by Charles White: With just under a week left to go before he faces Tomasz Adamek (41-1 27 with ko’s) at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, “Big” Michael Grant (46-3 with 34 ko’s) is training hard and leaving nothing to chance. His relationship with new trainer Eddie Mustafa Muhammad is apparently working out beautifully and they are ready to claim victory over the former light-heavyweight and cruiserweight champion. Grant even went as far as saying “Eddie and I relationship has gel together in knowing our goal and opponent for this fight. Boxing is one of elements to victory,” showing the utmost confidence in the fighter-trainer bond that has been forged between the two.
Few specifics are being leaked out with regards to Michael Grant’s preparation for this fight, and when asked about sparring partners, Michael said “no comments on sparring, had a number of guys who gave me goooood work.” It is hoped that Grant’s sparring partners for a fight of this magnitude are top notch, and with the fastidious nature of Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, there is no reason to think that this is not the case. In what is likely Grant’s last shot at glory, assuming he is victorious on the 21st, Michael fully intends to claim the heavyweight crown that has eluded him for his whole career. “Looking to fight for the championship in God speed, he knows my future” said Grant. And with the heavyweight division being what it is today, who is to say that Grant cannot accomplish his dream? As Grant points out in the following comment, the heavyweight division is not at its best; “the current state of the division is suffering, money has weakened the quality of the performance or performer, instead of learning the craft they chase the capital. It’s sad. But God is able.”
So for those doubting Michael Grant’s chances against Adamek, think twice, for he is a fighter on the cusp of getting back into the top 10, and with everything to gain and nothing to lose, his desire is unwavering. This author wishes good luck to a very humble, kind Michael Grant as he sets forth to accomplish all of his goals, inside the ring, and out.
