When you replay this fight, pay special attention to the ring canvas. Is it just me, or doesn’t the look padding thick, which would take away Trout’s foot speed?

Do you see what I’m talking about when you look at the replay with this in mind?

“But a OLD SHOP WORN OUT Past his PRIME caught MAYWEATHER TAG him good. But Shane didnt have the goods to finish Mayweather off”-TRUE. But neither does ANYONE else in the ENTIRE Sport of Boxing. SO I can’t blame HIM. I blame Mayweather’s Defense. Its SO GREAT that all anyone can HOPE for is to TAG him GOOD a couple times and then get outboxed for the Majority of the bout IF they don’t get knocked out. ….Thats why MY EYES are BETTER than YOURS. Because I see when someone gets out Boxed but YOU only see who gets TAGGED GOOD. Thats why you didn’t notice that Shane got out Boxed 11 rds to 1 and you ALOT didn’t notice Trout out Box Canelo for the majority of the Rounds. But that’s OK. Thats why I’m HERE.

But I also don’t get fooled by Name Groupies but YOU DO…Thats why YOUR EYES are LESSER than MINE. Name Groupies fool feeble minded posters like YOURSELF but they don’t fool ME…..I picked Canelo by ROBBERY on the DAY that the Fight was announced and I was CORRECT! !!! And even IF you WERE you’d be MUCH MUCH LESSER than Austin Trout. …Trout threw more AND landed MORE than Canelo. He WON 90% of the Fight based on time. Learn how to watch the Fight without being a FANBOY.

“Canelo’s face was 100% unmarked. ” Sorry, Squared Circle, but you’re wrong. Look at the photos of Canelo’s face after the post-fight press conference. He has a mouse on his cheekbone under his right eye and another starting under his left eye. He has abrasions and redness all over his face due to the punches landed by Trout. That’s hardly 100% unmarked. Too bad the punches weren’t meaningful. The outcome of the fight may have been different.

Long and BUSY day at the office today….and I’m STILL busy. As SOON as I can get more than 5 min free I’m going to SPANK all opposition with the FACTS.

A hundred pitter patter shots don’t mean nothing if your getting knocked down. Also, it depends on what the particular judge favors…the puncher or the boxer (hit and run style)…

Posted April 22, 2013 10:00 pm

Does anybody even know how punch stats work? This is how it goes…One counting person has in there hand a thumb button and they press the button each time they believe a punch is thrown, another presses the button for supposed jabs that land and so on…. Its still controversial because its what they precieve what landed or not… amazing what one thinks and what actually lands!

“Trout threw and landed more punches” according to who? punchstats? TARK, you’re simply blind and need to seriously consider upgrading your glasses instead of relying on that biased and notoriously inaccurate punch counter. in actuality, Trout MISSED about 80% of his punches, which is borne out by the utter lack of evidence on Canelo’s face to indicate ANY contact with Trout’s gloves. not even a single abrasion. “He was also the aggressor most of the way” and whose plan was that? Trout’s? not likely. Canelo was supposed to be the aggressor but successfully flipped-the-script on Trout and forced him to assume the unfamiliar role of “aggressor” with predictable results. he simply couldn’t touch Canelo in that mode while Canelo simply picked and placed his shots. easy, risk-free work for Canelo.

Posted April 22, 2013 7:39 pm

Squared-Circle (a.k.a. LionKing)

TARK: Normally I agree with most of what you say. But I have to disagree with you about how you scored this fight. It was a very close fight, but still a totally legitimate win for Canelo. After viewing it three times, I scored it 114-113 for Canelo. If it weren’t for that knockdown in round 7, it could’ve been a draw. Trout certainly didn’t land any hard, meaningful shots in that fight and this ain’t Olympic boxing. Canelo’s face was 100% unmarked. Even Trout admitted that he lost in the post-fight interview and he knows better than any of us. Trout knows and admits that he got beat. Enough said.

“MY round by round scoring is on the other thread.” What thread? I want to see it.

Posted April 22, 2013 6:51 pm

Tumbo you’re blind with bias… Trout threw and landed more punches. He was also the aggressor most of the way. Alvarez landed better and harder, overall, in some rounds … Not enough to make it the route that 2 judges had it.

Strange comparison referencing the Whitaker and Chavez fight, this was far closer and in fact has largely split opinion. If you think a low workrate and landing a few flashy punches a round is better than outright ring generalship, activity and controlling the round then fine but comparisons like the aforementioned are plain silly and should be kept to yourself. Close rounds in my opinion should be awarded to the fighter that tries to initiate the action not the fighter thats inactive for 2 1/2 minutes of a round, your opinion is no more correct than mine or anyone elses.

Posted April 22, 2013 2:26 pm

In a fight the person who gets beat up more is the loser. If ur a light puncher like Trout u cant get hit to much ala Floyd Mayweather. Trouts activity kept him in the fight but he was beat up worse so he lost. Damage counts more than activity. I wouldve rather been Canelo in the fight he was totally in control.

From rounds 1 – 6 I gave Canelo only 2 then he definitely did nothing in 9 and 12 rounds. Canelo got a gift decision. Thanks to the moronic judges. Mayweather must be really kicking himself for not fighting Canelo in May. Canelo stands no chance against Floyd he misses a lot. Look at 7th round where Canelo got beaten in all the exchanges when looking for that KO. Trout did himself no favours when he did the doodle dance in the 7th when he was clearly winning the fight.

KOnerman Yes glad to see some one agrees with me. Not very many here gave CANELO a chance, all HYPE for trout. But really who has trout fought?? Nobodies. He hits like a girl canelo WALK right threw his punches. canelo put TROUT in DIZZY LAND in the 7th. Canelo hurt him many times in the fight the BIAS commentators for trout said so. Viva Mexico and God bless trout. It was CANELO who ask for the fight. Hes like MAYWEATHER he wouldnt fight a guy if he KNEW he couldnt beat him.

Posted April 22, 2013 3:20 am

Compubox stat, for Canlo Trout, Overall Punches: Trout out-landed Canelo 154 to 124 and was more active, throwing 769 shots to Canelo’s 431;…… So Canelo was far more accurate than Trout, landing 29% to only 20% for Trout. that for me says Caelo deserved, far more economical with punches, Trout landed 30 more but threw more than 300 hundred punches, to me its a testiment to the accuracy of Canelo, like ISG say’s what good is throwing a 800 punches if only 150 f them land, not much im afraid.

Boxtradamus YOU are crafty and good at slipping and DUCKING and MANIPULATING what I said.. Yes Mayweather is GREAT.. But READ what I wrote you DUMB ASS. God are you ever STUPID. Mayweather is a BETTER fighter than MOSLEY will ever be.. But a OLD SHOP WORN OUT Past his PRIME caught MAYWEATHER TAG him good. But Shane didnt have the goods to finish Mayweather off.. Now Deylahoya JAB Mayweathers face off the first 5 rounds of their fight, OLD age caught up to Deylahoya.. Floyd can be beat hes getting OLD now himself, I doubt if he would fight a YOUNG STRONG fast handed BABY BULL at 22 years of age. Just like PacMAN he COWARDLY back away from him, (I dont like Pacman) I truly believe MAYWEATHER would of eaten him alive myself. But CRAFTY Mayweather would NOT fight Pacman in his PRIME to dangerous. Yes I see Good. this CANELO is DANGEROUS heavy hands and MAYWEATHER can be HIT, Old MOSLEY TAG him good. Mayweather is OLD now himself, stands more flat footed. Yes just right for the BABY BULL young strong gun, with HEAVY HANDS. But that FIGHT will never happen, MAYWEATHER will dodge him like he did with PacMan. Yeah I SEE GOOD.

Boxtra, compubox is stat’s and its no surprise a stst man like yourself goes with that but as the article explains a fight is not solely judged on the number of punches landed and doesn’t tell the full story of a fight, proved in the Canelo vs Trout fight, yes Trout landed 30 odd more pitter patter punches but it was Canelo who’s shots were actually doing the damage and he looked dominent when Trout was doing a funny dance, Compubox DOES NOT record these FACTS and I for one am glad Trout never managed to “shoe shine ” his way and steal a victory.

Christodoulou is a joke and shouldn’t get to judge such a big fight again he was obviously bribed or something, Canelo deserved to win but 118-109 is a joke It was as near a draw as ever I seen one, Canelo just edging it with the clean power shots and the knock-down.

TARK, sounds like sour grapes. otherwise, any objective fight-fan would agree that it was an expert, resourceful, economical, and winning performance by Canelo. precisely what his record of 40+ fights would indicate, i.e., he’s not “hype” and he proved it v. a big, strong, and talented southpaw. a score of 116-111 is only accurate. despite the size advantage, Trout could simply not reach Canelo.

Posted April 22, 2013 12:37 am

Peter Rivera again you have spoken like a person that knows very little about boxing. Lineage has very little to do with being highly successful in boxing as there are WAY more boxers that had no linage in boxing in them and became hall of famers. As a matter fact it’s almost unseen to be in the hall of fame with a sibling. Benitez is in the hall of fame. Dont dare to put them in the same sentence! You talk that boxing is about craft but for the love of God CANELO is a hyped fighter who as of yesterday with 41 victories had fought NOBODY!!!!! He has an inflated record by fighting bums, shot fighters and lower weight class fighters!! Who has he fought before last night? Who??? And you are talking linage? Benitez is in the hall of fame and Canelo can not be further from it. Learn and study boxing before u write your fact less comments. I’m done with you.

Posted April 21, 2013 11:59 pm

Boxing is not about race , color or ethnicity. It is about the craft and the degree to which a boxer has potential, talent and honing of skills. I observe from that viewpoint and am no fan of any boxer. Truth is that Benitez had all that. What he did not have were other people that gave him much more. Mayweather has that with his uncle and father. Canelo also has that lineage, being the youngest of a bunch of brothers that are boxers.

It is amazing what slow motion will reveal in this fight. I judge based on unencumbered observation, not emotion.

Posted April 21, 2013 11:56 pm

I see Good-I’m on FACTS!!!! Canelo WON by ROBBERY just as I predicted. You need to learn how to score Fights a little better. Trout WON the most rounds and I can go back a name the rounds IF I HAVE to…and the difference between Cotto and Canelo has nothing to DO with weight. It has to DO with SKILLS and Boxing IQ. Canelo’s Defense was MUCH BETTER than Cotto’s and SO was his shot selection as a result of a BETTER Boxing IQ. He still LOST though but he WON more rounds than Cotto. …Oscar and Shane have NEVER been BETTER than Floyd. Compubox agrees with ME.

Posted April 21, 2013 11:54 pm

“It was not a robbery, you moron. Trout admitted to losing.”- I don’t care WHO admitted WHAT. I admit that MY eyes are BETTER than MOST. Trout WON the majority of the rounds. WINNING 20 seconds of a round does not erase what happened in the other 2:50. Also OOOOING and AAAAAAHING effects MOST but it doesnt effect ME.. The crowd can scream all they want. I still saw that all those haymakers MISSED. MY round by round scoring is on the other thread. Trout WON and was ROBBED. But IF they have a rematch Cabelo may WIN legitimately next time because he’s only getting BETTER and STRONGER.

Trout was soundly outboxed and outpunched. he couldn’t land a single punch of consequence and frequently missed 3, 4, 5, 6(?!?) punch combinations. Canelo displayed shades of Duran with the slippery head movement; shades of whittaker with the elusive bobbing and weaving; pure Canelo with the power jab and right, which wobbled Trout a couple of times in addition to being Decked. Trout displayed good form but little substance. Saul was form and substance. mastering the space and getting full extension on his punches. economical and making every move and punch count. he fought as experienced as his record would indicate. Solid and impressive win for Canelo.

How can a person predict such a OUT come Pacman/ Marquez. Truly amazing and then be so STUPID in the next fight Trout? canelo. Your BOY LOST. Plain and simple, Even the BIAS American commentators for Trout, said CANELO won that fight. One judge for the WBA had the SCORE CARD WRONG it was rediculous, didnt matter CANELO beat your man. Canelo was not a over blown welter like cotto. canelo is YOUNG STRONG, and has POWER. gee the 7th round PROVE that. ha ha ha The commentators said CANELO WON the fight, Trout admitts to LOSING the fight. You pick WRONG. I am 9 for 9. Yes you KNOW it. Now a OVER the HILL past his PRIME Mosley TAG Mayweather , OLD AGE Mosley could NOT end the fight. Oscar Delahoya JAB Mayweathers Head off for 5 rounds, Again OLD AGE caught up to Delahoya. There wont be a fight ever with canelo against Mayweather, YOUNG STRONG and powerfull. No Mayweather is great and SMART, he only fights fighters past their prime. Yes Mayweather is GREAT, why he CHIKEN out against PacMan I know , Mayweather is scared especially when a fighter is in his prime. the way I see it and I SEE GOOD, Mayweather is NOT only talented but the SMARTEST man in boxing. Fight guys I know I can beat.

Posted April 21, 2013 9:57 pm

This was not a robbery… But if Trout won a few more rounds it would have been a robbery because the judges were giving Canelo rounds that Austin clearly won.. Alvarez did land the harder punches and made it close. I had it 114-113 for Trout and 7 to 5 in rounds for Trout — but I think a fair and competent judge might have scored it a point or 2 in favor of Canelo, such as the commentators did, because a couple rounds were close.

If a punch visibly rocks or hurts a fighter you give that punch more weight, I gave Trout a 2-point round for the knockdown, even though he was outlanded in that round, and Farhood scored it 10-9.. Canelo landed more punches in 3 rounds, Austin landed more shots in 9 rounds, and obviously the fight was closer than that given that Canelo’s punches landed better in some rounds.

Trout was the aggressor and made the fight in the majority of rounds. Effective aggression is a scoring criteria tie breaker for a round, because you have to take chances to make the fight entertaining. Both fighters missed the majority of their punches. It’s not making punches miss, and then firing nothing back that counts — it’s the punches that land.. When you get into the business of judging 7 punches that have no visible effect as accumulatively better than 10 punches have no visible effect, you’re letting bias overrule fairness. That’s what happened here and why the scoring didn’t match what happened in the ring.

Let’s just say that Floyd would not make the mistake of fighting Canelo in Texas.

Boxtradamus, I agree with you. Canelo is only going to get better, and he’s very young. He’s going to be very dangerous in the years to come. He is nowhere near his peak as far as development goes. Even so, Trout won that fight.

Posted April 21, 2013 8:46 pm

SERVIVIENTE, true brother, and you gotta remember Benitez did not like to train, sometimes his dad and brothers would have to go out and find him and take him to the gym. Anyway, to me it looked like Alverez would get tired and sometimes lazy. If Austin would have put constant pressure on him he probably could have taken most of the later rounds , Austin gave Canelo too much respect.

Posted April 21, 2013 8:44 pm

Canelo LOST INSIDE the Ring but he showed MUCH improvement which is very encouraging. Some people were saying that he had already peaked. He closed the gap on Mikey Garcia for BEST young Mexican Fighter. He may have even SURPASSED him. His Defense was OUTSTANDING but the problem was that he DID alot more ducking and dodging than Punching for long stretches of the Fight. He’s on his way to becoming a GREAT Fighter but he WON this one by ROBBERY.

Posted April 21, 2013 8:32 pm

The guy comparing Canelo to Wilfred Benitez at his age is surely drunk and most definitely is completely clueless when it comes to boxing! The skills Benitez had at 17 Canelo will not accomplish in his lifetime!! . 25 of the 41 fights Canelo have on his record were against drunks in Guadalajara….while Benitez was a WORLD Champ at 17!!! Learn some boxing!!!

Trout likely understands that boxing is ultimately a business, and he can’t very well put down another goldenboy fighter because he probably knows how dirty these guys operate, delahoya, schaeffer, etc., and they wouldn’t hesitate to throw him under the bus and shelf him for a couple of years for speaking out.

Posted April 21, 2013 7:45 pm

Watch the fight over. Canelos punch output and the number of punches he lands that are clean are very few. Trout lands a lot more, but the commentating and the crowd really blinds a lot of people. Canelos 1-2 power punches each round should not have given him the round. The commentators were talking about Canelo punches, and half of them didn’t land, but the crowd made it seem like they did if you didn’t pay close attention. I like Canelo, but he didn’t do enough in my opinion. Never have fights in Texas, and get rid of the Open scoring crap. Horrible way to score a fight.

theres no way Trout would win in 12. Thats just the way it is, but his post fight interview was something out of the 50’s. I would expect to him say the fight was close (as it was). To admit defeat was a mistake.

I just now watched the fight, and honestly I don’t feel Canelo won that fight. That one judge Chrsitodulo must have been drunk or had a bet on Canelo. Trout was much busier, and landed many more punches to the body. 1 or 2 power punches do not win a round. The crowd without a doubt moved those judges to see it for Canelo, and GBP could not lose their cash cow. trout was aggressive, through more punches and made the fight. Trout won.

Posted April 21, 2013 7:07 pm

i could understand judging the fight one way or the other depending on who you were rooting for, but don’t say Trout was missing his punches. Canelo looked so pitiful the first half of the fight. Lunging with his right that it totally looked unnatural for him. Yes, he eventually caught Trout when the fight wore on and fatigue set in, but Canelo’s a one-trick, power-punching pony.

Posted April 21, 2013 6:58 pm

I think Trout won the fight, Alvarez seemed to be resting most of the rounds.

I cant see how anyone would want to fight in Texas after this.

Posted April 21, 2013 6:40 pm

This is how you beat Trout, do you hear me marica’s! Must be upsetting for Cottos fans to see a kid beat Trout when their pride and joy from puerto rico failed. Trout may have underestimated Canelo though. Trout and his team are very humble and accept they were behind on the score cards and showed true sportsman ship. Trout will be back.

Canelo is OVERATED! HE CLEARLY lost last night and was given a GIFT in TEXAS! Trout won the fight and ONLY Mexicans say different! Mayweather would school this fool easy!

canelo got some defense ,in the last 39 second of round 9 ,trout threw 16 punches …..but NONE of those landed ,at the end of the day canelo chose this fight he did not have to and he won fair and square

The Mad Scientist

Yeah the fight look close but it really wasn’t..Trout was busy but ineffective most of the time..Canelo could’ve done more but clearly landed the more telling blows in the majority of the rounds..either way good fight, good performance by Kid Cinnamon..

Prof Konje

A “great” fighter? Not yet. Take it easy with the accolades as he has a very long way to go.

Pete Rivera

I reviewed the fight several times and what I saw was quite revealing. First, The faster of the two was Canelo. Second, he saw most the punches; jabs and left hands. Trout got credit for more punches landed than actual connects. Although many people did not like the 118-109 scorecard, after close review that was the more accurate score. Trout acknowledged that what he thought Canelo was surprised him. I was not surprised. That young man can box, has great defense and has a high ring IQ. There is no one at 154 punds that can beat this guy. That includes Mayweather. One has to recognize that he has the reflects of 22, technique of a fighter with 41 fights and abilities that are still under development. Oscar has an eye for the gifted, Canelo is that. I have never seen a young man so developed at this age. Even Wilfredo Benitez who won the cahmpionship at 17 did not have the talent and abilities of Canelo.

I have to say, however, that is a little frustrating to watch a 22 years old, being so economical with his punches…he definitely has to do something about his stamina.

i have 7 rounds to 5 Canelo-with the knock-down…Trout wasn’t punching with conviction & was missing almost every punch-amazing defense by Canelo.
