Murray defends EBU title against Ouazghari on 4/2

European lightweight Champion John Murray heads to the capital and now headlines the York Hall on Saturday 2nd April. The unbeaten Manchester star makes the second defence of his title against the reigning Spanish champion Karim El Ouazghari from Barcelona..

Murray follows the path of fellow Mancunian Ricky Hatton who topped the famous London boxing venue in 2000 on his way to super-stardom.

“I’m really excited to be coming to London again and showing the fans that I’m the best talent around,” said the 27-year-old, who has not fought in the capital for more than four years.

“There is always an electric atmosphere at York Hall, and it will be no different on April 2.

“It’s every fighter’s dream to headline at the home of London boxing, and I’ll be looking to put on a very special display for the fans.

“Hatton put on a devastating performance against Guiseppe Lauri when he fought at the York Hall, I was just a teenager at the time and remember watching it on TV and he had the fans rocking.

“I want to do the same. I need to put in an explosive performance to keep on building my fan base because I want to be well supported all over the country, not just in Manchester, and I can promise that no one will go home disappointed.”

Ouzaghari, 31, is known as El Diablo, and Murray is expecting a devilish performance from the Spaniard.

“I’ve seen a few of his fights on the internet and he looks strong with a tremendous left hook,” Said Murray

“I’m sure he is going to come to London with all guns blazing.

“He knows that this is his big chance to shine, and I’ll have to be at the top of my game.

“I’ve got a world ranking to protect. If I lose then any chance of fighting for a world title will go out the window, so there is so much at stake for me.”

A top quality card features some of the best unbeaten prospects in Britian: Hatfield middleweight Billy Joe Saunders, Cromer featherweight Ryan Walsh, Canning Town super-featherweight Billy Morgan, Penge welterweight Bradley Skeete and Slough welterweight George Michael Carmen.
