Ramos Jr. Earns 67% of Votes from “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” Viewers
New York (October 7, 2011) – Luis Ramos Jr. scored an exciting 5th round knockout victory over David Rodela, maintaining his undefeated professional record during the main event of the September 30 “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” broadcast. His performance also impressed the fans at home, who gave him 67% of their text and online votes and, as a result, the title of the boxer with the most carácter of the week, putting Ramos Jr. in the running to receive the next “Cinturón Tecate” (Tecate Belt).
“Cinturón Tecate” is an award created to celebrate the boxers who display the most carácter in the ring during the “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” broadcast each Friday night on TeleFutura. Tecate recognizes that viewers at home are the best judges and allows them to vote for their favorite fighter of the night by sending a text message or visiting www.Univision.com. To thank participating fans, each text submitted gives them the opportunity to win boxing memorabilia, such as T-shirts, autographed pictures and even tickets to future “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” fights.
The next opportunity to vote will be during the October 14 broadcast of “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” which will feature Michael Perez taking on an opponent to be announced from the Coliseo Rafael G. Amalbert in Juncos, Puerto Rico.
During the same broadcast, the boxer who earned the highest percentage of fan votes between July and September will be announced & presented with the third “Cinturón Tecate” of 2011. The winner will also appear in an upcoming episode of Univision’s premier sports show “República Deportiva.”

Big Lou’s Corner: The Left Hook
Boxing trainer and manager Lou Esa sat down with me again for another round of Big Lou’s Corner in which he discusses the left hook.
Big Lou Esa:
The left hook is a devastating punch which is always set up by the right hand or jab. It is the finishing punch in a fighter’s combination. The jab sets up the right hand which will stun your opponent, and then you finish him off with the hook.
A big misconception amongst young fighters is that they have to “throw” a left hook. But you don’t actually throw it, you turn with it. You pivot off your left foot if you are a conventional fighter, and turn over your shoulder and hips. By doing so you turn with your punch and hit with all of your weight, and if you land it cleanly your opponent will be incapable of continuing in the fight.
And the left hook is a versatile punch. You can go to the head or body, and use combinations such as jab-hook to the body, or body head, head body. The hook is a dynamite punch to use against an opponent on the ropes or break someone to down to make them drop their hands. If they are holding their hands up tight, throw a hook at the kidney or liver and they’ll drop guard immediately.
A perfect example of a devastating left hook is when Bernard Hopkins dropped Oscar De La Hoya in 2004. He led with a left jab followed by a pinpoint left hook to De La Hoya’s body, and De La Hoya dropped to the ground and wailed around in pain.
The left hook, when used properly, is a fantastic punch that completes any arsenal in boxing.
Tune in next week as Big Lou Esa discusses combinations.
