By Vitali Shaposhnikov: There is always something to be learned after every fight a boxer goes through. Experience has always been talked about as a fighter’s main benefit, giving them the ability to dominate not only physically but strategically as well. I have learned a few things about both fighters after re-watching the Vitali Klitschko (43-2-0) vs. Tomasz Adamek (44-2-0) bout that took place in Poland this past Saturday, September 10, 2011.
The first I would like to mention is that based on his performance and display of heart and dedication against Klitschko, Adamek is a superb heavyweight boxer, and has plenty of good fights to offer the boxing world in the near future. When Vitali Klitschko mentioned that Adamek is the third best heavyweight fighters beside himself and his brother Wladimir, he was absolutely right. Adamek showed his ability to take tremendous shots from a natural heavyweight, and displayed the kind of bravery that most other challengers of Vitali were too afraid to seek. Adamek kept coming for Vitali, and never stalled throughout the fight. His attempts were never hindered by anything that Vitali did, and he rarely showed lack of confidence. I would love to see Adamek face Chris Arreola (33-2-0) once again, take a crack at David Haye (25-2-0), or wait for the winner of Alexander Povetkin (22-0-0) vs. Evander Holyfield (44-10-2). Of all the mentioned names, I would most certainly pick Adamek to beat them all in a clear decisive fashion. Despite his loss to a much bigger, stronger and more experienced Vitali, I am absolutely positive that Adamek’s heavyweight career is far from over.
As far as Vitali goes, there is no surprise or room for a fight break-down. This was simply an complete domination by Vitali, with absolutely no sign of hope for Adamek at any point in the fight. Overmatched, Adamek’s efforts were more than formidable, but for Klitschko, it was a sparring session at most. With this in mind, I am starting to doubt his ability to continue his reign wholeheartedly, as there is simply no one who possesses any bit of threat to the giant Ukrainian. Financial gain may keep him in the game, but as far as a challenge goes, Vitali is out of luck! His size, physical and mental strength, and most importantly experience, have gotten him to a point where finding a formidable opposition is nearly impossible.
Having said that, it appears as though Vitali passionately wants to knock out David Haye next: http://www.skysports.com/video/inline/0,,13273_7169344,00.html While the result of their potential bout is practically set in stone, still it would be very exciting to observe the drama leading up to the fight, and to see what David Haye looks like with his back on the canvas. Of course I would much rather see Vitali take on Nikolai Valuev, but with Valuev’s attempts to become political, this is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
