From WBC President José Sulaimán: With our deepest sorrow, the WBC declares a day of world mourning for Charles Lomax, who recently passed away. Mr. Lomax was a gentleman, a professional, a loyal boxing lover and a great friend of mine. He worked for Don King Productions for more than a quarter century. From Don King Productions: Charles E. Lomax, the first African American to become a partner at the powerhouse law firm of Sidley & Austin and later general counsel for legendary promoter Don King where he helped negotiate some of the biggest contracts in boxing, televised-sports and entertainment history, died on Sunday at Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton, Fla..

Mr. Lomax had battled pancreatic cancer for over two years. He was 85.

Mr. Lomax was one of the first African American attorneys hired by the United States Internal Revenue Service in 1952. From that time through 1974, he served with distinction in the offices of the chief counsel and the Chicago regional counsel of the I.R.S.

He made history in 1975, becoming the first African American named partner at Sidley & Austin, the largest and most prestigious law firm in Chicago whose origins trace to 1866, paving the way for future Sidley & Austin lawyers like Barack and Michelle Obama. He loved both the practice of law and mentoring young lawyers. He will be remembered not only for his excellent work as an attorney, but also for his collegiality, good humor, grace and wit.

CULLMER – WILSON WAR VOTED PHILLY FIGHT OF THE YEAR FOR 2008

PHILADELPHIA (SEPTEMBER 25TH, 2009)—One guy had a record of 14-1. His opponent was 13-14. Did those records matter on the night when Gee Cullmer and Jameel Wilson waged war on September 12th, 2008 in The Legendary Blue Horizon?

No. These were two Philly fighters who put on yet another classic inside the hallowed halls of The Legendary Blue Horizon and on October 12th the two will be acknowledged for that great fight as they will be honored by accepting the award for the 2008 Philadelphia Fight of The year at 2nd annual Briscoe Awards Ceremony at the Veteran Boxing Association located at 2733 East Clearfield Street in Philadelphia.

This is the 2nd straight year that a fight that was promoted by Vernoca L. Michael and Blue Horizon Boxing Promotions Inc. was the winner of the Fight of the Year as in 2007 the award went to the memorable war between Elad Shmouel and Lenny DeVictoria.

The awards ceremony will last between 6pm and 9pm on October 12th as Bernard Hopkins will be honored as the fighter of the year on the strength of his win over middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik.

All of Philadelphia’s top fighters will be in attendance for this great evening.

PHILADELPHIA (September 25, 2009)– Israeli boxing sensation Ran ” Sweet Dreams” Nakash will return right here at Philadelphia’s Legendary Blue Horizon boxing arena Oct 2nd. Nakash, who holds a professional record of 20-0 with 15 knockouts, hopes to raise his win column against hard hitting Gary Gomez ( 18-10 ,7 K0’s) .

In the boxing ring, Nakash has demonstrated stunning knockout power …15 knockouts of his 20 fights while proudly representing Israel by wearing a Star of David on his shorts.

When he is not boxing Nakash serves as both as a commander of Israel Defense Force and chief instructor of Krav Maga, an Israeli fighting system. As a war hero, he has fought in the 2006 war against Hezbollah in Lebanon and has single handedly taken out terrorists both inside and outside of Israel.
