James “Buddy” McGirt, Sergio Martinez and Marco Huck To Attend Boxing Hall of Fame Weekend

CANASTOTA, NY –JUNE 4, 2010 – The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced today former junior welterweight and welterweight champion James “Buddy” McGirt will return to Canastota to attend festivities planned for the 21st Annual Hall of Fame Induction Weekend set for June 10-13th.

“We are so pleased to have ‘Buddy’ McGirt return to Canastota,” said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. “He is a real fan favorite and we are excited about welcoming him again to the Hall of Fame..”

Fighting out of Brentwood, NY, McGirt is the former IBF junior welterweight and WBC welterweight champion. He holds wins over Saoul Mamby, Frankie Warren, Howard Davis, Livingstone Bramble and Simon Brown. During a 15-year career, he posted a 73-6-1 (48 KOs) record. Now a highly respected trainer, he has worked with such fighters as Arturo Gatti, Antonio Tarver, Nate Campbell and his son, James Jr.

The June 10-13th Hall of Fame Induction Weekend will feature over 20 exciting events including a banquet, Madison Square Garden night, parade, golf tournament, cocktail party and the official induction ceremony honoring the Class of 2010. Living inductees to be honored at the Official Induction Ceremony on Sunday, June 13th are light flyweight champion Jung-Koo Chang (South Korea), featherweight champion Danny “Little Red” Lopez (USA), manager Shelly Finkel (USA), referee / commissioner Larry Hazzard (USA), promoter Wilfried Sauerland (Germany), matchmaker Bruce Trampler (USA) and journalist Ed Schuyler (USA). Posthumous inductees will also be honored.

Over 40 boxing stars are scheduled to participate in weekend festivities. In addition to McGirt other stars slated to appear include Nino Benvenuti, Carmen Basilio, Tony DeMarco, Ken Norton, Aaron “The Hawk” Pryor, Angelo Dundee, Leon Spinks, Gerry Cooney, Lou Duva, Sergio Martinez, Robert Guerrero and many others.

SERGIO MARTINEZ to visit World Boxing Hall of Fame

I.B.H.O.F., Guest of Honor and WBC Super Welterweight and Middleweight Champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez accompanied by his Trainer Gabriel Sarmiento and Advisor Sampson Lewkowicz will be present at the 21st Annual International Boxing Hall of Fame weekend, beginning June 10th – 13th. In addition, to being welcomed as an Honorary Guest & Marshall, Martinez will also demonstrate an exhibition work out for boxing fans alike on Friday, June 11th & Saturday, June 12th, which will include a 5K run with I.B.H.O.F. members. The fighting pride of Argentina, is keeping himself in top physical condition, as he awaits his next opponent to be announced in either Super Welterweight or Middleweight division. A separate press release will be issued to announce Martinez’s’ up coming fight that will be televised on HBO. The Argentina born Middleweight World Champion, now residing out of Oxnard, California is also being recognized by Ring Magazine and is scheduled to receive a belt.

Huck to attend Hall of Fame Weekend, defend title on August 21

Marco “Captain” Huck (29-1, 22 KOs) will make a fourth defence of his WBO Cruiserweight Title in Erfurt, Germany on August 21. The 25-year-old champion comes off a spectacular TKO victory over Brian “The Beast” Minto, who was knocked down three times before the fight was stopped. The opponent will be named soon. “I look forward to returning to action,” he said. “I don´t care who I will fight. As the world champion, there are no easy tasks for me. I will defeat anybody my team picks for me.”

Huck will be travelling to Canastota, New York later this week to attend the Hall of Fame Weekend as Wilfried Sauerland will be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. “This is a very special moment for Mr. Sauerland and I am thrilled to join him on this very special trip,” Huck said. “I have heard so many great things about the Hall of Fame Weekend. I cannot wait to attend the events and meet all the living boxing legends. I am sure it will be a trip to remember for a lifetime.”
