Winky was no world-beater during DLH’s golden reign. DROPPED multiple times and defeated by Vasquez; another loss to Simon Brown; outhustled and outpointed by a 17-0 Vargas. not to mention the glaring and cynical transparency of the way Winky avoided tough fights by focusing on padding his resume in Europe. like i said, Winky was no world-beater and did little more than trash-talk up a big payday for himself with virtually no upside for DLH. if he had defeated Winky, who would’ve cared? there was zero demand for that fight, which may have ended up just like Canelo v. Trout: an anticlimactic and lopsided “W” for a prime DLH.

Only reason he sold out the Alamoedome is because a lot of those tickets where being some for $10 and the rest of the tickets where not that expensive. Floyd’s tickets always start about at $1500 and the cheapest always seem to be around $300 or more

Posted June 28, 2013 11:53 am

TARK

Alvarez sold out the Alamodome — fighting a guy who’s style is so boring he makes Bernard Hopkins look like a balls out brawler.

Fighting the undefeated World 154-pound Champion Austin Trout was an extremely similar risk to the one Oscar De La Hoya would have taken had he chosen to unify Super Welter by fighting fellow 154-pound champion Winky Wright — ya know… instead of the beaten down Yory Boy Campus.

Winky…, “Oscar is fighting Yory Boy… What title does he have? It’s a disgrace to be a World Champion and fight guys who are no threat to you.”

I would not be surprised the bulk or all of the tickets were sold to outlets which resells them. This is done to hype the fight and make it seem its bigger than is actually is. Of course tickets will sell, it’s the time frame in which the ticket were “sold.”

The Voice of Boxing

It is obvious that Saul ALvarez is the one driving the sales on this fight. First, he pulled out of Floyd’s fight to show that by being on the undercard he was actually driving Floyd’s sales up especially fighting on days that are significant to Mexicans. Secondly, because the sales for the Guerrrero fight were so small, (they are still searching for them), Floyd had to come down off his high horse and face Canelo. I know Floyd is steaming because he feels he is boxing. I have news for him, boxing survived before when its biggest stars left and it certainly did when he retired.
For the record, I thought Floyd and his followers said that Canelo was not a PPV Star? Would one of you please explain why there is so much buzz about this fight? Floyd has not been outrageous like he normally is. Apart from talking about Manny as he usually does, most of the attraction has been on Canelo. There are more fans everywhere who are screaming for him. So please tell me, why does Floyd always fight on Mexican dates, against Mexican or Latinos and also loads up on Latinos, especially Mexicans? Because he wants to say he is a huge star, that’s why!!!!!

And what is worse is that yes he has more PPV sels at the moment but after this fight Floyd will be leading that race and like I said he has headlined les PPVs that Pac. Plus he makes more money than Pac, is currently undefeated and has also yet to be KOd like Pac. He claimed Pac has a better resume but does not want to challenge himself in naming how he has a better resume. I already know who he is gonna use but he also knows himself that the fighters he is going to name where out of there prime. Oh and by the way Pac pretty much quit agains Agapito Sanchez.

If you see the profile photo of Mayweather and Alvarez, it is obvious that Floyd has a perfectly shaped cranium – and that Alvarez doesn’t – to say the least. This tells me that not only is Floyd the superior athlete (which nobody denies), but that he also has greater cranial capacity. Game over folks. Floyd has superior athleticism as well as intelligence. Alvarez is doomed.

“Floyd is very smart fighting Canelo right now, instead of waiting when Floyd gets a little bit older and Canelo gets better and more in his prime.” – B Red makes a good point. Go against Canelo now while he’s still somewhat green. 1 year from now he’d be stronger and more seasoned. 2 years from now Floyd would be slowing down significantly. So while I doubted this fight would get made this year before it was signed, now is the time that makes sense.

not being elevated to god-like status is the most important factor in favor of Canelo being able to recover from a loss to Floyd, which would be a personal dissapointment but NOT a national disaster. for all the hype about “boxing-crazy Mexico” none of my truly Mexican relatives are staking national pride or integrity on the outcome of this matchup and they’re from the same city and region as Canelo. futbol is the only sport that can generate that type of nationalism among Mexican sports fans. it’s a team and truly international sport that takes place on a literally level playing-field. no tolerance for the promotional antics of Bobfathers or Don Kings in that sport. IMO, even that is a bit silly but if a sport must be a symbol of national pride, then i guess futbol is as good as any.

He’ll be established whether he wins or not… The worldwide publicity for this fight puts Canelo on the map in a big way… Right now he’s being represented as the number 2 P4P boxer in the world… Whether he is or not at the age of 22 is another matter..

The Cinnamon Kid showed versus Mosley and Trout that he’s a thinking boxer — similar to Austin, Haye, Floyd, Ward, Mikey, Vitali, Rigo, Nonito, and B-Hop … This kid is the kind of brainy scientific boxer who will be around for 15 to 20 years — and the kind who, even when suffering defeat, never go through the trauma most boxers suffer in victory.

Marquez will be a 5 division boxing champion, the first Mexican to accomplish this, nice. Manny Pacquiao, the ONLY 8 division boxing champion in history. Manny has already beaten Marquez 3 times and is the ONLY recognized 8 division boxing champion in history. Now that’s nice! Incredibly, I read on yahoo that Manny Pacquiao in early June 2013 had the #1 spot on Yahoo’s trending list, and not just in sports, but in all aspects of life. I continue to be amazed at how Manny Pacquiao continues to grow in popularity throughout the world. This man was not an Olympian, not brought up in a boxing family, had but a few amateur fights, had no education, grew up on the streets in poverty selling anything to make money for his family, no one cared about him. All of this and he becomes the greatest fighter of all times. I’m still in shock. We will never see another fighter or person like Manny Pacquiao. His diversity is one of a kind as are his accomplishments. Now tell me Floyd or any other athlete in the world compares to him in popularity. He is the most loved athlete in the world today bar none.

“The man has been hunting him down with a monastic obsession for a decade..” TITOPA, That’s Right. Marquez became a one-man SEAL Team to hunt down and erase Manny* from the P4P rankings. what does Pacquiao* do? targets a fighter coming off a loss, insists that it take place in China, and declines Marquez’s challenge to meet him in Mexico. conversely, Marquez targets the man who defeated Pacquiao* and thoughtfully offers Manny* the opportunity to redeem the Most Brutal KO in Boxing History. i knew it and posted it all-along: Marquez is the Greate Ring-Warrior and Pacquiao* is proving it.

“It’s no coincidence that Manny[*] Pac[*] Man[*] Pacquiao[*] was voted as the Fighter of the Decade”. the difference between Juan and Manny* is that Marquez used his FIST to declare himSELF “Champion of the Decade”. no better way to take your legacy out of the hands of judges or fanboys than with a KO and by executing the #1 KO in Boxing History, Marquez became Greater than the Pacquiao* who declined Marquez’s thoughtful challenge to do it one more time in Mexico. consequently, we can confidently state that he rivalry is OVER. Tumbo… I don’t think Pacquiao is going near Marquez again… The man has been hunting him down with a monastic obsession for a decade.. If Pac beats Rios and Floyd beats Canelo, May-Pac will happen at long last.

Marquez has a very tough fight ahead of him with the speedy young undefeated Bradley… A victory would make him a rare 5-Division World Champion and the only one in fistic history from Mexico.. To duplicate that feat Canelo would have to win the World Cruiserweight Championship in about 10 or 12 years and every divisional world title in between in the meantime — something that’s not entirely implausible.

Manny’s prime fights vs Floyd’s prime fights can’t even be compared. Manny brings excitement, lightning speed, brutal power and fights in 8 different weight classes. The best athletes, movie stars and political representatives including President Obama tune in to see the man fight. It’s no coincidence that Manny Pac Man Pacquiao was voted as the Fighter of the Decade. People from all walks of life notice Manny Pacquiao’s brilliant performances, win or lose. Floyd Mayweather brings nothing but the same old boring, hit, hold, hug and run. No excitement. Fans always receive their biggest let down once a Mayweather fight begins. They hope, wish and pray that Floyd Mayweather’s fights live up to their expectations, but they never ever do. I don’t blame fans for booing and leaving the arena during the Guerrero fight. Guerrero, a guy that moved up two divisions wanted to fight, but Floyd wanted no part of it. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if the medical facilities get a full load of people the next day to get them over their depression after seeing Floyd fight. He’s not interesting in the least. He’s all about money, materials, ego, me,me,me. People are tired of him. Floyd doesn’t have any endorsements. You know why? He’s boring inside and outside the ring. He’s scared to death of having to fight outside his comfort zone in Las Vegas. We get the same boring 24/7 All Access stuff. Manny is involved in so many areas. He needs a staff of 100 to keep him updated. And he’s also a congressman. Fans love and are impressed watching Manny conquer one thing after another. Manny is an intelligent man that diversifies his life. Simply amazing. And some of you still think Floyd compares in a way to Manny’s accomplishments or achievements inside or outside the ring. SMH! Manny Pac Man Pacquiao is amazing

i agree that Canelo is physically ready for this challenge but his mental capacity will be stretched to breaking point. IMO, Mayweather is the type of resilient fighter who can deal with absolutely everything in an opponent’s arsenal and suddenly (or gradually) turn the tide in a losing effort for the “W”. Canelo’s best shot is v. a faded and/or reckless Floyd, which i’ve yet to see in a boxing ring. the 22-year-old Canelo has got his legacy-defining work cut out for him v. a very experienced and uniquely-talented Mayweather whose seen it all. even with all of Canelo’s natural advantages, a Canelo win would be the biggest upset of 2013 and one of the biggest in recent boxing history.

Posted June 27, 2013 2:09 pm

“The One” is all about being able to enjoy some spectacle on the September 16 weekend and “sold out in less than 24 hours” makes a whole lot of “sense” to “Money”. adequately compensate Mayweather and there is literally no fighter that he won’t face. between 140lbs and 154lbs. in fact, six figures would bait him into a ring v. Martinez at 156lbs and no rehydration clause. if he defeats Canelo, the moment couldn’t be better to pick-off Martinez from the platform of the “Money” train.

“Now that he’s facing top level comp I expect most of his bouts will be big events” IF he continues to win. win or lose, he needs a decent and respectable performance v. Floyd to maintain his promotional momentum. i think that’s fully within his ability to deliver. otherwise, i think that Canelo isn’t completely ready and that this matchup is premature. Floyd agrees, which is why i’m favoring Mayweather to execute another “boring” UD, which will entitle him to easier paydays for the duration of his Showtime contract, e.g., Khan, Garcia, and Pacquiao*.

Btw, Marquez is in the driver’s seat now. Manny Pacquiao is king of PPV world wide. The difference between the two is that everyone loves Pacquiao and comes to see him. In Mayweather’s fights, they can’t stand him and come to see his opponent. Everyone likes to see Good overcome evil. And you just might see this happen in September while in Macau, Good will be redeemed and overcome okay. Just wait and see what Manny’s numbers are in his fight with Rios. You guys will see real drawing power in another Country, something Mayweather is afraid to do. He has to have all his fights in his home town. Seems a bit questionable to me. Like I said, Manny’s popularity around the world and the love people have for him dwarfs Mayweather. Too bad Mayweather, his uncle and his father all were scared of Manny’s power, which was admitted by all three of them on more than one occasion. They sure got brave once Manny got beat. Now they take cheap shots at Manny. Manny is the most beloved boxer of all time. Check out his $ figures by the way. He makes more than Mayweather when it comes to income. Floyd only boxes. Manny has too Manny talents he generates money from. Manny is amazing!

Hecdog – the all sold their highest PPV vs ” Mayweather ” not Pedman, that’s the common factor. Deal with it.

Record breaking numbers, it will be the most watched sports event of the year aside from the superbowl, Floyd will make a cook 100mil off this match and go to the club and party after, Canelo wont be able to land effective enough to make a difference, Another boxing clinic. And people will pay to see it hoping FLOYD looses, it adds to the hype…

And I already know your gonna come out and say Pac has more PpV sells than Floyd but he has also been in more PPVs than Floyd. If you average them out Floyd tops Pac and also has sold more with common opponents except for the last Marquez fight and that was bout by Marquez fans

Funny but that last fight Pac had they where all Marquez fans. And on top of that Floyd has always sold more PPVs than Pac. So that’s a false claim

As usual, Canelo is he draw just like Hatton, Marquez, Oscar, Cotto and Mosely. Guerrero was the draw, and the PPV sunk down quickly. Mayweather can’t draw on his own whatsoever. Manny Pacquiao draws against anyone.
