Dirrell and Ward comment on Froch’s win over Bute

By Rob Smith: Both Andre Dirrell and Andre Ward made comments about Carl Froch’s win over IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute last night. Ward congragulated Froch for a job well done for fighting the right game plan against the Canadian based Bute. Froch stopped Bute in the 5th round last Saturday night in Nottingham, UK.

Dirrell said on his twitter “Bute is a bum!!! He can’t even make it to his corner!!! Welcome to the real world, Bute!!! Welcome to the real world!!”

As you can see, Dirrell seems to be happy that Bute was beaten. Dirrell was interested in facing Bute but the fight didn’t happen. I guess there’s no point in a Dirrell-Bute fight taking place now, at least not until Bute either avenges his loss to Froch or redeems himself against another top fighter in the division.

Ward said on his twitter “Uhh ohh! Bute can be broken. Well, what can you say? Carl fought the right fight by pressing Bute and answering him whenever Bute did land. It worked.”

Bute did land some shots, but they were the single variety with his left hand for the most part. Froch did a really good job of coming back from the shots and returning fire immediately with sustained combinations. Bute collapsed under Froch’s assaults and would retreat to the ropes as if he didn’t have the strength to stand up to Froch’s shots.

Bute probably had the better power of the two fighters for a single shot, but he wasn’t able to throw combinations like Froch. He needed to open up with a flurry like Froch was doing, but it’s just not part of Bute’s game. He doesn’t fight in a reckless manner, and he either needed to return fire like Froch or he needed to move around the ring like he used to do earlier in his career. At 32, Bute may not be able to move like he did back in 2006 and 2007. He was light on his feet back then, but he seems to have slowed in the last three years.
