by James Slater – 31-year-old B.J Flores is a very excited person right now. Currently in Australia to participate in a series of press conferences to hype his signed November 17th fight with IBO cruiserweight champ Danny Green, the undefeated contender is over the moon at how his big chance has come at last. Fans on this very web site were beginning to lose interest in Flores, 24-0-1(15), due to his recent inactivity. However, no-one was more frustrated than Flores himself, and the inactive spell was not his idea.
In any case, “El Peligroso” finally has the big challenge he wanted, and he is massively up for the fight – to take place in Perth, Australia in just over two months time.
Very kindly getting in touch with me, so as to speak about the “biggest fight of my career,” Flores, via his computer in Australia, had the following things to say about his fight with “The Green Machine,” a 37-year-old warrior who has never been stopped and who is 30-3(27) as a pro.
B.J began by telling me about the press tour he will shortly be undertaking..
“We will be going to Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane in the next five days,” Flores said via his computer. “The media here are really big on this fight. The fight is set for November 13th, in Perth and Green’s IBO title will be on the line. I’m very excited. I feel like Christmas has come early this year!
Flores has been waiting for his chance for months, and he has not fought since his 4th-round TKO win over Epifanjio Mendoza last August. Now free from his contract with Square Ring, the 31-year-old has the fight he has been “craving.”
“I have finally got the big fight I have been waiting for, the fight I have been craving,” B.J continued. “I called Danny Green out over. a year ago! I honestly feel the main reason Green accepted the fight with me is because of how the fight with Paul Briggs ended up – as a debacle.Green is a proud fighter and that was the reason he decided to step up and face a real guy like myself. You know, the Australian fans deserve better [from Green] than [his fights with] Paul Briggs and Manny Siaca. And now, with him fighting me, they can see Green in a real fight”
Flores rates Green highly, yet is convinced he will defeat him.
“I’m bigger, stronger and faster than Danny Green. I’m really looking forward to the fight, and I take my hat off to Green, who is a two-time world champion, for taking me on. I have waited for this for a LONG time. I hope I’m the underdog in the fight; I hope everyone picks him to win. That way, when I destroy him in November, I will be able to get more opportunities to face the top fighters out there. This fight will be a life-changing fight for me. This will be my coming out party!”
Though he has been absent from the ring, Flores has been in the gym. And he says he has been working hard, very hard!
“For the last year I’ve been in the gym with nothing but heavyweights.I’ve had great sparring, and my strength and power have increased by something like ten times. I tell you, Danny Green will find this out very early in the fight! Life is all about timing, and my big moment has finally arrived. I can’t wait”
B.J closed with a bold prediction. One that lets us know he is not worried at all about being the victim of a hometown verdict that gets handed in by the judges in Green’s homeland. Flores plans to take the fight out of the judges’ hands.
“I wouldn’t have taken this fight in his home town if I wasn’t sure I could knock Green out!”
Flores’ “coming out party” will be one huge occasion if he can become the first man to halt Green, that’s for sure. For the record, it has been Green doing the knocking out just lately; with the IBO champ’s last five foes being halted in pretty quick fashion. Can Flores halt Green’s momentum?
