Cecilia Braekhus to fight Adelita Irizarry on May 17

Cecilia Braekhus is eager to continue her march up the rankings on May 17 when she takes on Adelita Irizarry in Bayreuth. The First Lady (6-0, 2 KOs) is looking for her seventh win in as many fights. “I can´t wait to get back into the ring,” she said. “I have learned so much in practice and now I want to use it in the ring..”

Earlier this year, the Scandinavian beauty became the first lady fighter ever to be signed by Sauerland Event. Not only has she turned into a huge fan and media darling but she has also wasted no time to impress Ulli Wegner. “Cecilia is a very special fighter,” the experienced coach lauded. “She has got what it takes to be a world champion one day. She is talented, willing to learn and able to adjust. She has incredible potential.”

Braekhus last clinched a unanimous points decision against Germany´s Tatjana Dieckmann at the end of March before spending the better part of April in a special high altitude training camp in Switzerland. Together with IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham, Alexander Frenkel and Francesco Pianeta, she worked out twice a day to get in shape for the May 17 fight. Apart from numerous runs, skiing was also part of the preparation. The group even attended an open air concert of Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff. “It was a great experience but very exhausting,” the 26-year-old said. “The team spirit is great. Ulli Wegner is a great coach and the boys are very nice to me. They are like brothers and keep good care of me. I can learn so much from them in practice just by watching them. It is a lot of fun to work with them.”

Next up for the First Lady is a meeting with Adelita Irizarry (4-1, 2 KOs) from the US. “All Americans are very tough,” Braekhus said. “But so am I. It will be a difficult fight but I am looking forward to it. I´m very happy to be back in the ring and want to keep improving.”
