News: Alcine vs. Canclaux; Chambers vs Carrasquillo; Malpartida vs Scragg

After making his return to the ring with a win against a tough adversary on the August 28th installment of the Budweiser Boxing series, former WBA Super Welterweight Champion (2007-2008) Joachim “Ti-Joa” Alcine (31-1-0, 19KO’s) of Laval, Québec looks to continue his comeback on the 5th of December at the Casino de Montréal. His opponent will be Nice, France’s own Christophe “Rocky” Canclaux (40-2-0, 25KO’s), the former European Champion (2003-2007) and currently ranked #4 by the WBC, #6 by the WBA and #9 by the IBF. Alcine is currently training in Vero Beach, Florida, under the keen eye of world famous trainer James “Buddy” McGirt..

According to Yvon Michel, president of GYM: “Joachim’s goal is to fight for a world championship and regain his crown by 2010. A victory over Canclaux, considering his rakings and reputation, will be a huge step towards that goal. But rest assured, this is no easy fight!”

Bernard Roos, Canclaux’s promoter, has similar aspirations for his ward: “We accepted this fight against Alcine, even on his own turf, because we know that a victory for Canclaux will give him the attention he needs to fight for a world title in early 2010!”

Up for grabs in this match will be the WBO Super Welterweight Intercontinental title. It should also be noted that Canclaux has won his last 15 fights and is undefeated since 2005.

Troy Ross (22-1-0, 15KO) winner of “The Contender 2009”

Also fighting on the same card will be Toronto native Troy Ross, ranked #5 by the IBF, #8 by the WBO, and #11 by the WBC and the WBA, as he continues his seemingly unstoppable march towards the world title of his division. He will face off against Brazilian Daniel Bispo (21-11-0, 15KO’s) in an 8 round cruiserweight contest.

Bernard Barré of GYM has nothing but praise for the powerful puncher: “Ross will be in place for an IBF eliminator bout in early 2010, which will be his ticket to the world title in his next fight. I truly can’t imagine that anyone in the division can stand in his way.”

Tony Luis, Logan McGuiness, Wayne John & Lucia Larcinese

4 other fights will round out Alcine’s career defining card. Tony “the Lightning” Luis (7-0-0, 2KO’s), quickly becoming a fan favorite for his heart and enthusiasm, will be looking to remain undefeated as he squares off against Mexican brawler Isaac Pollo (9-6-0, 7KO’s).

Speedy Orangeville, Ontario native Logan “Cotton” McGuinness, who continues making a name for himself in Montreal going into his 4th fight at the Casino, looks to do what Ali Cheebah, Jojo Dan, Kevin Bizier, and Dierry Jean could not: knock out the ultra tough Cesar Soriano (20-24-0, 13KO’s) of Mexico City.

Also on the card, young Montreal heavyweight Wayne John (1-0-0, 1KO) takes on Stéphane “Brutus” Tessier (3-23-1, 1KO) of Longueil, Québec, and in the opener Lucia Larcinesse (3-4-0, 1KO), protégé of legendary trainer Abe Pervin, makes her first appearance in Québec as a pro. She will face off against American Karen Dulin (1-3-0, 1KO) of Mystic, Connecticut.

Please note that the main events will be shown live on “V” network starting at 9:00pm EST, right until 11:00pm.

WBA Title Fight Citizens Business Bank Arena

Kina Malpartida traveled from her native Peru in 2006 to made her USA boxing debut in the Battle In The Ballroom that February, and over the next 16 months fought five times at the Irvine Marriott, where she waged wars against Miriam Nakamoto and Ela Nunez, and crafted a 3-2 record.

Then Malpartida, who is also a Peru National Surfing Champion took a year off to reflect on her boxing career, and last February 10th at Madison Square Garden she burst back on the boxing scene with a vengeance facing 13-0 Maureen Shea for the vacant WBA Super Featherweight World Title, and shocked everyone by scoring a 10th round TKO win to capture the title.

Instantly becoming a national hero in Peru, she returned to Lima and on June 20th before a sold out crowd of 6,000 at the Coliseo Dibo Dammert she stopped Brazilian Halama Dos Santos in the seventh round to successful defend her world title. The fight was shown live to the nation of Peru and garnered a massive 85% share.

Kina now returns to the USA and California to defend her world title once again, and on Saturday, December 5th at Citizens Business Bank Arena she meet’s England’s 10-1 Lyndsey Scragg for her WBA Super Featherweight Belt on the Dynamite Explosion show!

Also featured on the six bout card will be former champion Armando Santa Cruz, top prospects Oscar Venegas and Ricky Duenas, and undefeated Peruvian boxers 9-0 Carlos Zambrano and 3-0 Juan Zegarra.
