Agree with the comments regarding his lack of confidence.
He needs a change, but the latest proposed fight at Cruiser was a bad idea. He needs a few quick easy fights to keep busy, get some confidence and energy back, and take the big steps after.
All could be achieved in the first nine months of this year.

now you know why we have so many paper belts about in modern boxing so fighters like cleverly can get one.

The only good thing I can say about Cleverly is at least he had a go. I’m now eager to see if the other LHW’s can pluck up the courage!? We’ll only know how bad Nathan was when Bhop & Stevenson climb in the ring with the Russian …although I very much doubt either will be daft enough to stand in front of him! But let’s hope it happens, after all, this is boxing not musical chairs!

Tark…agreed..well said!!!

Cleverly = Former paper champ = scared of being KO’ed again and again and again.

I agree Cleverly has been found out big time. Kovalev crushed him and Nathan realises he is not the elite level fighter he thought he was. He’s tried sneaking up to cruiserweight for an easy route to a belt but there isn’t one. The guy was always protected and overrated.

Cleverley has been found out… I doubt he will be world champion again.

Posted January 8, 2014 5:53 am

Since the Kovalev fight Cleverly always looks depressed as Hell…

He’s got zero confidence in what he’s doing. He was 26-0 and a World Champion and now he’s in gloom city. It’s hard when you’ve had years of easy success and reality sets in when you get smashed by a great fighter.

I believe they’re legitimate injuries… But when you’re down mentally and emotionally, that’s when you get injured and nothing goes right.

You have to snap out of it. You’re a young guy and your career isn’t over. You get a better trainer… a better team… a better attitude… and you get right back after it… Going 25 pounds up in weight is a big jump. You need to make sure you’re strong and fit at 200.

Good comments from Hildago and Raygun. Stick around guys we need more good posters at ESB, which has been overrun by tards in recent months.

Doubt it’s a legit injury. Cleverly’s not in a good place I don’t think. He got KTFO by Kovalev at 175 and decided to GTFO of the division knowing he’d never be able to beat him. So he’s adding a bunch of dead weight to compete at cruiser but probably won’t have much pop.

MR GAV…Good post, agree 100% lets see what happens from here…we will know shortly how this unfolds…

Posted January 7, 2014 3:49 pm

was only a c level fighter anyway.

Posted January 7, 2014 3:24 pm

has he been training with david toe haye.

Posted January 7, 2014 3:21 pm

Mr Gav

I genuinely want clev to do well in boxing and start to redeem himself after his first defeat. But pulling out of 2 straight fights may be a cause for concern considering clev has not done this before. I don’t try think crusier weight is the right move for clev enless he has to be weight drained to make light heavy. I don’t think he deserves all the bad press he gets he fought the wrong fight against a extremely dangerous fighter. I don’t know where clev goes from here but good luck to him.

Or, maybe Cleverly has become injury-prone. Or maybe after getting clobbered by Kovalev, he decided he didn’t like being clobbered anymore.

“Look at the crap Peter Fury has his boys doing… 250kg dreads with zero form. ”

Some old school trainers are reluctant to embrace new methods, and technologies. But if their fighters get injured then the trainers learn the hard way that what they are doing is wrong. I bet some refuse to acknowledge their errors as well.

Iron Mike

Cleverly was about to get KO’d in this fight, I think Cleverly is looking for an easier opponent

Gets more injuries than Theo Walcott…

Posted January 7, 2014 12:52 pm

It was a stupid first fight at cruiser anyway! What’s with these families? They know nothing about boxing of how to prepare. Look at the crap Peter Fury has his boys doing… 250kg dreads with zero form. It wouldn’t surprise me if he has them chasing chickens!
Take Nathen cleverlys style, it looks like it’s been set up by a dentist and Enzo Calzaghe should have gone back to playing trumpets or whatever he used to do. The only reason he had any success is because Joe was an out right freak! Fast hands, granit chin, staminer of a Wolf and a boxing brain of his own (not Enzo’s). Imagine what he’d been like had he been brought up by an American trainer?
