Fight Aficionado

I disagree he has nobody to fight. Provo has a title and a spot on premium cable. If none of the stars want to fight he takes on whomever wants to step up, gets paid, and goes after the name guys afterwards.

Titopa raises a good point. no one should sleep on Herrera. he’s a very capable boxer who isn’t afraid to exchange. he was ultimately swarmed and overwhelmed by Alvarado but he never quit and he did outbox Provodnikov. Ruslan remains vulnerable to an expert boxer but Maidana, Mathysse, or Pacquiao* would be guaranteed fireworks.

Posted February 12, 2014 5:51 pm

He’s beaten the chit out of most of his competition.

Posted February 12, 2014 4:41 pm

Marquez needs to fight ruslan, after thinking about it, I think thats a good match up, could end up being a pretty interesting fight.

Posted February 12, 2014 3:57 pm

Tomato Can – I agree. Provo lost to Garcia’s next opponent Herrera.

Posted February 12, 2014 3:49 pm

NO WAY does Provo beat Garcia, and I’m not even a big Garcia fan….but if a super puncher like Matthysse can’t beat Garcia, no way does “chin up” fighter like Provo beat him. I’d pick Garcia via 7th round TKO.

Provo’s in demand. His aggressive, brutal style makes him a real crowd pleaser. However, he may have a shortage of big named opponents in the short run. The solution might be to follow GGG’s example and take a stay busy bout abroad. Out-of-country fights could include: Zolani Makli-South Africa, Jason Pagara-Philippines, Cesar Cuenca-Argentina, Sekuk Aydin-Turkey, Amir khan-UK, Dierry Jean-Canada, or Humberto Soto-Mexico. Over the long run, Provo will have no problem obtaining a top rated opponent; HBO can bring in huge ratings televising his wars.

I hope Provodnikov doesn’t get beat by some unkown boxer while he’s waiting for a more lucrative fight. As strong as Provo is, he’s volunrable to being out boxed.

Posted February 12, 2014 1:08 pm

I don’t think he is under Top Rank. I thought he was under another promotional out fit. But I am not sure.

Posted February 12, 2014 12:48 pm

Allakhverdiev is already busy in April with Vargas which is actually a pretty good, competitive fight.

It’s not easy to just jump ship from Top Rank (or any promoter) when you’re in contract. Remember Gamboa getting sidelined?
The best he can hope for is that Top Rank and Golden Boy stop stifling fights and allow the bouts to happen. The issue of networks I believe is one that can be solved for fighters of Provodnikov’s stature (i.e. has pretty strong interest without necessarily being a “star”)… it’s not a big deal for the network with the higher revenue generating fighter to pay the opposing fighter’s network for a temporary release (i.e. when there’s mutual profit to be made, these companies are smart enough to work together).

The problem is always boxing promoters. Take for example if Prov tried to negotiate a fight with Garcia. Garcia is most likely the more accomplished of the two, and possibly the bigger draw so you’d think the fight should happen on Showtime with GBP taking the lead in promotion… but there is no way in hell Top Rank would agree to that.
Both promoters would start fudging numbers to prove their fighter is the bigger draw, but given that neither are headliners, any numbers they put forward are going to be shoddy.
If they just worked together and split profits, they’d earn less per fight, but I’d be fairly sure that they’d have far more fights that pull larger revenue (i.e. entertaining bouts like Garcia-Prov) than what they’re getting at the moment (i.e. Prov vs whoever they can scrape up).

The Great Cornholio

Prov looks like he’s taking a dump.

Posted February 12, 2014 3:04 am

Is Ruslan signed to top rape? That insure he will have to fight Marquez, Manny or Bradley and no one else…

Posted February 12, 2014 2:38 am

The Great Cornholio

Pubic enema, Collazo and Swift aren’t even perro ricans and Ortiz isn’t a real beaner. A badly faded shell of Morales almost beat Danny thats pretty embarrassing. Mikey Garcia beat Danny in the amateurs now you know who the better Garcia is. Also Josesito Lopez beat Ortiz wow thats such a great accomplishment by Collazo that he’s as good as a mexican journeyman. He celebrated like he won megaballs lottery. Perro ricans like to play megaballs like their hero orlando cruz, the idol of pubic enema.

Mexicans usually travel to De La Rico island to beatdown over-hyped Ricans. this time they imported a bootleg-rican from Philly, which is actually a case of the knock-off being a lot better than the real thing. i mean, I would pick Danny over any territorial-rican but not against Canelo. Btw, when is Garcia going to challenge Canelo? we all know that Danny walks around at 160+. he can easily meet Canelo at 154lbs. what’s he afraid of, anyway?

Galletas apestosas de Puerco Chico

Pacquioa should be fight Provodnikov.

Posted February 11, 2014 10:58 pm

Galletas apestosas de Puerco Chico

Danny said he wants no part with the welterweights. He said he rather fight taxi drivers, bums, tomato cans, bartenders, in Puerco Chicle than come and face someone like Mikey Garcia let alone Provdnikov.

Posted February 11, 2014 10:58 pm

Provo should be fighting JMM but that Mexican ain’t no warrior he’s a coward

Posted February 11, 2014 10:55 pm

Galletas apestosas de Puerco Chico

Public Enemy- isnt Danny Garcia hiding in Puerco Chico fighting a street performer or something for pesos?

Posted February 11, 2014 10:55 pm

Provo should just keep busy & STFU.

Posted February 11, 2014 9:53 pm

Can’t get a top fight? Just be busy fight anyone in the WBO top 10 who will get in the ring and crush em

Lots of great fighters won belts in a weak era or had a hard time unifying or hit ducked, they made up for it by just racking up defenses

Posted February 11, 2014 9:48 pm

@ thermal undies
Provo hits hard too.

Posted February 11, 2014 9:46 pm

Provo is only contracted for one fight with top rank. And he beats Garcia.

Posted February 11, 2014 9:44 pm

That’s pathetic how can a world champ have no one to fight who’s his mandatory

Ruslan ain’t taking shots from Garcia like he was taking from Bradley. No sir.

i don’t understand how any welter can complain of a lack of opponents to choose from? aren’t the likes of Thurman, Guerrero, or Soto-Karass available? try harder if you want fight-fans to believe that the ONLY desireable matchups at welter are Mayweather or Pacquiao*.

No need 2 unify. Khabib was mentioned, unify v him until Arum gives him PAC or Ruslan go’s 2 GBP. There’s always need 2 unify. Who can deny u anything with 2 belts round ur waste. Not unifying and 2 many champs is the problem with boxing.

Posted February 11, 2014 6:45 pm

well hope he gives mayfied or the Khalil a shot. Ruslan is always exciting and should go to GBP.

Posted February 11, 2014 6:28 pm

Ray Ray

Provo should unify….almost curtain Arum will give Provo PAC, if Provo resigns that is.

Posted February 11, 2014 6:27 pm

Tomato Can

It’s hard to find a fight when the majority of your possible matchups fight for another promotional team, that won’t do bussiness with your promoter.

Matthysse would be great, as well. The thing I like about the Maidana fight, though, is that they are both coming off victories and they both currently have belts, so it would be good to see two champions squaring off. Also, the winner puts himself in a good position for one of the big money fights at 147.

Posted February 11, 2014 5:49 pm

I wouldn’t pass on a fight with Maidana but it sure would be nice to have the other 140 lb fighters fight him. A fight with Garcia would be nice, even Peterson and or Matthysse.

Agree with MNboxingFAN – Sean, fight Maidana. No way that fight isn’t exciting! Danny Garcia would be good, too.

Posted February 11, 2014 5:35 pm

Martin- totally agree.

Combined with all the alphabet belts and it’s the fans who ultimately lose out.

Posted February 11, 2014 5:31 pm

Provodnikov vs Koysta Tszu !!! – Mayweather or Pacquiao vs Kosta Tszu = 100 Million Fight !!!

Posted February 11, 2014 5:22 pm

This Showtime/HBO split is completely ruining the sport for all boxing fans. The best thing would be for everyone to boycott both channels until they start making the fights we all want to see. Sadly, it would take some really high profile person to call for such a boycott before it had any effect, and I can’t see anyone doing it.

Posted February 11, 2014 5:09 pm

Mr gav

These television networks need to sort there s*** out. Prov is a exciting dangerous fighter who could be in some great fights!

Posted February 11, 2014 4:48 pm

A suspension didn’t stop Arum from making a Chavez Jr. fight, so Ríos being suspended in China should not stop Arum from making this fight either. Especially when he already put the blame on Ariza.

Posted February 11, 2014 4:43 pm

MNboxingFAN – Sean

Why not fight Maidana?

Posted February 11, 2014 4:29 pm

The Honeybadger

By the looks of it, a rematch with Alvarado is the best option. This time could be in Russia or Ruslan could be on undercard of Bradley-Pacquiao 2, I think many people looking forward to seeing him fight anybody! Really looking forward to Bradley-Prov 2!
