Good work from Martinez and good for him getting the award, but a writer can only write only so much about Martinez before it starts to get boring ,,thats why you have to write something about Chavez Jr. and thats why Chavez Jr. gets pay more and will get Pay more if there is a rematch…

Martinez is top 1 or 2 P4P in the world, Ward being the other guy. Chavez was a big Cruiser on fight night and he still got his nose broken and his cheek bone fractured, thouse who say if he opened up earlier he would of won are on drugs. He did nothing for 11 1/2 rounds and got schooled he tries more he gets really beat

All BS aside makes for an interesting Rematch.. ??? we’ll see…

Congrats to Martinez. When he was floored by Chavez, I felt he would still win by clinching/holding, to my surprise, he chose to stand and fight…it scared me, but it also showed me just how much heart Sergio has, he didn’t run, he didn’t hold nor box, he FOUGHT and fought hard after be clearly hurt and dropped, that’s not something you can teach, that comes from within. Martinez is a TRUE warrior and a true champion. Props!

Well done Martinez …. I am so pleased he completely outboxed Chavez. MArtinez is old school and a hardcore warrior

Good for Martinez. However, how and why does an article that’s reporting an award for Martinez quickly turn into a dig towards Chavez Jr. and a discussion on probable problems he was having in his corner. Nice journalism!?!?

Martinez is a classy P4P representative of the Sport and in perhaps the final plateau of his career he’s making statements with not only each win but also “losses” that should’ve been wins. along the way he’s responded with grit and ferocity to situations that would’ve made your average PR “greeat” take a knee or hop right out of the ring. instead Martinez retaliates with stinging combos and powerpunches from a variety of angles. Any win over Martinez by Any other middle would have to be considered an Upset.

Wake up skinnysteve…. Chavez has had 48 fights and still can’t box.. A rock-like chin doesn’t last forever. Every hard shot takes it toll, and one of these fights Chavez is going to land face first on the canvas.

SkinnySteve – go watch the fight again, Martinez hurt Chavez Jr. all night long.. backed him up, bloodied his face.. Swelled up his Eyes, bloodied his mouth etc etc etc.. and that was with a Broken hand a 25lb weight Disadvantage.. I’d say Martinez the old man per Chavez Jr. did very well indeed…

Martinez has earned every bit of recognition. However, he will get very little wherever the majority of the fans are Mexicans, and that’s okay. We all know Martinez fought like a true champion and has continued to show he’s one true warrior. That’s all that really matters.

wake up boxing fans chavez jr was hit with every thing “maravilla” had martinez could not hurt chavez jr martinez said he would KO jr did not happen will never happen martinez does not have the power to bother jr and after absorbing martinez’s “shots” for 11 2/3 rounds jr still had enough left to nearly KO the Argentinian chavez jr is the number 1 middleweight contender

If Canelo would take on Cuban Lara, his Belts Mandatory Challenger next and then clear out some of the others at his weight class like Rosado, Quillin etc.. it would go along way to prove he’s on the road to being a top Mexican Champion but right now he is being painted into a corner by his management team and he will be forced to take on one of the top guys without really having faced top opponents.. that’s a recipe for a bad night…

zckgqs – thanks bro, I’m not hating on mex’s plenty of good Mex Boxers.. my point with Canelo and Chavez Jr. is that they’ve been sheltered and protected like no other Mexican Fighters before them.. In my opinion this approach is geared more towards avoiding true Challenges and trying to get that one or two huge Payday fights down the road in their Careers.. this is not the way it used to be.. look at the Puerto Rican Fighters last weekend that only had 16 fights, unbeaten but they put him in with Darchiniyan, hardly a cream puff… This is why were’re just not seeing the Great Fighters like we used to see before from Mexico because it’s not a Beauty Pagent and they won’t risk these fighters early to really weed out the true fighters with top skills and potentiall but as we saw with Chavez Jr. eventully you have to fight someone who is actually a threat and it can be disasterious… Canelo should be focusing on taking on the top challengers at his weight class and division like Cuban Lara and PR Rosado.. win or lose it will prove whether or not he has what it takes to be a true top Champ..

WTF??? I agree with everything you say. I see you as a true boxing fan not just a fighters fan like most of theae so called boxing fans. I’m Mexican and I never cherred for Canelo or Chavez jr because I realized that they are juat a big hype with no true dominant wins to secure their place as true champions

Martinez beat a faded ghost and Paul who was already sliding down hill. He looked bad in fights after that with no names. Jr was never a top rated fighter and never will be. Only reason Martimez took the fight is because everyone knew that. Sergio is afraid to fight AA. If Martinez had balls he would have been in the super six plain and simple.

Posted October 7, 2012 11:09 am

slight correction: Canelo, like Chavez Chicken Jr. is all smoke and mirrors.. no real substance.. They’re going towards 50 fights and have yet to face a legit top opponent in his own weight class…

Posted October 7, 2012 9:24 am

Canelo would never fight someone his size who is not shot or over the hill.. no fkn way he fights Sergio when he can continue dodging him and fighting 140lb skinny chihuahuas… Canelo, like Martinez is all smoke and mirrors.. no real substance.. They’re going towards 50 fights and have yet to face a legit top opponent in his own weight class…

Tachyon,You got it the other way around does GB & canelo have the balls??He said his promoters felt it was not in his best interest he fight the current middleweight #3p4p fighter.Sergio is proven not canela the overrated hype job like jr.

Posted October 7, 2012 1:19 am

Lame man shrivels down to a raisin to make weight and jr is not a world class fighter. Canelo is better than Martinez. if Martinez has balls take on AA.

Clown face

This guy stomped Chavez like a nark at a biker rally. He won 44 out of 45 minutes of combat! Sergio is the best fighter in the world @ his natural weight of 154. No one who is any one wants any part of this someone. Go Sergio!

what an honor to receive this coveted award. Cant wait to see who wins next month.

pain – if anyone is overrated its Chavez Cheato jr.. Now he’s the top over-rated fighter of the last 4 years… Sergio whoooped that Butt, now get over it and stop being the typical Mexican Sore loser… give the ARgentinian his props…

Posted October 6, 2012 8:35 pm

Tark – he won 11 3/4 rounds to be exact..

Posted October 6, 2012 8:33 pm

If he lost he’d be overrated — he won 11 of 12 rounds by a wide margin.. If he’s a natural 154-pounder certainly Canelo, Cotto, and Mayweather, all world champions at that weight, want no part of him for good reason … At 37 he’s a very tough guy to beat.

Posted October 6, 2012 8:09 pm

More like overrated fighter of the month.

Good for Sergio, he is a good man and a credit to boxing and Latinos. Classy guy.

Why doesn’t Sr. just become a trainer then if he wants to undermine the actual trainer?
