I totally agree with that. I don’t understand why they have weighins so far ahead of the fight and not on fight day?

This why Title fight weights should be monitored right up until 4 hours before a contest. So if your a light-welterweight then you come in @ 140lb & if your a light-heavy then you come in @ 175!

knowing you’re going to get your ASS kicked fighting guys your size is always a deterent to Bullys.. So they chose to play it safe and fight smaller guys…

smart post. ward is anxious to get at chavez, but says martinez is too small to fight him. he understands martinez fights opponents 10-20 pounds heavier on a regular basis. and should be a jr middleweight…..but cant get fights there.

I feel bad for Jr. Killing himself to make 160 and sure to be outclassed if he jumps to 168. After he gets picked apart by Martinez on Saturday night,no doubt he’ll have to make the jump to 68, and double down on training to develop a jab and a much better defense so he can better compete with Froch, Pavlik, Abraham, Kessler, ect. (But he can forget about Ward.)

Chavez against Froch or Pavlik would be good fights…….But Junior would get his ass handed to him!

Chavez jr . does not want to move up to super middle weight yet until he makes his mark in the middle weight division ,,like his dad Chavez sr who made his mark in the jr. light weight ,,,light weight ,,, jr. welter weight divisions winning the title and defending them a number of times ,,unlike some champions who win a title and the move up to a different weight with out defending it..

Sergio arrogant ass will fall! End of the line for Maravilla, Fight Beggar of the Year! Jr. will break his nose! Goodbye Mayweather fight! Goodbye Pacquiao fight! Goodbye ambitions! Sergio, say hello to retirement.

WTF, i don’t quite see the comparison Vinny Paz was a former lightweight champion, moving up to lightheavy weight to fight Jones, are you saying Roy fought a bunch of cab drivers and lightweights ?

“sensitive” or sarcastic regarding the blatant double-standard that is the basis of posts directed against Jr.? otherwise, I’M well aware that virtually All fighters take advantage of previous day weigh-ins to make artificially low weights and then proceed to bully “smaller” fighters after rehydrating overnight. it’s been happening ever since same-day weigh-ins were discarded for the “safety” of the fighters. well-intentioned but without rehydration limits, EVERY fighter will attempt to game the system IF they can.

Posted September 14, 2012 7:15 pm

Why in the world would he want to do that?lol that would mean a fair bout for his opponents. He fights smaller guys & thinks he’s a tough guy,we’ll see how tough he is when he’s eating leather from a real elite fighter.

We know exactly what’s going to happen. Bob Arum will make out like a bandit once again.

None of you know what is going to happen yet you act like prophets. Let me be the next in line then by saying that boxing runs more on money than on talent alone. You think the event was sold out because of matinez. Follow the money trail and you can better predict fights these days. You all bet with your hearts but I bet with my brain. Peace

Not suprised if i was in chavezs position i would stay put at middle and outweigh opponents by 10-20 on fight night easy choice. easy paydays and probably pick up another title at middle and milk it. If he did move up to Sm most likely will get beat downs from ward, direll, froch, kessler even bute.

Posted September 14, 2012 4:47 pm

Roach said “He goes into the ring at 180 or 185, and beats up on smaller guys”….sounds like Chavez has been making an conscious effort to take advantage of his size by boiling down. Martinez has remained at 160 because there aren’t many 154lber show are eager to face him, plus, he only moved up for the opportunity to fight Pavlik.

Posted September 14, 2012 4:36 pm

Cotto would rehydrate to 154lbs after weighing in at 140…that’s quite a bit of “water weight” to put on.

Jr. has good reason to be hesitant about moving up to 168. Heck, he’d probably be better off fighting at 175.

Posted September 14, 2012 4:34 pm

Don’t be so sensitive…there’s dozens of fighters who take advantage of their size and strength. Cotto used to KILL himself to make 140, Corrales boiled down to 130 when his body told him to move up..the list goes on and on.

Btw, it’s not Jr’s fault that Martinez is a small middle who prefers to take advantage of slower “light-heavies” rather than smaller and faster jr. middles.

are we going to start classifying fighters according to their fight-night weights? or does this rule only apply to Chavez Jr.?

Posted September 14, 2012 4:26 pm

The excuse gravy train ha started.

Posted September 14, 2012 4:15 pm

Not surprising. We all knew this.

Posted September 14, 2012 4:08 pm

This is going to be the excuse when Maravilla plasters him. Already putting them out left and right, Jr is not on this level and is getting wrecked late.

Posted September 14, 2012 4:05 pm

Chicken Jr. will end up a Broke Alcoholic Drug abuser like his Glove loading Daddy once he starts getting his Butt handed to him by guys his true size…

I’m surprised that Roach has said that he tried to convince the fat bully to move up in weight. Roach was a fighter and so he knows how unfair it is to continually have the weight advantage over his opponents. None of us who watch boxing is surprised at Chavez’s refusal. He’s a bully and he is afraid to fight someone his own size. What a punk! His father should be ashamed of him. Ward, Pascal, Dawson and others are waiting for him and he knows it. He also knows that super middle weights such as Froch, Kessler and Bute will be in his way. All I could say is what I’ve said before and that is that I hope Sergio beats the balls off of daddy’s boy.

Posted September 14, 2012 3:58 pm

Well we all know that’s not his true size anyway.. his size is a result of years taking Steriods, HGH and who knows what else he’s been putting in his system.. :?:

Posted September 14, 2012 3:57 pm

Palacios and ZBik are waiting for him at Cruiserweight… They want a piece of what ever is left of Chicken Jr as he’s forced to move up and fight guys his true natural size…

Ward kills this guy

Posted September 14, 2012 3:54 pm

Chavez seems to be hardheaded and stubborn…..he will suffer his first loss saturday night

Posted September 14, 2012 3:49 pm

Andre Ward would beat up this Hype Job as badly and humiliatingly as Roy Jones beat up Vinny Pazienza.. It would totally expose Chicken Jr. as the total fraude and non-boxer that he trully is… Just another glorified tough man Bar room brawler who got the breaks because of his famous Daddy and Uncle Sulaiman…

Sounds like an excuse to me
