Santana-Jones on 5/5; Asselstine in action on 6/24; Andy Lee vs. Alex Bunema on 5/18

On Thursday May 5th, Popular welterweight prospect, Edgar Santana (24-3, 15KO’s), returns to the ring, and will do it in front of his hometown fans in the Bronx, when he fights in the main event of the first of Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing’s, five scheduled shows in 2011, at the beautiful and historic Paradise Theater on Grand Concourse. Star Boxing, which began the “Punchin at the Paradise” series in 2006, has locked in five dates at the Theater for the remainder of 2011, starting with the first show on May 5th.

“So many boxing fans here in the Bronx and New York, are excited for Edgar’s return to the ring on May 5th,” stated Joe DeGuardia, CEO and President of Star Boxing. Edgar actually made his pro-debut on one of our shows, and now he is making his much anticipated return to the ring, in some ways his second debut, on yet another Star Boxing card. So not only is it fitting for him, but also fitting for us that we are getting our Bronx series back underway and featuring it with one of the most popular fighters from the Bronx in the main event.”

Santana was riding a three-fight win streak, including his most impressive as a pro, when he won a ten round decision, in a war against current NABF Light Welterweight Champ, Joselito Lopez on Showtime’s Showbox: The New Generation back in April of 2008. While Lopez would go on to win seven fights in a row, including picking up the NABF title in his last fight against unbeaten Mike Dallas Jr., Santana was forced to wait on the sidelines, after running into some legal problems outside of the ring. With those problems behind him now, Santana has re-dedicated his life to the sport and looks to pick up right where he left off and continue on his quest to becoming world champion. Santana is set to square off against Robert “Wolf” Jones, a veteran of seventeen professional fights, in a scheduled eight rounder.

Superstar-In-Wait Asselstine Ready For Next Conquest

TORONTO, ON – (Wednesday, April 27, 2011) In the world of professional boxing, prospects come along on a daily basis. Most merely have youth and the veneer of potential on their side. Rarely, however, does a fighter emerge from a successful amateur career seemingly hardwired for professional superstardom.

24 year-old Tyler Asselstine is one of those precious exceptions.

The southpaw hailing from Ottawa, Ontario has burst upon the professional scene with a vengeance, winning his first five professional fights in startling fashion, including 4 via stoppage.

And on June 24th, at Mississauga’s Hershey Centre, Asselstine will look to continue turning heads of experts and opponents alike when he steps into the ring at “Friday Night at the Fights” presented by United Boxing Promotions, in association with Hennessy Sports Canada.

Asselstine is considered one of the best prospects to ever come out of Ontario, and with just a handful of fights on his professional resume is already being called by some the best Super Bantamweight and Featherweight in Canada.

But it’s not just the 2010 Ringside World Champion’s undefeated record and 80% KO rate as a professional that has the experts salivating, it’s the tools he’s utilizing to tear an early swath through the boxing world that has spawned visions of greatness.

“Tyler doesn’t just dominate with one aspect of the sport. He’s dominant on so many boxing fronts that it’s almost dizzying,” said Jason Toufexis, Director of Boxing operations for Hennessy Sports Canada, the company that won out a star-studded bidding war to procure Asselstine’s promotional rights.

“If a guy starts his careers by blowing fighters away, you generally wonder what he could do against a guy who has a fighting chance. With Tyler, you see him and you know he’s suited to dominate any type of fighter he faces.”

But according to Toufexis, it’s not just Asselstine’s in-ring qualities that set him apart from other amateur standouts vying for professional success.

“Here’s a kid who could have signed with any prominent promoter in North America, he was that sought after. But Tyler is so grounded and such a solid individual, he decided to base himself here at home, instead of uprooting everything and relocating to Vegas or Los Angeles.”

“Tyler’s the real deal in every aspect, and a true superstar in waiting.”

Tickets for this stellar 10th Anniversary boxing event priced at $30 and $50 are available now at the Hershey Centre box office, or through Ticketmaster by calling (416) 872-5000 or logging onto www.ticketmaster.ca.
