by James Slater – Though reigning WBC heavyweight king Vitali Klitschko insists he has not trained less than a hundred-percent for this Saturday’s title defence against Polish tough guy Albert Sosnowski, we all know that in reality he would have preferred to have been fighting someone else; and we all know who that someone is.!
At Monday’s press conference to talk about this coming Saturday’s clash in Germany, “Dr. Iron Fist” could not help turning some of his attention towards a certain David Haye, the current WBA heavyweight ruler.. As is the case with younger brother Wladimir Klitschko, Vitali wants to get Haye into the ring so as to be able to “punish” him for all the things he has said about the pair of them. In fact, as Vitali revealed when speaking to those gathered on Monday, Wladimir has taken the insults far more personally and it is he who aches to fight Haye the most.
Haye, though, has gone noticeably quiet as of late, and despite being very successful indeed in his attempts a year or so ago of getting under the skin of both giants from Ukraine, he does not seem to be in too big a rush to want to fight either brother now that it would seem both fights could be made relatively easily. Is Haye playing a waiting game, or is he reluctant to get it on with either brother?
After having read the intimidating message Vitali had for him, maybe Haye will choose to stay well clear of both “Doctors!”
“I want to fight David Haye very much,” Vitali stated Monday. “Wladimir wants to fight him also. I want to fight Haye because he has the WBA title. Wladimir wants to fight him because it’s personal. Wladimir says he’s not interested in his title. David Haye touched him so deeply that Wladimir wants to shut his mouth in the ring.
“David Haye understands the fact that the Klitschko brothers will be the end of his career. The fight against me will be much shorter than against Wladimir because Wladimir will beat him badly all 12-rounds and then knock him out. I will give him a much easier proposal. I’ll knock him out in three, maximum four-rounds!”
Ring magazine, IBF and WBO champion Wladimir has indeed spoken in the past of wanting to punish Haye for all 12-rounds before taking him out right at the very end of the contest, even stating that he will turn Haye’s face into “pizza” while doing so. With his promise of a short night, would Haye, then, be better off taking a fight with Vitali? Will “The Hayemaker” ever actually put pen to paper for either fight?
Worryingly for fight fans who want to see the big heavyweight bouts take place, recent word has suggested Haye’s next WBA title defence could come against fellow Londoner Audley Harrison. Though a somewhat interesting fight to U.K fans, this match-up, if it happened, would depress, maybe even anger, a number of international fight fans.
Haye has done the promotional job very well, in as much as all fans are talking about him facing either Klitschko, and it is clear both Wladimir and Vitali want to fight him ASAP. All we need now, apparently, is for Haye to get on with it and sign on for the fight(s) the whole boxing world wants to see!
