Broner slams Katsidis: Fighting you will be a backwards move for me

By Rob Smith: WBO super featherweight champion Adrien Broner (23-0, 19 KO’s) made it clear to former lightweight contender Michael Katsidis (28-6, 23 KO’s) that he has no interest in facing him, as he doesn’t see that as a worthwhile career move right now.

Adrien Broner ‏said to Katsidis on his twitter page ”Michael Katsidis, lil homie stop writting checks your lil mouth cant cash i will dust you bro. Look lil dude fighting you will be like going backwards u bring nothing to the table your done i will hurt u #BrainDamage. @MichaelKatsidis you was a decent fighter long ago i have respect for u but at the end of the day i will KILL YOU PARTNER. I’m the best since @FloydMayweather… im taking over BOXING. @MichaelKatsidis yea there is no doubt that u would give me a fight but at the of the day you’re going to be hurt #BAD go pick on someone else.”

Katsidis, 31, has lost his last two fights and recently was beaten by Albert Mensah at light welterweight in April. Katsidis wanted to see what he could do at 140 lbs, and it looked like he didn’t have the size to compete at that weight.

Broner, 22, is the class of the super featherweight division right now after defeating Daniel Ponce De Leon, Jason Litzau and Eloy Perez. He holds down the World Boxing Organization title and has a fight coming up next month against #1 WBO contender Vincente Escobedo on July 21st.

Broner is expected to win that fight with ease and move on to bigger and better fights. The Escobedo fight will give boxing fans a good gauge of how much better Broner is than Katsidis, as Escobedo lost to Katsidis by a 12 round split decision in September 2009. Broner is seen as a potential pay per view superstar in the made mold as Floyd Mayweather Jr. Indeed, Broner fights a lot like Mayweather but he’s more of a puncher than Floyd and not quite as fast as Floyd was earlier in his career.
