Buckland vs. Sykes on September 24; All Star Boxing, Inc and Boxeo TELEMUNDO celebrate 10th anniversary; Wilson-Mussachio on 11/19

GARY BUCKLAND is bidding to become the second fighter from his gym inside a week to claim a British title.

Hatton Promotions’ Cardiff fighter challenges Gary Sykes for the British super-featherweight championship at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge Arena on Saturday night (Sept 24)

His scrap comes days after stable mate and sparring partner, Lee Selby stunned Stephen Smith to become British and Commonwealth featherweight king.

It is ironic that Sykes and Smith have also being putting each other through their paces in the gym.

Close pal Selby said: “Gary is in great shape.

“He was the perfect sparring for Smith and I have been ideal to help him prepare for Sykes.

“I am faster and sharper than Sykes and I believe he will knock him out again.”

Buckland beat Sykes in 45 seconds at a Prizefighter competition last year, but says: “People are saying I will knock him out again, but I am just looking to win on points.

“I have had a great nine week training camp and I am so fit I would be able to do 15 rounds.

“We’re just a few days away and I am looking forward to getting in the ring and enjoying the fight.”

In the chief support former European champion and WBC world title challenger Rendall Munroe meets Ryuta Miyagi in a non-title ten rounder.

Jenkins fellow Sheffield prospects Adam Etches, Scott Jenkins, Richard Towers and Jezz Wilson are also on the big bill.

Etches and Towers face Belarussian opposition. Heavyweight Towers meeting Yuri Bihoutseu over eight rounds, while Etches boxes Yauheni Abdurazakau over four rounds.

Jenkins has his second paid fight when he faces vastly experienced Steve Gethin.

Manchester’s former amateur star Tommy Stubbs makes his pro debut when he faces, tricky Kuwaiti Anwar Alfadi, who boxes out of Ingle’s stable.

Other fights: Justyn Hugh v Carl Wild and Wilson v Jay Morris.

In the main event former IBA World champion Orlando “El Fenomeno” Cruz (16-2-1-7 KO’s) of San Juan, Puerto Rico will face unbeaten Michael “Lil Warrior” Franco (19-0-12 KO’s) of Riverside, CA in a bout schedule for 12 Rounds with the WBO Latin Featherweight Title at stake.

Garrett Wilson vs. Chuck Mussachio on November 19th

Atlantic City, NJ—World-ranked Garrett Wilson, the poster boy for good fighters with bad records, makes the first defense of his USBA cruiserweight title when he faces Chuck Mussachio in the scheduled 12-round main event Saturday evening, Nov. 19, in the Grand Ballroom at Bally’s Atlantic City. First of seven fights will be 7.30 pm.

Wilson, 29, of Philadelphia, PA, won the vacant USBA crown April 23 at Caesar’s Atlantic City when he avenged a previous defeat by pounding out a 12-round decision over Omar Sheika, of Paterson, NJ. Sheika had stopped Wilson in four rounds early in 2010.

A pro since 2008, Wilson (left) has a deceiving 10-5-1 record, 4 K0s. Prior to beating Sheika, Wilson knocked out world-rated Aaron Williams in seven rounds in Williams’ backyard of Cleveland, OH.

Wilson is known as the Ultimate Warrior. He has fought some of the best prospects on the East Coast, including Dyah Davis, Dennis Hasson, Carlos Negron and Julio Cesar Matthews. He also boxed a draw with 18-1-1 Andres Taylor in Taylor’s backyard of Johnstown, PA, in a fight Wilson accepted on 36 hours’ notice.

Mussachio, 32, of Wildwood, NJ, is a school teacher and he is nicknamed The Professor. He hopes to teach Wilson a lesson he will never forget.

A pro since 2005, Mussachio (right) is 17-1-2, 5 K0s. In his last fight Dec. 12 in the same ring, he earned an eight-round decision over Theo Kruger, of Port Charlotte, FL, for his fourth win in a row. He also defeated Tony Ferrante, of Philadelphia, PA, and Bobby Rooney, of Bayonne, NJ, in that streak..

Mussachio has lost only to world-rated Tom Karpency, of Adah, PA, via 10-round decision.

Five additional fights complete the card.
