm

Whatever happened to the traveler Jr., Baby Hughie? Lately, his fights have been postponed, cancelled, or changed in location. Last year, Hughie was fighting all the time, but now his activity has come to a deafening halt. What’s going on within team Fury and Hughie’s schedule?

“Most Americans probably don’t understand the meaning of the term “traveller.” But no need for explanations. Let them keep thinking a traveller is a jet-setter with a passport who regularly travels the four corners of the globe on lavish, expensive vacations.” – Squared, most Americans’ exposure to the Travelers came from that Guy Ritchie film Snatch. But they weren’t called Travelers they were called Pikeys, which I understand is an ethnic slur.

If Fury shows up in shape like in this pic against Cunningham he’ll win, possibly by KO this time. If he shows up fat again then all bets are off.

Bill Patrice Jones

Fury is massively underrated by large bastions of boxing’s faithful. The fact that he looked so terribly clumsy and reckless in his early days has never really been forgiven, but actually in hindsight it is a miracle that Fury wasn’t beaten in his early days. Fury would get blinding drunk the night before a bout, use substances, go on all night parties, and totally disrespect training. In spite of this he still always managed to win those fights and the toughest division for so called ‘soft opponents’ is always the heavyweight division. Fury’s early opponents weren’t even very soft comparitively speaking. Starting from the Chisora fight Fury has consistently shown he has multiple great attributes for such a uniquely big man. He moves well, can be nimble, has a good solid jab, high punch numbers, durability, toughness, can fight inside. He is limited, and a ‘maybe’ questionable chin, but has always managed to badly beat up everyone who wobbled him (Mcdermott, Chisora, Cunningham, Firtha). Fury is a very very interesting opponent for Wladimir purely by virtue of the fact that he is very big and can punch inside. There has not been one opponent for Wladimir at elite level who has ever had both those qualities. Yes he’s a buffoon. But he’s sort of a guilty pleasure in a way. Boxing NEEDS him to beat Chisora because stylistically Derek is beyond perfect for suffering a brutal sustained 6-7 round career ending TKO against Wladimir

Posted April 1, 2014 2:29 pm

As for Fury he will beat Chisora again. He would be an underdog vs Wlad (or Haye), but I think he has a better chance of causing an upset than anyone else in the division.

The earliest Indo-European (Aryan) languages PROVEN historically were found in Asia Minor, modern Turkey, in the form of Luwian, Kaskian, Hittite and Mycaenean Greek.

Posted April 1, 2014 9:14 am

The Celtic Populations are quite close to each other, be they Brythonic (Welsh, Cornish, Ancient Briton, Pictish, Breton) or Gaelic (Irish, Scots, Manx). The Engish also, are not strictly ”Anglo-Saxon”, quite strong traces of Celtic and pre-Celtic traits remain, distinguishing them from Germans, Danes etc. Of course Britain and Ireland has strong later input from Danes, Norse, Normans, Frisians and other Germanic-Nordic peoples. Those farmers from the Near East were unlikely to have been Indo-Europeans, too early. More likely speakers of a Language-Isolate or at a push some form of Semitic speakers.

Posted April 1, 2014 9:12 am

Genetically the English, Irish, Welsh, Scots, Cornish, Manx and Bretons are pretty much the same people. Their genetic roots are at base level from the Pre-Indo-European- Pre-Celtic inhabitants of the British Isles…weirdly the earliest farmers in the area circa 10,000 BC migrated from northern Iraq and northern Syria….so, Fury and all the other Brits and Irish are all Assyrians, Akkadians, Amorites or Arameans! lol

I have to wonder how the giant Fury could fit into one those little caravans? He must have a bad back from being stooped over like the Hunchback of Notre Dame since he was about 13. No wonder why he can’t fight tall, like a 6’9″ man with a giant reach should. I wonder if he drives a Mini-Cooper with a sunroof? If so, I hope he wears a helmet with good eye protection…lol.

Glassimir Klinchwagon is a man born from his mother. (I’ve seen his birth certificate) he will vacate before fighting the Furious one. Why, I hear you ask? Well, for one he is intermingled with his Brother’s Political botherings and has one foot outside of boxing, the second foot is mostly involved in a lady 1/3 of his size. He may well lean on the Povetkins and Pulev’s of the World but Mr. Fury’s determination would see the aging Borat in a world of trouble.. as good as he is, it’s clear to see Wlad’s Price-esque limitations’

Were’t there three or four Hilton brothers? Sure they were Canadian and at least one fought for and won the Light MW title in the late 80’s…. Sure there was some serious scandal (1nc3st?) that followed them and arrests and prison, but so long ago I can’t quite remember. They were lauded as the first family of Canada and drew huge crowds for their fights, but were serious dunderheads outside the ring.

Harry…Yes my studies in that field lead me to my love of boxing.Where the early cavemen would club each other over the head in the first cave stadiums…where prizefighting was first coined. The winners would win the inside of their cave redecorated for free.Womans lib also arose from this being thought of as a trophy or a object instead of a feeling human being.

Posted March 31, 2014 5:31 pm

Harry…Even before 1893 people had perment housing.Cave dewellers lived in the same cave their whole life, sometimes passing it on to their childrens, children.Sometimes you had blocks of caves and families never moved out from the neighborhood, making it hard for new comers to move into the neighborhood.Millions of years ago you could walk past a cave and if you could come back to it 150yrs later the same family could be living there just different family members.Infact it was travellers who invented the wheel making the first cart, because they could never sink roots into being a perment cave owner!!!

The Jr. Middle Collins was ko’d by Andy Till and disappeared after that. George Collins got beat by Kirklaind Laing and Gary Jacobs. Both of them were brought along too quickly. The Frankhams were gypsies, as was Gypsy Carman who was a cruiserweight. Billy Joe Saunders is one too I think. In the 18th and 19th centuries there were quite a few I think.

Posted March 31, 2014 8:21 am

I’m amazed we haven’t had a world champion from the travelling community before. Does anyone remember the Collins family back in the late 80s early 90s? I think there was Boy Georgie Collins and his brother Tony Collins. George was a welterweight, tall and blessed with good looks and a fine amateur record. Unfortunately, he never quite made it. He ran into THE GIFTED ONE, Kirkland Laing and Gary Jacobs (underrated) and disappeared from boxing with something like a 35-2 record. Tony was more of a fighter than George and I think there was another brother somewhere also. I think they were here and then gone within a 5 year blitz under a certain promoter I won’t mention.
When I think back, they all were retired before their 25th birthdays.

If anyone has anymore info on the Collins family I would be grateful if you can update me.

I was just donning the gloves as an amateur for the first time when these two were turning pro.
