The Belfast Kronk ABC’s recent unique developing world charity fundraising boxing event at the Dockers Social Club was a major success with £1,720 being raised for the world’s hunger and needy children. The event was organised to raise much needed funds for the charity organisation ‘Concern Worldwide’.
Kronk Treasurer, Pat McStravick commented ‘We were delighted with money we were able to raise for Concern Worldwide through this event. There was a great turnout of people for the show and the boxing was also excellent with the Belfast Kronk boxers picking up 8 wins out of the 10 bouts.’
For more than 40 years ‘Concern Worldwide’ has been dedicated to reducing suffering and fighting hunger and poverty around the globe. Today, the aid organisation continues to respond to major emergencies as well as working in long term development programmes. Their main areas of focus are health and nutrition, education, and combating HIV and AIDS..
The money raised by the Belfast Kronk ABC will go in some small way to alleviating problems for people in developing countries in the world. As Mother Teresa of Calcutta once said ‘ If you can’t feed a hundred people, feed just one.’
Kronk coach, Sean Murphy commented ‘The event was fantastic, something everyone in the gym had trained hard for. All of the boxers can be very proud of themselves; by participating in the boxing bouts they played their part to raise a few pounds for a very deserving cause. Boxing is a great sport for young people to channel their positive energy into.’
Club officials would like to express their sincere thanks to Belfast City Council for supporting this boxing event, Dockers Social Club, 174 Trust, all boxers, event spectators and all the local bars, shops, bookmakers and business community for generously placing sponsorship ads in the Fight Night Show Programme.
