FSN Presents Three Women’s Title Bouts on February 8

FSN is going back inside the squared circle with three women’s championship fights, including a main event featuring Holly Holm, 2005 and 2006 Ring Magazine female fighter of the year, 2006 IFBA fighter of the year and 2007 WBAN fighter of the year who is one of the biggest draws in women’s boxing. But all of the accolades and attention will be worthless if Holm doesn’t defend her title during the BEST DAMN CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT NIGHT PERIOD special, airing at 11:00 PM local on Friday, February 8 from the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, CA..

Holm (20-1-2 6 KOs) knows holding onto her IFBA welterweight championship won’t be easy, as she’s sure to have her hands full with Belinda “Brown Sugar” Laracuente (23-17-3, 9 KOs), a New York City brawler known for her toughness and tenacity.

In the co-main event, Chevelle Hallback (25-5-1, 11 KOs), the No. 1 lightweight in the world battles sixth-ranked Melissa Hernandez (7-1-1, 2 KOs) for the vacant IFBA lightweight belt in a 10-round bout.

Plus, the current IFBA junior featherweight champion Lisa “Bad News” Brown (13-3-3, 4KOs) puts her title on the line against Jeri Sitzes (14-5-1, 6 KOs) in another 10-round bout. The Trinidad-born Brown won her IFBA title in Albuquerque, NM in March 2007 in a decision over hometown favorite Jackie Chavez.

BDSSP’s Chris Rose hosts the evening as Hall of Fame announcer Barry Tompkins calls the fights alongside award-winning analyst Rich Marotta.

BEST DAMN CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT NIGHT PERIOD is produced by FSN and presented by Roy Englebrecht Events in association with Hollybrook Regency Inc.

“This fight night showcases established professionals at the peak of their game. This will surely be another quality fight for FSN, and one we know will draw more fans to women’s boxing,” said IFBA President Judy Kulis.

IFBA

2007 marks the 10-year anniversary of the founding of the IFBA and its many accomplishments. Since 1997, the IFBA has sanctioned over 100 women’s title bouts, been the first to sanction all women’s cards on cable and broadcast television including ESPN2, USA Network, Pay-Per-View, Fox Sports International and on SBS, MBC and MBC-ESPN in Korea.

With the help of various State Boxing Commissions, the IFBA established many of the rules used in the sport today. In 2006 the IFBA held the first women’s world title fights in China and crowned two champions from North Korea.
