Donaire, a top-five pound-for-pound best in the world, said, “There are thousands Filipino boxing fans throughout the world, particularly in the UK. I am excited that BoxNation is showing my world title fight. This is my first time I have been at Madison Square Garden, the Home of Champions. I am fighting Omar Narvaez who has never been beaten. I want to be the first to defeat him.”
Unbeaten Argentinian Narvaez, a former World Boxing Organization (WBO) World Super-Flyweight Champion, said, “I am proud to be in New York, fight a great champion in Nonito Donaire and have all of my fans in the UK see me on BoxNation.”
Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, who’s company Top Rank is promoting the fight said, “Top Rank is delighted that BoxNation will televise the Nonito Donaire vs Omar Narvaez world title fight from Madison Square Garden to the UK,”

IBF Eliminator Tops ‘Miami Warfare’ November 18
On Friday, November 18, The Winner Sports Promotions, Bad Dog Productions and Warriors Boxing Promotions will proudly present “Miami Warfare” a night of world-class professional boxing at the Miami Airport Convention Center (MACC) in Miami, Florida.
Topping the action will be an International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior middleweight elimination bout to determine the #2 contender between Giorbis Barthelemy (25-8-2, 10 KOs) of Hialeah, Florida via Cuba, and Miami’s Charles “Killa” Whittaker (37-12-2, 23 KOs).
39-year-old Barthelemy is coming off TKO 2 over well-respected then-USBA Junior Middleweight Champion Derek Ennis in March. 37-year-old Whittaker is riding a 13-fight winning streak that included picking up the NABO, WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) and USBA titles.
“These two guys have had good, respectable careers and they can both still fight. For the winner, this will represent the opportunity for one last shot at a world title,” said event co-promoter Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing. “So what we have in this terrific main event is two proud warriors giving everything they have to take a giant step toward reach their lifelong dream. It’s going to be sensational.”
In the main supporting bout will be wildly popular South Florida street fighter turned heavyweight Erik “The Viking” Leander (11-1, 8 KOs). The heavily muscled Leander’s kill-or-be-killed style never makes for a bad fight.
Leading up the undercard is cruiserweight destroyer Yunier Dorticos (12-0, 12 KOs), the knockout assassin from Cuba currently tearing through the 200-lb ranks.
Also appearing will be heavyweight Glendy Hernandez (7-0, 3 KOs); cruiserweight Yuniesky Gonzalez (5-0, 3 KOs); lightweight Hylon Williams Jr. (14-0, 3 KOs) and welterweight Antwone Smith (20-3-1, 12 KOs) – all against opponents that are TBA.

Christina Cruz and Damarius Russell to Open Pan American Games Action for the U.S. Boxing Team
(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – 2011 Pan American Games boxing action will begin today at the Expo Guadalajara Arena in Guadalajara, Mexico. Eight U.S. boxers will compete in the multi-sport event with a pair of American pugilists opening the competition in preliminary bouts tonight.
Flyweight Christina Cruz (New York, N.Y.) will make history as the first American female boxer to compete in the Pan American Games when she battles Colombia’s Isaias Mena in quarterfinal action. The 2011 Pan American Games are the first-ever for women’s boxing and the flyweight division will be the lone female weight class to compete on Friday.
U.S. Marine Corps’ middleweight Damarius Russell (Camp Lejeune, N.C.) will face a tough test in his opening bout as he challenges reigning Pan Am Games champion and 2008 Olympic silver medalist Emilio Correa on Friday night. Friday’s boxing action will begin at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
2010 Women’s World Championships bronze medalist Queen Underwood (Seattle, Wash.) will make her Pan Am Games debut on Saturday in the lone bout for her U.S. team. Underwood will battle Puerto Rico’s Kiria Tapia in lightweight quarterfinal competition.
Middleweight Franchon Crews (Baltimore, Md.) will be the final U.S. female boxer to compete in Guadalajara, and she will have her hands full in her quarterfinal bout. Crews will face off with three-time World Champion Mary Spencer of Canada in the middleweight opening bout.
Four American male boxers will make their Pan American Games debuts in quarterfinal competition on Monday. Flyweight John Franklin (Fort Carson, Colo.), lightweight Toka Kahn Clary (Providence, R.I.) and super heavyweight Danny Kelly (Washington DC) will all compete in the 2 p.m. (CT) session while light heavyweight Jeffery Spencer (Fort Carson, Colo.) will box in the evening (6 p.m. CT). Franklin will challenge former Youth World Champion Robeisy Ramirez in his opening contest while Khan Clary awaits the winner of the first round bout between Brazil and the Dominican Republic. Kelly’s opening round contest will feature a showdown with Colombia’s Isaias Mena, and Spencer will close the day for Team USA in a quarterfinal bout with newly crowned 2011 World Champion Julio De La Cruz of Cuba.
Semifinal action will begin on Tuesday and Wednesday and final round competition will be contested on Friday and Saturday following Thursday’s rest day. Coaches Gloria Peek (Norfolk, Va.), Charles Leverette (Fort Carson, Colo.), and Bruce Kawano (Pearl City, Hawaii) are leading the team into action in Mexico.
