Lomachenko is accustomed to being an amateur world champion. The thinking here is that it will not be long before he wears the mantle of a professional world champion and along with it, a popularity that will rival that of GGG—and this also could be great news for HBO if it is able to feature him in his quest for a rapid climb to the top

As the Klitschkos move into the winter of their careers, a Kazakh middleweight, a Russian light heavyweight, and a Ukrainian might well fill the void.

Don’t bet against his not being handsomely rewarded as an amateur.

Lomachenko probably should have turned pro after the Beijing Olympics since it would be 4 more years of pro paydays and he’s likely be a world champion already. That said, Jonathan Oquendo (23-3, 16 KOs) as his first opponent suggests they’ll have him on a fast track. No cherry picking drunken bums like so many other Olympians. Should be interesting.

Giving him the key, makes it much easier for him.

I bet that most of the ” critics ” of Lomachenko , have probably never even seen him fight . They just like to blurt out stupid stuff to make themselves feel important . Say what you want about his first choice of opponent , but you
can’t say Lomachenko is cautious ! Is it too much so early in the game ? Maybe , but then Wasyl is no ordinary amateur trying to break into the
pros . We shall ALL soon see , if this is a flash in the pan , or a real champion !
Having watched his career for years , I am convinced that Lomachenko , will
not only win this fight , but go on to become a world champion , like his
fellow Ukrainian countrymen ; the Klitchkos !

Wow, big props. As Rigo also showed, these top amateurs don’t generally need long, drawn out “build ups” to get to title level… though jumping straight into a 10 rounder against a massively dangerous opponent like this is very, very damn brave.

no clue

just checked out this guy Oquendo more closely.. .. jees.. that’s a wrong kind of bastard to fight in your fight fight.. even if Lomachenko wins it will be a tough fight where he will have to take a lot of shots to pull through… he does not have the type of ko power is his right hand Rigo has iin his left so he will have a tough time keeping this rican off him

no clue

compare this to Jon Shy Mean from China who fought a total bum in his first fist and pulled in like 400 k for hitting a punching bag for 4 rounds .. that said .. they are talking a big step up here

Funny stuff and what a contrast. You have Lomachenko going up against a very dangerous contender/former champion on a viscous KO streak, in his very first fight and Mayweather is still running from Pcaquiao in 2013. How’s that for perspective?

If he comes through this with flying colours we might well be looking at a record breaking run to a title shot, maybe less than 8 fights, this guy really is something special.

Killing Moon The Soothsayer

Talk about a make or break fight….Even the mighty Rigo took on a couple of tomato-cans…I don’t get this…There’s alot of new stuff for Lomachenko to get used to…And you’re gonna throw him in with someone proven in pro-fight game first fight? 10 rounds ? I don’t like this move even if Lomachenko wins…Stupid.

The only way he is gonna win is if oquendo takes a dive wrong move for a debut fight oquendo only lost to wilfredo Vasquez jr juanma lopez n there both former champs oquendo is even more hungry expect oquendo to ko this guy and end his career before it begins

Vasyl Lomachenko.., I’ve been awaiting his pro debut for some time. I expect him to have a pro career something along the lines of Sergei Kovalev.

Looking forward to seeing this guy in the professional game. Always interesting to find out whether a great amateur can translate his ability to the pro’s.
