Klitschko-Solis Tonight – Will We See An Upset? “La Sombre” To Beat Vitali!

boxingby James Slater – Tonight in Cologne, Germany, a heavyweight title fight that has hardly been given the attention it deserves goes ahead, and most fans expect to see defending WBC king Vitali Klitschko to come through with some ease against unbeaten Cuban Odlanier Solis; hence the lack of hype the fight has had.

However, these same fans did also say that “if” Solis – who has weighed as much as 271-pounds in the past – got himself into good physical shape, he would stand a much better shot at winning the crown. Well, as we can see from the weigh-in photos, the 30-year-old has indeed got himself into at least decent shape. Coming in at a much more acceptable 246-pounds (a few pounds less than the always-ripped Vitali!), Solis has more fans thinking he just might do the job tonight in Cologne.

Solis’ promoter, Ahmet Oener, said he wil “quit the heavyweight business” if his man fails to win tonight, so convinced is he that his warrior is the real deal. For what it’s worth, a number of fellow pros have also tipped, or come close to tipping, Solis to win. David Haye and unbeaten prospect David Price both feel the Olympic gold medallist may do it and, for what it’s worth again – so do I..

Vitali, who struggles these days to get through a full training camp without feeling pain and/or suffering an injury or two, is close to age 40 and he has to go sometime. I think the fast-handed, talented and strong Solis will take “Dr. Iron Fist’s” belt tonight. But how will he do it? On points? Not unless he makes it ultra-clear that he is the better man. By KO? Not likely, not against a guy with as hard a head and jaw as the giant from Ukraine.

I think Solis will get inside, let his fast hand go and frustrate the slower, less agile champion. Klitschko, who has not been pushed too hard in the comeback he began in 2008 after a four year layoff, will be made to work harder than ever and his gas tank will begin to empty at the half-way stage. Using a Teddy Atlas metaphor, Vitali will be like an old car, unable to keep up with the faster, sports car. The road will become bumpier and bumpier for Vitali, as Solis’ confidence grows and he piles up the points.

With the fans in shock and awe, Solis will indeed prove beyond any doubt he is the better man, as he shocks the world and wins a close decision. Would I bet on this outcome coming to fruition? Maybe, but only a small amount of cash! I do see the upset happening, though.
