HBO to show Mayweather-Ortiz “Star Power” show

By James Slater: HBO will show the upcoming, eagerly awaited Floyd Mayweather v Victor Ortiz WBC welterweight title clash, Richard Schaefer has told ESPN.com. The card, given the tagline of “Star Power” will be heavily promoted by the cable giant, and Schaefer said “all the assets HBO has will be used to support this fight and give it the widest possible exposure.”

The fight, “Money’s” first since May of last year, promises to be a big event, and there is the possibility that hot new champion Saul Alvarez will be part of the night’s TV broadcast, with the 20 year old defending his belt against a name to be confirmed in Mexico. Another possibility is that legend Erik Morales will also be part of the broadcast – again facing an as yet unconfirmed opponent. It will be the main event that will have the fans tuning in, though.

With HBO doing all it can to hype the fight between the superstar and the hard-hitting defending champ, and with the strong possibility being in existence that a victorious Mayweather will then finally agree to get it on with Manny Pacquiao, big Pay-per-View numbers are all but guaranteed.

As has been written already, most see a definite win for Floyd – but Ortiz has the stance and the power to make the fight fun for as long as it lasts. The addition of Canelo and fellow Mexican marvel El Terrible will only add to the night’s entertainment and value for money. With the right touch, the September 17th card could be the biggest and brightest of the year!

Welcome back, Floyd, I say; the boxing master has been away from his place of work for far too long. And props go out to both Mayweather and Victor Ortiz for agreeing to such a risky encounter.
