Team Sauerland regrets to inform boxing fans that Mikkel Kessler´s next fight in Copenhagen has been postponed to May 19. The Viking Warrior has not yet regained the necessary fitness following last year´s hand surgery, forcing him to pull out of the April 14 clash with WBO Super-Middleweight Champion Robert Stieglitz. Details about the new opponent will be announced at a press conference next week..
“I hate to keep my fans waiting and I am really sorry about the delay,” Kessler said. “As a boxer, my fists are my biggest weapon. To fight and to win at the highest level, I need my hand to be fully recovered. Unfortunately, the April 14 date comes just a little too early but I will be ready on May 19. I have kept my shape and can´t wait to be fighting again in front of my Danish fans.”
Said promoter Kalle Sauerland: “Although I believe that Mikkel would defeat 90 percent of the super-middleweights out there with just one hand, we will not let him into the ring when he is not fully recovered. His health has always been our top priority. The five-week delay is disappointing but it´s not the end of the world. On May 19, Mikkel will come back in style and put on a great show.”
MITCHELL BUCKLAND SIGNS WITH HATTON PROMOTIONS
HATTON Promotions have signed a promotional deal with Cardiff amateur sensation Mitchell Buckland.
It will be a family affair when the teenager makes his debut at Ponds Forge Arena, Sheffield on Saturday March 24.
Older brother Gary tops the card when he makes the first defence of his British super-featherweight title against Paul Truscott.
Mitchell, 19, won three Welsh schoolboy championships, three Welsh youth titles and had a hat-trick of triumphs in the British youth championships.
The southpaw will box at lightweight. He will be managed by Brian Powell and trained by Tony Borg.
Powell said: “Everybody in the camp is excited about Gary’s big fight in Sheffield but Mitchell’s debut is giving us as much of a buzz.
“He really is one for the future, but if fans think he is a younger version of Gary they’re in for a surprise.
“Gary loves a brawl, but Mitchell has fast hands and is a really smart boxer. His debut adds to what will be a great night on Sheffield.”
Sky Sports will be televising the card live and other hopefuls boxing include unbeaten heavyweight Richard Towers, Belarusian sensation Sergey Rabchenko, Adam Etches, Scott Jenkins, Carl Bell, Jason Cunningham and Jack Perry.

Team Gunn has announced they will be donating $2 from every T-Shirt sale to promoting bully awareness
Team Gunn recently announced that they will be donating a portion of proceeds raised from the sale of ‘Team Gunn’ T-Shirt to promoting bully awareness.
“In recent weeks Team Gunn has launched an effort to spread bully awareness, and so we are going to donate $2 out of every T-Shirt sale to promoting the cause,” said Chris Cella, Director of Public Relations, Team Gunn. “Every week it seems there are reports of bullying-related deaths across the country. It’s a real shame, and it’s time people step up and take action to combat this problem.”
On April 7 at the Landers Center in Southaven, MS, Bobby “The Celtic Warrior” Gunn will be going to battle with James “Lights Out” Toney for the IBA Heavyweight Title. To promote the cause, Gunn has announced that he is dedicating the fight to bullied victims worldwide.
“Bullying has become a disease that is slowly killing innocent kids,” said Gunn. “Parents, teachers and authoritative figures need to be proactive in spreading awareness on how bullying can be dealt with the right way to ensure it does not progress to a deadly level. Although bullying is a disease, it can be cured.”
“The bullying problem is continuing to spiral out of control,” said Cella. “Team Gunn is hoping to spread awareness with the T-Shirts, and to get others to join our cause. Individuals across the country—from celebrities to everyday people—need to join forces in working towards finding a solution to this growing epidemic.”
To support the growing cause, 15-year-old Georgia High School student Kirsten Hoge has joined forces with Gunn and has created the Rise and Shine Bullying Organization. At Gunn’s title fight April 7, Kirsten will speak alongside the world champion boxer to promote bully awareness.
“My goal is for our organization to grow and branch out to different states,” said Kirsten Hoge. “We want to coordinate with schools to set up groups and programs for bullied kids so they can meet in a safe environment.”
