‘Friday Night at the Fights’—Sirius XM’s number one boxing talk radio show, hosted by boxing great Gerry Cooney—announced that 2010 NJ Golden Gloves Champion and recently turned professional boxer Vinny “The Lion” O’Brien will be a guest on the show this Friday, Jan. 21. To listen to the show tune into Sirius 125, XM 241 at 7 p.m. Eastern.
Vinny O’Brien recently confirmed with Main Events—one of the boxing world’s top promotional firms—that he will be making his professional debut on the undercard of the IBF title fight between Zab Judah and Kaizer Mabuza on March 5, 2011 at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
O’Brien, who trains under the tutelage of former heavyweight knockout artist Lou Esa at Final Round Boxing and Fitness in Whippany, has been waiting for this moment since he first put on a pair of gloves.
“I feel like it is meant to be; the right time, the right place, everything seems like it’s supposed to happen this way,” said O’Brien. “I put in the hard work to get to this point, and now it’s time for my debut and make the world familiar with the name Vinny O’Brien.”
O’Brien, who was a finalist in the Golden Gloves tournament in 2008, began working with Lou Esa shortly after losing the close championship fight, and never looked back. Since he soared through each round of the 2010 tournament in route to becoming champion and was honored with the title of “Fighter of the Night.”
Upon hearing that he would be making his professional debut in such a grand arena as Prudential Center, O’Brien sat back and smiled and knew he was about to achieve everything he’s been working so hard for.
“All fighters dream about fighting on a stage like the Prudential Center,” said O’Brien. “This is what I’ve wanted since I first started boxing, the chance to show the boxing world what I got and that I’m here to stay. Many thanks to Main Events for this opportunity and I promise all my fans they won’t be disappointed.”
Don’t miss the opportunity to listen to Vinny “The Lion” O’Brien’s first radio interview as he talks about his upcoming fight and what he hopes to accomplish as a professional fighter.
