By Lewis Croft: Yet again the potential ‘super fight’ between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao has hit yet another hurdle. Years in the making, the fight we all want to see looked closer than ever after Floyd Mayweathers legal problems were put on hold. With the date set for May 5th, ‘Money’ took to social networking site, Twitter, to address the public and call out the Philippines star. “Manny Pacquiao I’m calling you out let’s fight May 5th and give the world what they want to see.”.
But despite this, it now seems that Mayweather is no longer in Bob Arums immediate plans for Manny Pacquiao. Wanting a fight of this magnitude to take place in an outdoor arena, which effectively will double the attendance than that of the MGM Grand, is set to seek advice of contractors in hope for a possible temporary stadium to be built in Las Vegas. But realistically will not be completed before May 5th, a date which is a must for Floyd.
With Mayweather ruled out, potential opponents for Manny Pacquiao which could be scheduled for June 9th include yet another bout with Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez, a rematch with WBA Light-middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, Timothy Bradley and Lamont Peterson, the man who recently outpointed ‘Pacmans’ stable mate.. As for Mayweather, names such as Robert Guerrero, Saul Alvarez and Middleweight king Sergio Martinez all being mentioned. Despite all being great fighters in their own right, each bringing a different style, this is not the fight the world is waiting to see
The issues of blood testing, claims of each side ducking each other and the inability to complete an interview without the others name being mentioned has saw the hype grow considerably with those outside the boxing circle excited at this potential bout. For now the Mayweather/Pacquiao story/fiasco looks set to continue. As long as these two giants remain in the sport, the world will always be calling for this generation defining fight and as of yet, the world has been deprived of this great spectacle.
