Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing wishes to congratulate his fighter, WBA World Featherweight Super Champion Chris “The Dragon” John, for being awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the World Boxing Association. 32-year-old John (46-0-2, 22 KOs) has defeated the likes of Juan Manuel Marquez, Derrick Gainer and Rocky Juarez while making 15 successful defenses over a WBA-record nine years of being champion. .
“Chris John is truly an all-time great,” said a proud Lewkowicz. “I am very happy the WBA has bestowed their highest honor on this most deserving champion and hero to his homeland of Indonesia.”
John was presented his prestigious award by WBA President Gilberto Mendoza at their 19th Annual Awards Dinner in Panama City, Panama, in front of other boxing luminaries including former champions Ricky Hatton and Khaosai Galaxy.
If he is able to defend his title four more times, John will equal the record set by Panama’s Eusebio Pedroza for successful featherweight title defenses.
Lewkowicz also wishes to announce that Sampson Boxing was awarded Recognition For Exceptional Performances in 2011 by the WBA and that one of his partners, Raja Sapta Oktohari of Mahkota Promotions of Indonesia, was awarded Asian Promoter of the Year.

CHRIS ALGIERI RETURNS TO THE PARAMOUNT IN HUNTINGTON, NY ON SATURDAY, MARCH 31ST
The Pride of Huntington” Chris Algieri will return to The Paramount on Saturday, March 31st to battle Rochester, New York’s Winston Mathis in the main event at ROCKIN BOUTS 3, presented by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing.

The junior welterweight clash featuring Algieri marks the third straight time the undefeated pre-med student has headlined the classic theater in his hometown of Huntington.
Sporting an unblemished record of 13-0-0 with six stoppages, Algieri is coming off a dominant performance on January 28th, taking a unanimous decision over Atlanta’s Curtis Smith.
Prior to that, Algieri made his debut at The Paramount, a ten round nationally televised win over Bayan Jargal on November 19th.
Known as ‘The Rochester Reaper”, Mathis, 7-4-1 (2KO’s), has faced numerous undefeated, highly regarded prospects including Jose Benavidez, Gabriel Bracero and Jake Giuriceo.
New York fight fans will remember Mathis’ terrific six round war with the then-undefeated Bracero on March 31, 2010.

Baltimore-Pittsburgh rivalry takes the squared circle March 23!

Although most sports fans think of the Ravens-Steelers rivalry when mentioning both cities in the same sentence, Baltimore and Pittsburgh have each produced many great fighters. Boxing legends such as Harry Greb, Billy Conn, Fritzie Zivic, Joe Gans and Kid Williams came from the Steel City or Charm City, while both continue to produce solid talent to this day.
“I spoke to some people about putting this card together and everybody loved the idea,” said Smith. “Football is so popular that many people forget that both cities have had quality boxers, both amateur and pro, for many years. Much like the Ravens-Steelers games, this matchup between Baltimore and Pittsburgh will be extremely competitive.”
A special silent auction will take place throughout the evening along with a 50/50 raffle, with all proceeds going to the American Red Cross of Central Maryland.
