trout didnt hardly land on canelo. he didnt hardly score. trout seemed to keep his arms extended and try to keep a gap between him and canelo more than he seemed to be striking. trout just was not landing punches plain and simple. trout got beat up and dropped. nonody there had trout winning trout himself didnt claim to have won. for me and 99% or more of other people seem to think canelo won than its safe to say he did win

Posted September 3, 2013 1:38 pm

I felt Trout one by a round. Canelo was clearly gassed and he was playing defense more than anything. Yes he was landing hard punches, harder than Trout but Trout is not a KO puncher. That is the way it is gonna look. I felt Trout out worked Canelo because Canelo was only fighting in sperts.

Posted September 3, 2013 9:38 am

watch canelo vs jose miguel cotto. not only does the 20 year old kid take multiple good punches he takes them WELL. watch that fight then fast forward to canelo vs trout. canelo’s more built and looks to have improved a thousandfold. looks like a different fighter

Posted September 2, 2013 11:10 pm

yeah, about as exposed as mayweather when zab knocked him down. although canelo was on 20 while floyd had been champ for how long?

Hey Bears, nice moniker, Saul FIREWORKS Alvarez. Lol Nice touch my friend indeed. Peace and strength.

Posted September 2, 2013 6:38 pm

remember saul “fireworks” alvarez doing the matrix with trout. i swear canelo looked like neo out there at one point slipping trouts punches like neo dodged bullets. that strait right and that matrix like deffense were absolute highlight gems. and he had other awesome punches. he landed some good uppercuts too

Posted September 2, 2013 5:46 pm

Thanks Bears.., This author is clueless.

Posted September 2, 2013 5:37 pm

i dont know peej. i came away feeling canelo won. the whole time i basically thought canelo was winning. there wasnt really a point i felt trout was winning. to me it was clear canelo landed the most effective punches. and u could see the POWER canelo had right from round 1. its like canelo gets exponentially better every time out. i expect this trend to continue against floyd. im a big canelo fan. this kid has so much. i think he’s currently one ofthe most entertaining fithters in the world. i will watch canelo fight anyone. and canelo has some very good fights already. i think he’s the next cash cow. im really surprised when someone tries to smack talk canelo. it makes me laugh sometimes. this kid is fireworks. his name should saul “fireworks” alvarez. his english nickname should literally be fireworks. love watchin this kid fight.

Canelo didn’t smoke Trout.

Posted September 2, 2013 4:35 pm

Ok that is fine. There are still many people who think Trout won. And regardless the fact is the only scores that matter are the ones the judges turned in and that showed Canelo winning. Still not gonna change my mind. And to keep saying yeah and the punch in the 7th round that knocked down Trout. You of all people should know that just because you are knocked down in a fight does not make you an automatic loser.

Posted September 2, 2013 4:34 pm

PEEJ.., “Many people thought Trout won a close fight.”

Who that counts among top boxers and trainers??? There were 9 scores being looked at during the telecast: the 3 judges… the 3 commentators… and the 3 newspaper writers… They were all American except for the judges … and none of them had Trout winning.

Posted September 2, 2013 4:32 pm

This pundit says.., “Canelo was exposed in his last fight by Austin Trout.”

Right.., That straight right hand in the 7th round, that floored Trout, that was a real expose’.

This is the same writer who called Mikey Garcia stiff and immobile… And said Orlando Salido was going to beat him up and stop him in one of the most ignorant articles I’ve ever read.

Posted September 2, 2013 4:27 pm

Canelo didn’t smoke Trout. Many people thought Trout won a close fight. That indeed was a close fight. One I had Trout winning by a round. The same Canelo that is going to hurt Floyd couldn’t hurt many Jr WW and WW that he fought. Trout is the only real 154lb fighter he has ever fought.

Posted September 2, 2013 4:08 pm

canelos a better 154 pounder. And he smoked trout. he has thereby accomplished more than floyd at 154. i dont see how floyd can keep from getting hurt in this fight. of course floyd is gonna have to run to survive. he’s gonna have to stop running to score. i wish i could put a bunch of money on canelo. oh and bogus excuses for poor showings like “i wanted to give the fans what they wanted” lol people actually buy that garbage? are people that dense? or he had a poor showing cause he didnt run cause roger was training him? please dont try to sell people that garbage. floyd looked vulnerable against the guy that trout wooped and canelo wooped trout. not even trout disputes he lost. trout was absolutely neutralized vs canelo. canelo looked badass against trout. i dont think mosely has ever been in more pain than when canelo brutalized him.

Posted September 2, 2013 3:41 pm

Wat did money do to corrales gotti Hatton? With cotto he just gave fans a fight to see. Key word Boxing. It’s wat money does best hands down. Relive his fights the kids a Master boxer

Posted September 2, 2013 12:46 pm

Problem is with those punches none of them are wasted punches. Many are body punches. Trout wasn’t throwing many punches and Canelo was clearly getting tired. And when Floyd works the body when they are in close, and then moving on Canelo and Canelo having trouble finding Floyd, punches that miss and hit air. That takes a lot out of you. Not to mention the mental stress in the fight. If this fight goes past 8 you will see a gassed Canelo.

Making some1 miss shots takes way more out of an opponent…I hope Alvarez isn’t flat footed or gases, bring on the best fight possible….correct Floyd isn’t a volume puncher… Wastes nothing has a very high land percentage I think Alvarez should adopt the same tactic.. If Alvarez tries overwhelming Floyd early and can’t do so he is toast…looking 4ward 2 see how Alvarez looks on fight night. This should b gd

Posted September 2, 2013 2:40 am

spartacus 65,

Good to see you posting. But, I’m not sure I agree with you I think Canelo will fade after 4 to 5 round from the extra weight loss. He always has a punches chance, but he has to land that big punch that’s going to be his biggest problem. For the other posters that think that Floyds low punch output will keep Canelo comfortable, again I must disagree. If Floyd potshots Canelo and build a lead Canelo will have to work very hard to try and win rounds, Canelo’s connect percentage will have to be high. This is very unlikely against Mayweather, since his main tool in his fights is his defense. So to offset the missed punches high punch output will have to be high if he has any chance of winning. His other option in my opinion and I think his best chance of winning is the load up and land big early.

spartacus 65

Good evening gentlemen. You soldiers have pretty nice insights there. The last several posts were good reads. My personal opinion is that Canelo is going to bring a combination of smart pressure with a underrated cerebral game. Meaning dont be suprised if he counters the counter puncher with eye opening success. He will lay some traps and definitely look to exploit Mayweathers very open midriff as Mayweather looks to throw his right hand. I don’t go by the Guerrero fight. Mayweather loomed food due to who he had in front of him. He HAS AGED. He has slowed down. His father being back lent more footwork once again to his game but the openings ARE THERE. Very much so. Duran was right. Mayweather is fortunate that really GOOD capable contenders haven’t been around to put him to the test. Canelo MAY be that fighter. Im not so certain. However what I am certain of is that Delahoya has surely given Canelo valuable input as to what makes Floyd tick. I expect to see quite a bit of feints from Canelo. As I said before his conditioning will be the determining factor as to how this bout will unfold. Good atuff gentlemen. Cheers

Posted September 2, 2013 12:28 am

Fighting Words…. Exactly what I’ve been saying all along. Canello may have stamina issues, but ti’s not like he’s facing a windmill 100 punches around guy, he may get tired if he chases Floyd too much, but, that’s not really alverezs game.. This fights gonna be a chess match.

Posted September 1, 2013 11:49 pm

Fighting Words

Correction! Mayweather throws 30 to 40 punches a round, those are just not enough punches to give anyone a problem with stamina

Posted September 1, 2013 11:42 pm

Fighting Words

People have been saying that stamina will be a problem for Canelo, but they should realized that Mayweather only throws about 50 punches a round and those will be pot shots. I don’t think Canelo will have a problem with stamina in this fight. I certainly don’t see Mayweather will pressure Canelo so he can worn him down for the later rounds.

Posted September 1, 2013 11:39 pm

I do agree with you though. When will age catch up, is his pain or punch resistance still the same. But what we have learned from Hopkins is if you live the right life with not blowing up in weight, abusing your body you can have a longer than normal fighting life

Posted September 1, 2013 10:03 pm

Yeah, remember after that fight everybody said his legs where shot and he couldn’t move around anymore? What did he do against Guerrero. Now in no way am I saying they are the same fighter because they aren’t. But it showed he can move and stay off the ropes. When was the last time you seen Floyd get caught with more than 2 punches in combination? Canelo doesn’t cut the ring off. He still follows fighters around. That won’t work against Floyd.

Posted September 1, 2013 10:01 pm

Overall, the most dangerous thing Canelo brings is those brutal combination attacks which Older fighters tend to have trouble with.

Posted September 1, 2013 9:00 pm

There still is an issue with age: 36 years old is still not young anymore for a fighter. Stamina can decline, the ability to absorb punishment can decline, recovery can decline…you just overall decline with age. And a young fighter who isn’t intimidated can try to exploit that if he finds ways to. Fight smart, increase the pressure, and see if the Older fighter can still hang in the later rounds.

Posted September 1, 2013 8:37 pm

If there is something Canelo brings that is better than Cotto it is speed and the ability to unleash incredible combinations that vary in punches which can be a real problem if Floyd decides to fight like he did against Cotto and stay near the ropes and more flat-footed. But, I can see Floyd fighting like he usually does when his Father is there…Stick and Move and more Jabs. His toughest fights have been when Sr. is not there. Jr. starts to fight more like Roger which is great for the fans but not so great for him.

Sr. doesn’t have to train him, he just has to be in the gym to remind him of how he should be fighting.

Posted September 1, 2013 8:35 pm

And Bears if he is such a beast why does he only have 1 true 154 pound fighter on his resume. He looks like a beast because he fight Blown up Jr WW and WW. Trout was his first real 154 pound fighter. And there are many people who felt he lost that fight

Posted September 1, 2013 8:06 pm

No Bears you knowing boxing doesn’t scare me at all. Floyd losing doesn’t scare me at all. Yes I am a Floyd fan but I’m gonna enjoy the fight. If he loses then he loses. But if he wins all y’all Floyd haters will be on here saying it was too early for Canelo to be fighting Floyd, Floyd cherry picked Canelo. The ref didn’t let Canelo do what he wanted

Posted September 1, 2013 8:03 pm

I didn’t say it wasn’t competitive. Cotto has a much different jab that Canelo. He throws it a couple of different ways. Canelo throws his jab pretty much one way. That’s not gonna help him.

Hmmm, Shattered dreams, thats possible due to Canelos conditioning in my view to be the determining factor. If he,Canelo that is, hasn’t upped his conditioning then yes that is a real poasibilty. If on the other hand he has, then he can pick up where Delahoya left off and finish the job.
About Delahoya, if he seems over the top remember soldier, he is the peomkter and that’s what thise fellows do. Think of Don King and you catch the drift. Its strictly business and hyperbole to sell this fight. Appreciate your perspective friend. Cheers captain.

It’s understandable that Oscar is trying to sell this fight but i think he needs to be a little more realistic or even subtle in assesing Canelo’s chances in this fight.

Posted September 1, 2013 7:10 pm

spartacus 65

Bears, shout out to you champ. Yes that is a possibility. All it takes is a defensive misstep and a well timed shot delivered to the sweet spot to do it. This is a young mans sport and eventually the refkexes lose their precision and reaction time for the best of them. In this sport or any contact sport for that matter anything is possible. This could be Mayweathers Roy Jones moment where he gets dropped with one shot and its a wrap or it goes the distance in a lukewarm contest. Canelo does habe explosive combination punching when he lets his hands go and his skill level though still a work in peobress, is underrated. He adapts quickly. I want to see Canelo three fights down the road. He has pretty good potential to be a domunant fivhter for awhile. Cheers soldier.

Urone 2 good evening. What you stated in your last post is precisely the reason I will not spend one CENT on this fight. It is very likely that this will be young Canelos last fight at this weight. Its very obvious like Thomas Hearns before him, Canelo has starved himself to in some cases his detriment, down to a division he jas outgrown. Perhaps he will be in the best shape he can possibly be in but this has the smell of win or lose, “I hit the jackpot” ALL over it. This so called superfight is garnering a lot of attention and im sure all parties involved will do quite well financially. Mayweather is ready to cash out shortly and Canelo wi.s regardless of the outcome. He gains experience and a big payday win or lose. I will wait till it is rebroadvast on showtime. The bout that really gets my blood going is the runner up to the main event. Garcia and Mattysse. I suspect strongly a Mattysse victory but Garcia is no push over. If Garcia has the fire power to gain Mattysse respect then this will be very interesting. If not then it will probably be a short night dor Garcia. Cheers my friend, peace and strength.

i think there is a good chance floyd is on his way to being stopped. CANELO is an absolute BEAST!!!

Posted September 1, 2013 6:52 pm

Shatterd Dreams

Oscar is really overselling Canelo, Alvarez is a solid fighter but he’s not quite the dynamo that De La Hoya suggests. Canelo has been taken the full 12rds by lesser fighters then Floyd Mayweather yet Oscar will have us believe that Mayweather is on his way to getting knocked out.

Posted September 1, 2013 6:48 pm

peej- what fight were you watching when floyd vs cotto was on? cotto had a very good showing. in fact thats the last real fight floyd had. guerrero is absolute garbage who still has not fought because when he does fight again at 147 (which it would be a huge mistake for him to fight at 147) it willl be shown that this dude never even needed exposing. that we all knew (all of us that know boxing) guerrero was not that good.

floyd even hurt his hand and his dad laughed saying this fights already done anyway. You better hope your boy doesnt get hurt again on the 14th or it will be over quick for him.

I cant wait for this fight. Its definitely gonna be fight of the decade. Even at the bs advantage mayweather catchweight this mayweather is still GETTING SMOKED!!! You heard it here FIRST!!!! What scares peej is he knows I actually know boxing.

Posted September 1, 2013 6:44 pm

SEPTEMBER 14, floyd era ends and the new cash cow says hello to all of you that cant see it coming. PEEJ never calls fights right he just goes with his bias.

the power and the combinations will be the stoppage loss for floyd. I think canelos stamina will be shored up and he will be able to pour it on thick for all 12 rounds if need be but i dont think it will be needed. theres a good chance this will be floyds first stoppage loss.

This is without a doubt floyds toughest opponent to date and this guys gonna win. floyd is gonna get jacked up. and guys like peej wont know what to do. or they will come on here like after canelo vs trout and actually try to make a case that trout won. HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH!!!! canelo scares these floyd sack garglers to death.

When is Canelo ever light on his feet? Oscar is so envy of Floyd he just talks out of his bHole

Posted September 1, 2013 5:36 pm

Peej… Yes, Cotto lost a UD to Floyd, but to answer your question ” What did Cotto do?” Well, even in losing, he showed that Floyd could be hit fairly easy with a good stiff, strait jab, which Canello has, he showed that Floyd could be tagged with a good strait left, which the kid has, and he showed, contrary to popular belief, that it doesn’t take equal speed to land on Floyd. Yep, a shop warn, and previously KTFO’d 2x Miguel Cotto ( Wait Floyd says he only fights the best) I believe, was able to force Floyd to ” Give the fans the fight they wanted to see”. Not taking anything away from Cotto, he’s a warrior, but for me, I can’t help but think Canello Alverez, being a younger, stronger, better defensive, more accurate version of Cotto, cant help but be more than competative, but who knows.. Maybe myself, and the VEGAS odds makers got it all wrong!

Posted September 1, 2013 5:24 pm

If Cotto was stronger younger he would have hurt Floyd . Canelo will put the same pressure on Floyd and his head is going to be in the 2 row of seats next to Richard Shaffer and Oscar de la hoya seat . You will see . Like Zab super jhuda was abel to drop $ MAY CANELO will drop him as well . This time Roger will not be getting in the ring do and act like his old ass still can fight . this is only going to be $may reality check the same way it was when Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver got a hold of Roy Jones and Jones also taught he was super man and untouchable. There is always a better stronger fighter out there . Don’t forget ……

Posted September 1, 2013 5:11 pm

What exactly did Cotto do? Floyd had a bloody nose. This is a fight. You are going to get hit. That is when you know you are a great fighter, when people make a bloody nose out to be a big thing. Floyd beat Cotto handily.

Posted September 1, 2013 4:43 pm

He needs to use his weight advantage cut the ring of and go to the body use his power and keep his body weight on him when he has him on the ropes and keep his hands busy . This is a rematch of Merrick Taylor vs Chavez faster Taylor vs stronger Chavez we cud see the same results Canelo exposing a older boxer . Money may finally cud not pick eazy opponents thanks to showtime boxing and money may new contract . This will be the biggest strongest fighter he had ever been in the ring with bigger better stronger than Miguel Cotto and we seen what Cotto did to him. We are all going to see a expose Money May and a hungry young fighter that is the feature in boxing . Thank you for taking the time to read my prediction for the fight . we will soon see the results …..

urone2-Good post Brother, you may be spot on. I didn’t see that scenario, but now that you mention it, that could very well be the case. He has been catching Hell making 154, so moving up to MW is inevitable. Since this will be his last fight at 154 he may as well cash out, win or lose, and move on with his career at 160 where there are plenty more lucrative fights to be made.

No bigger but with Canelos stamina issue i see a stoppage. Not a KO but more like the corner throwing in the towel from the punishment being dished out. I see Canelo being tired by the 7th or 8th and from then on there Floyd will be connecting with some punishment.

Posted September 1, 2013 12:01 pm

Peej I honestly dont see a Money stoppage, history says he only KO’s guys his size or smaller, If any bigger I cant think of any,can you?
a wide points win with Money taking control after 7 rounds when Canelo is gassed, maybe that is what he will bring different,a full tank?

Posted September 1, 2013 11:59 am

Done Deal your right Trout was by no means Money, what I meant was maybe he will bring something different that us and Money aren’t expecting and maybe something Money hasn’t anticipated for, like Trout never expected that kinda head movement, any ideas what he might try different fella’s?

@Kornerman this is true and I agree but Trout is by no means a PBF and Trout in my opinion never had Canelo in trouble so there was no pressure on Canelo.

And Oscar is a kiss ass for anyone fighting Mayweather. He has much more hate for PBF than he admitted in episode 1. Words are whispers actions are screams.

Fighters dont just switch their style and technique in one. It takes time and they usually go back to what they know as soon as they get in trouble. If Canelo tries do implement techniques that he has not mastered for the first time vs. the best fighter in the world I dont feel he would be successful.

Posted September 1, 2013 10:21 am

pugfan exactly sir playing the movers game needs maximum stamina and from what we’ve seen Canelo gets tired just shuffling around the ring to the point where he has to ration his punches, his best chance is to timeone of moneys lead hooks or straights and nail him with a hard counter, if anyone can Canelo can but I still think Money is too good.

Posted September 1, 2013 10:21 am

if Canelo tries to be lighter on his feet by dancing around or trying to use finesse he may gas out even sooner?

Canelo is going to make good money on this fight win or lose( I believe lose) and move up to middleweight. He’s working to hard to make 154 and as a growing young man has out grown the weight class. I think this is just a money fight for Canelo, pad the pockets and move on.

So Canelo is going to try and out-foot-work Floyd? Canelos best chance is in trying to toe step Floyd. Kid is strong, can crack and just has to be relentless. Trying to stick with Floyd on skill is silly…for Canelo he should be trying to employ will…as much of it as he can…for 36 minutes.
