Right… Boxtra made another wild guess and went wtih Oosthuiszen…When he obviously knew nothng about him or Gonzales.

Virgil Hunter is not a guy to overmatch his fighter.. However I felt he should have been telling Brandon not to step around the ring so much and keep the pressure on. Every time he started stepping around he allowed Oos to get into a rhythm and sometimes take back control.. I know it’s your first 10 round fight but keep the pressure on and fight at an optimal range for yourself… If you want to take a round off stay outside his range and defend well, like Canelo did with Trout when he was way ahead.. Gonzales was way ahead and should have shut the door on Oosthuiszen.

I scored it 6 rounds to 3 with on even for Gonzales. Two judges were idiots.

TOO bad that Hopkins ducked Toney. He continues to call Hopkins out to this DAY. Not a casual fan friendly fight but a Fight that should have been made regardless.

Posted June 29, 2013 10:41 pm

I will say this… The money issue for the original Hopkins-Calzaghe fight wasn’t what B-Hop had been told… So I’ll excuse that one… B-Hop has generally fought all comers.. Roy Jones ducked Tarver for years, and B-Hop fought Tarver at 41 with one leap from 160 to 175.

Posted June 29, 2013 10:10 pm

@Boxer…. YOU missed the whole point of what I said… It’s like you’re in Zu Zu Land… My point is that Floyd fought everyone who was available who was the most logical opponent at the time… He fought more great opponents than anyone else.. I proved to you that De La Hoya ducked his most dangerous opponent, which was Winky Wright, who was ready, willing, and able to kick DLH’s rear end to unify 154…

What is Floyd doing right now??? Unifying 154 with the best possible opponent even though he’s a much smaller guy. Sugar Shane and Oscar also ducked Mayweather when they were younger — as you well know.. Hopkins had a fight all but signed for Calzaghe and backed out.. Trinidad ducked out of a Forrest fight before Shane fought Forrest, who he’d been ducking for a while.

Squared-Circle Real Talk (a.k.a. The Lion King of Beat Street)

Keep hiding behind those shades, Floyd. You won’t let Canelo see that anxiety and fear in your eyes until your face-to-face in the ring on Fight Night.

One thing is for sure: Canelo does NOT fear FMJ. He may get outboxed by FMJ on the cards, but would beat him to death him in a street fight with no rules. Real talk.

How dense are you?

@tark, you missed the whole point of what I said I wasn’t comparing oscar to Floyd I was saying true champions fight everyone and styles make fights yes Williams lost to Quintana but Floyd didn’t beat him , margarito can be whatever but he was available Floyd didn’t take that fight, Floyd is great but you can’t make an argument Floyd is number 1 on the p4p list he can have anyone in the ring that he wants forget about money prove your great all I’m saying Oscar, bhop,Tito, sugar Shane,I hate to say it pacman,Andre ward, they fight anyone and everyone money wasn’t an issue to these guys they wanted to prove that their the best at any risk or cost Floyd doesn’t have that quality you can’t lie to yourself yes he’s fought some of the best but diffenitly NOT all that was available to them.

Posted June 29, 2013 5:51 pm

Canelo is a great combination puncher, such as Floyd never met in his life before…

Maybe you didn’t see Canelo’s blazing fast, destructive combinations he dealt to Josesito Lopez.. You know the guy who stopped Victor Ortiz by breaking his jaw.. Well.. Canelo overpowered and floored Lopez several times… always finishing up with a brutal liver shot… I think he wanted the fight to go a little longer because he took a little off the shots.

Floyd has never seen hand speed or combinations anything close to that except for when Zab Judah caught him with a flurry and put Floyd on the canvas with a glove touch for an obvious knockdown — and Zab was winning the fight after 4 rounds.

Unfortunately Judah was a 4-round fighter in those days, who even gave up early in his fight with slow-as-molassas Carlos Baldomir.. The only fight Zab ever really fought was against Danny Garcia.

Tap it then boxtradamus. Hit it and quit it unless she’s hot like hayden panitierre don’t let it go. Canelo needs to light floyd up wenever he is stationary with combos. Ideally, canelo gets floyd stuck on the ropes or in the corner. I’m fine with weigh ins being the day before and if you make weight than its all good. There is no check and mate its just views and opinions. No right and wrong. Whoever it was that said check and mate is a total SACK AND SHAFT. Lol

Canelo did the dipsey doodle against Cotto

Posted June 29, 2013 5:15 pm

Bears if you make the weight on fight night then great no problem. To make weight he night before the balloon up to 30 pounds heaver means you did not make the weight. Making weight means I fight you at 147 fight night I weigh 147. Not fight night I weigh 172 check and mate.

Posted June 29, 2013 5:14 pm

Archie Moore said…, “The hardest thing for a boxer to learn is instinctively following up a hard effective punch that hurts his opponent.. It takes many years of experience to develop your killer instinct — and immediately send in more smashing blows to finish him off.. You tend to just stand there and watch your opponent stagger all over the ring, or fall down before you hit him again.. The crowd is screaming.. The blood thristy screams actually put you off a bit.. The crowd has a stronger killer instinct then you do, and you may not want to satisfy their blood lust … So while you’re thinking about all this, your opponent recovers in a flash, and your chance to finish him off is gone… Instead of that happening you have to smash him right into the canvas.”

Posted June 29, 2013 5:09 pm

Canelo can do a lot of damage with a pot shot Boxtra… Just like Floyd did the dipsy doodle against Shane Mosley … Austin Trout did the dipsy-doodle against Canelo.

That is… Austin was doing a pretty good dipsy-doodle until he crashed to the canvas for the 1st time in his life.

Posted June 29, 2013 4:51 pm

Another guy Hearns and Leonard ducked.. Mike McCallum.. Both at Super Welterweight and Middleweight.

Posted June 29, 2013 4:47 pm

Canelo’s most useless weapon will be his combination punching. Mayeeather doesn’t get hit with many combinations. His opponents land LESS than 1 out of every 5 punches they throw. SO Canelo had better take my advice and focus on potshotting.

Posted June 29, 2013 4:41 pm

@Boxer…, Floyd fought everyone who was available.. Tszyu was on the self with injuries for 2 years, and then lost to Hatton … Williams lost to Carlos Quintana at a point that fight could have been made … Cheato never beat anyone, couldn’t even beat Williams when he was probably cheating. Plus he only beat Cotto by cheating—the rematch and Mosley fight proved it … Floyd challenged Mosley and De La Hoya when they were both 154-pound champions and Floyd was a Lightweight. They wouldn’t fight Floyd … Pacquiao could have had a Floyd fight by agreeing to reasonable terms, and he didn’t have a chance anyway…

This is a FAR cry from Oscar De La Hoya fighting Yory Boy Campas instead of unifying the title with fellow 154lb Champion Winky Wright..

A FAR cry from Ray Leonard refusing to fight Michael Nunn, Mike McCallum, or Julian Jackson—when they were the 3 Middleweight Champions of the World who each won pieces of the title stripped from Leonard… Leonard WAS fighting as a middleweight—but Leonard went down to 154 to avoid these guys.. He fought Terry Norris—who had been crushed by Jackson.

A FAR cry from Tommy Hearns, who was beaten by Iran Barkley twice, the 1st time when Tommy was 29 years old… Hearns wouldn’t DREAM of fighting Nigel Benn… James Toney… Sumbu Kalambay… Michael Nunn… or Reggie Johnson. They whipped Barkley with ease, but Hearns or Steward wouldn’t consider a discussion about fighting them.

Ducking is in the eye of the beholder. You have to understand who was worthy … who was trying to make worthy fights … and who wasn’t.

It was canelo vs mosely that was hbo with steward commentating not canelo vs lopez

Posted June 29, 2013 4:23 pm

I think canelo lays it all out and leaves it all in the ring. I think that if he senses he’s loosing he’s gonna just blitz mayweather. He may do that anyway. Mayweather has to be favored. But I’m taking canelo to win. I’m taking the upset. Mayweather has to be favored if there’s bunk judging and if there’s a controversy. I would be remiss if I didn’t say I’m concerned about such intangibles/variables as judgin and controversy like the ortiz fight

Posted June 29, 2013 4:04 pm

“If canelo was a true fighter” that’s a subjective opinion about what defines a “true fighter”. Me prsonally if a guy can make weight he can fight at that weight. I have no problem with it. Mayweather is getting abit of a taste of his own medicine. I draw parallels in terms of the weight issue from may vs jmm and may vs canelo. We see this difference in weight a lot at heavyweight. I’m totally fine with it. I wanna see may fight ggg, martinez (if his body can hold up), and mathysee. And that’s if canelo doesn’t whoop his first. If canelo does whoop his ass by all means canelo can do it again.

Posted June 29, 2013 3:54 pm

Losing weight isn’t a Big feat to me. WINNING the Fight is the feat. No one remembers who made weight. They remember the WINNER. Juan Manuel Lopez says that I am CORRECT on that.

Posted June 29, 2013 3:49 pm

Canelos bigest weapon is his power and combos. The weights not his biggest weapon. Just like it wasn’t when he faced trout. It was his badass defense, his combos, and his trout dropping for the first time power. Like emanuel steward said. Canelos power is what’s mot remarkable and I agree. U can watch the hbo telecast of canelo vs lopez on youtube. Great commentating by the hbo crew. I think showtimes crews are utter garbage. Epix with dan rafael, fred roach, lou dibella etc is awesome too. I hate showtimes commentators. I even like the skysports commentators/analysts. So in closing I would say canelos biggest asset is his power folllowed by his combos and body shots followed by his matrix defense he put on trout dodging trouts punches like neo dodged bullets in the matrix. Lol. BADASS!

Posted June 29, 2013 3:48 pm

Bears when 22yr old 172 pound Canelo. Point still remains Canelo depends on his weight to be his biggest weapon not his skills. If Canelo was a true fighter he would fight at the correct weight 167 to 174 his true divsions but we all know he would get knocked out every fight so he hangs out at 154 piling up wins on much smaller guys. More chump than Champ.

Posted June 29, 2013 3:25 pm

Boxer not everything your saying is accurate, Floyd called all out these guys problem is a lot of them didn’t want to deal with him. Like Cotto was with Arum that’s why the fight didn’t happen until he left, Mosley ran Dela Hoya was the highest grossing fight in history, And Mageheato on my God he destroyed Cotto with plaster in his gloves that was a bullet dodged. Hatton, Ortiz, Judah Corrales all prime fighters all whipped. Arum talks a lot of bs, but he will never allow his fighters to match with MW like pac man and Tim Bradley, there is more to boxing than saying I was to fight a guy fights don’t get made because of greedy promoters, Ask Benard Hopkins, and the man who speaks up is the one that no one wants to deal with or labled as scarred Like Floyd…

Posted June 29, 2013 3:22 pm

I love Floyd his skills are amazing but he does cherry pick their is no way around it he did not always fight the best out there, example de la Hoya fought Chavez, Whitaker,Hopkins,Trinidad, prime Mosley, mayweather, gatti,Vargas, pacquiao, im sorry but Floyd chose cotto late, Mosley late, didn’t fight pacman, didn’t fight margarito, didn’t fight Martinez, didn’t fight Williams, those are all fights that were there for him again I’m not a hater I’m stating facts I’ve been a fan of the sport since a kid and I’ve seen true champions fight everyone! And anyone! , I mean they accuse the klitchkos of cherry picking but that’s the same thing that Floyd does, win or lose those fights those fights are what determinds greatness!

Posted June 29, 2013 3:09 pm

If your walk around weight is 180 and you have an in shape body like canelo ad you can make 152-154 your pretty badass as far a I’m concerned. Draining almost 30 pounds is UNREAL.

Posted June 29, 2013 2:46 pm

Public E.., “What if Canelo looks unimpressive?? What if Mayweather Boxes his ears off as easily as he Boxed off Gurerreros?? Just askin..”

Never going to happen… Canelo is 10 times the boxer Guerrero is.

It wasn’t the first time Guerrero looked beaten up.. He’s a brawler.. He was kept in check by Robert Byrd in his Floyd fight—but the inept Berto, who lost to the cowardly quitter Victor Ortiz—almost ripped Guerrero’s head off with some of those uppercuts and right hooks—whenever Berto was able to pull an arm free.. I’m sure if Berto had Robert Byrd working for him Guerrero would have been DQ’d—or Byrd would have prevented Robert From Greco-Roman wrestling with point deductions … and RG would have lost a boxing match.

But as to your question… It will be better if Floyd finally wins an exciting touch-and-go fight—such as the Cotto fight almost was… Otherwise people will keep bring up Paul Williams, Cheato, Martinez, Tzsyu—and other names who Floyd would have beaten far easier than Canelo. As if any fighter in history ever fought every possible opponent.

Never happened… The 2 biggest duckers in history were Leonard and Hearns.

@ Taychon…that would automatically eliminate about 98% of boxing and mma then!

Posted June 29, 2013 2:00 pm

Only thing Canelo has is weight this fight will show Mayweather can beat a light heavy weight. If your walk around wight is 180 your should not be allowed to fight lower than 167. Lucky Mayweather is skilled for the other not as skilled fighters Canelo has feasted on the weight gave him the advantage which no different than using peds or blood doping. Boxing needs to be fixed sport is dropping to the levels of Pro wrestling.

Posted June 29, 2013 1:58 pm

No disrepect to Canelo fans but Canelo is too young, not even close to his prime and will lose to Floyd.

Posted June 29, 2013 1:57 pm

El Mariachi

I want Canelo to win, but I’m realistic. Canelo is a decent fighter and exciting to watch, but Money is the best. I just don’t see Canelo doing anymore than Cotto did. Lara is the only one that could make it a closer fight with Money, but most ppl would fall asleep by the time the fight is over. Only way to defeat Money is to knock him out, but he’s too cautious to ever get himself into such predicament.

Posted June 29, 2013 1:55 pm

I’ve been watching boxing many decades, and I don’t see anything that Canelo does which makes him a threat to Mayweather. The fight may provide the evidence I need, but until then, I don’t believe that Canelo is a danger to Floyd’s perfect record.

Posted June 29, 2013 1:50 pm

Listen. Mayweather never faced Pac man a few years back and never will or faced Sergio Martinez. End of story. And Floyd was WAY bigger than Marquez who is Pac Man’s size. IF FLOYD was great he would fight Martinez and then GGG. Floyd is that size a fighter. So is Canelo but both can stay in safe waters where there at. Hell Canelo is looking up at Floyd

Posted June 29, 2013 1:41 pm

Mma fighter

Canelo is Floyd’s toughest fight yet .i don’t care who wins just glad to see him fight somebody worth fighting . Then I think PAC and Sergio after those fights he won’t want to fight any more. I think cotto is showing may up by fighting Sergio cotto comes to fight and isn’t scared to fight win or lose not many fighter like that any more .

Posted June 29, 2013 1:24 pm

big mike

Even if Floyd wins by KO his detractors will still label him a ” cherry picker.” This is just the reality of boxing fans. Most if not all great fighters are not considered that until their time has passed. Which points to just how great a fighter Floyd is. His name is already tossed around as a GOAT while he still is a p4p champ. That being said he’s always one loss away from his haters false claim that he never was that great. The fact is he could retire today and 10 years from now he would still be the Michael Jordan of boxing. Remember, prize fighters fight for money, and that’s his middle name. Well its his self proclaimed middle name. I know I’m rooting for him. USA all the way.

Posted June 29, 2013 12:50 pm

What I meant is that Canelo is the only true threat to Floyd, ofcourse they say that about all of his opponents if they don’t and just say this is an easy fight for Floyd would you pay for it? I wouldn’t they have to sell the fight some how but this fight is different it literally sells itself because even the biggest Floyd fans “I’m one of them” know that Canelo is the real deal he’s a superstar, and the only fighter left worthy of challenging Floyd, c’mon Guerrero, that’s like Kobe playing Lil bow wow 1 on 1, easy work, but now Floyd’s backed to the wall and needs this fight more than Canelo, because Floyd hasn’t takin enough risks to be called the best like past fighters have, cause really how would you guys look at Floyd if he finished his career beating maidana, khan, Alexander, ?

Posted June 29, 2013 12:22 pm

Mayweather will win but it will be his toughest fight and for that reason he is considered a G.O.A.T….and Canelo if he competes and looks impressive he will still considered a super star.

Posted June 29, 2013 12:20 pm

“Tark”- I like were very well though out analysis- but I will add one comment- There has been a certain demographic of recent boxing fans that will not doubt flood this comment section once they awake from their slumber who have taken and otherwise mediocore slugger and raise him to the level of supreme being. That would be the fans of one Manny Pacquiao. I have never seen the hopes of so many ride on the proverbial coat tail of a fighter who is forced to represent an entire nation of people, since as you so eloquently mentioned Loius-Schemling. Pac though a good brawler is a very flawed fighter, and an even more flawed individual- something he himself has admitted- You could tell by the contradictions you saw of him, once threatened by his wife with divorce- he became a cuckolded shell of the the man and fighter he once was. You saw him going from Bible study to the shooting range- if ever there were a more compelling contradiction of faith and moral value, i have not seen it. So in some instances the weight of a people and entire nation is still be placed upon the backs of men who are not worthy and or able to hold up to the expectations placed upon them– We should see them for what they are– men will to kill and or be kill for our entertainment- Gladiators and nothing more- we should not make them into things that they are not, and we should not place upon the responsibilities in which they are not capable of living up to. Lets watch them fight, and once the fight is over let’s move on.

Posted June 29, 2013 12:03 pm

Boxer, same thing you said about Canelo was said about many of Floyd’s opponents before Floyd beat them. These are all opinions, not fact. Like Floyd told Ortiz before their fight, it all looks easy until you get in the ring. I don’t believe the fight will even be close.

Posted June 29, 2013 10:58 am

Floyd hasn’t fought a fighter like Canelo ever, let’s be real Ortiz, Guerrero, cotto was never the same fighter after margarito and pacquiao fights,he did beat Marquez but remember styles make fights, another thing at Floyd’s level he shouldn’t be fighting these guys, their was lots of top fights for him ,pacquiao, Martinez, he didn’t ever fight Paul Williams, and because he didn’t fight those guys he’s pretty much forced to face Canelo, Canelo could box not like Floyd but you don’t beat Floyd that way anyway, he can close distance, he has good timing, good head movement, really precise puncher and I guarantee that when they fight he won’t be swinging for the fences early on caus let’s remember the trout fight was personal for him, I give mayweather a slight edge in this fight its no walk in the park this dog will bite back

Posted June 29, 2013 10:42 am

Tank, you may be right in some respect, but I believe the reason why it’ll be a shocker if Canelo were to win is because Floyd’s easy wins against some top fighters. He made fighters like Marquez, Guerrero, Ortiz and others look like amateurs.

Other than strength, I don’t see Canelo any different than many of previous Floyd’s opponents. Most Canelo’s fans point out about his skills, but one must consider his previous opponents, or his whole career, in perspective when predicting the outcome. Other than Trout, canelo’s resume lacks substance, also the Trout bout would have been a draw if it didn’t take place in San Antonio.

Again, you may be right and Canelo may pull the offset, I just don’t see it. Floyd is going to outbox the guy, frustrate him and make him make him mistakes.

Posted June 29, 2013 9:58 am

Viv says.., “An epic September evening. (And a shocker the morning after when headlines go to print)!”

A Canelo victory wouldn’t be a colossal shock… Floyd isn’t a prohibitive favorite.

Historically we’ve seen upsets like: Jeffries-Johnson… Dempsey-Tunney… Louis-Schmeling… Robinson-Maxim… Liston-Clay… Frazier-Foreman… Ali-Spinks… Griffith-Benvenuti… Benvenuti-Monzon… Duran-DeJesus… Leonard-Norris… Tyson-Douglas… Holyfield-Bowe… Lewis-Rahman… De La Hoya-Mosley… Mosley-Forrest… Wadimir-Sanders… Jones-Tarver… Pacquiao-Marquez… Donaire-Rigondeaux… and dozens of others.

People are less shocked today because we don’t build up demigods the way we did with Jeffries, Dempsey, Louis, Robinson, and even Ali..

If the favorite won every time Boxing wouldn’t be legitimate.. That doesn’t stop the character police from attacking the moral fiber of the fallen… inventing personality defects for them… comparing their unfavorably to past heroes… and condemning their lack of temperament, courage, and fortitude.

Vitriolic pundits will pour out of the woodwork — like they did after LeBron James failed to win an NBA Championship in his 1st year with the Heat.
