Ghana’s Ishmael Tetteh vs Marco Schulze for WBU title in Germany October 15; Napari vs Petkovic on Oct 14

By Prince Dornu-Leiku – Ishmael Tetteh, the Ghanaian boxer nicknamed Black Roy Jones, fights for the lowly regarded World Boxing Union (WBU) Light Middleweight title against Marco Schulze on Saturday October 15 at the Ofen Stadthalle, Velten, Brandenburg, Germany with a vow to claim victory, the title and re-launch his bid for a recognised world title as he strives to achieve his career goals..

Tetteh, 24-6-2 (13 KOs), is coming off three straight victories this year after losing the last two of 2010, first to South African Peter Mashamaite right here in Accra in a bid for the vacant WBO Africa Middleweight title, then in faraway Russia for the vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental Light Middleweight belt against Anton Novikov.

Now he says he is in the best shape of his life and raring to go against German Schulze (30-6-1, 18 KOs), even if it’s in the opponent’s own backyard.

“The mission is still on, the mission I set myself to be a world champion before I became a professional still fires me on. I’ve had a few setbacks but I believe that what does not kill you can only make you stronger,” an obviously confident Ishmael Tetteh has said.

The boxer who will be accompanied on the trip to Germany by his trainer Collins Kusi and Manager Abubakari Issah added:
“Ghanaians should remember me in their prayers because I promise them this fights begins my journey to the world title in America. I promise to do everything to win.”

John Napari for WBF Heavyweight title October 14

By Prince Dornu-Leiku

Ghana’s heavyweight boxing pride John Napari has the opportunity to up his stakes for a crack at the world title when fights Alexander Petkovic for the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental Heavyweight title on October 14 in Munich, Bayern, Germany.

31 year old Napari, 13-0 (8 KOs), has sworn to become the first Ghanaian heavyweight world champion and this faces a stern test against Petkovic, also 31 but with a massively experienced record (40-4-4, 20 KOs) who despite hailing from Bosnia is resident in Munich and will therefore be at home.

But according to Matchmaker Solomon Otoo Lartey, Napari is so determined to break new grounds for Ghanaian heavyweights that he will not be affected by the expected hostile home crowd as well the disadvantage of fighting outside the shores of Ghana for the first time ever.

“John (Napari) is a warrior, a true African warrior and we have no doubt that he will bring glory to Ghana. You have to watch him in training and eat back any doubts.

“We have watched many videos of Petkovic and trust me, John will demolish even if the fight was in Petkovic’s own room,” Mr. Otoo Lartey told ALL SPORTS.

Napari is expected to leave the country for Germany two weeks to fight in order to acclimatize. He will be accompanied by his trainer Mutari Haruna and Manager Abdul Razak Yakubu.
