Airich: “Danny Williams is my strongest opponent so far!”

Bilbao / Hamburg, May 28th, 2008 — Usually heavyweight prospect Konstantin Airich (9-0-1, 8 kos) is full of power and self-confidence. But on his way to Bilbao (Spain) where the German interim champion faces British titleholder “Brixton Bomber” Danny Williams (38-6-0, 30 kos) tomorrow (Friday, May 30th) started to ponder on his chances..

“Danny Williams is a very experienced and tough fighter and a hard puncher” says Konstantin. “I will face him in only my tenth pro-fight. This is a very early stage of my career to face such a strong opponent.”

Is Konstantin afraid of Williams? “No way”, he answers. “But this is definitely the hardest test of my career so far. After all Danny has been in the ring with some of the best boxers in the world. He knocked out Mike Tyson and gave Vitali Klitschko a hard time before he was stopped in the eighth round.”

Trainer Hans-Jürgen Witte backs up his fighter. “This is Kontantin’s great chance”, says the experienced coach. “He definitely has enough power to knock out Williams and if he manages to get rid of him there might be some huge fights coming up.”

Airich: “If I beat Williams I would love to face Francois Botha next.”

There will be two title fights in Bilbao tomorrow night as well. WBC international cruiseweight champion Herbie Hide is looking to defend his title against Ehinomen Ehikhamenor from Benin (fighting out of New York) and ARENA’s middleweight prospect Mahir “Lion” Oral faces stable-mate Alexander Sipos for the EBA interim championship.

Also on the card: rising light welterweight star Sergej Sorokin (vs. veteran Juan Carlos Villareal from Argentina), unbeaten heavyweight Yakup Saglam (vs. Mate Kubinyi from Greece), super middleweight Peter Henssler (giving his pro-debut vs. Andrei Tolstihs from Latvia) and local heros Ruben Diaz (vs. Jurijs Boreiko) and Hector Moreira (vs. Alexander Saltykov).

The show will be broadcasted LIVE by local TV station EITB, German sports network DSF, FOX TV in Turkey.
