By Wray Edwards, all photos © Wray Edwards/ESB ringside at the Seminole Warriors Hard Rock Live: There has been talk about getting Edison Miranda and Jean Pascal in the same ring for a Boxing match. Last night they were in the same ring alright…sort-of. Edison Fought David Banks and Jean fought Omar Pittman. Edison and Jean both won their contests, but that’s where the similarity stopped.
Pascal found himself in a real battle with Omar, while Edison had smoother sailing with David. Also, there was a massive difference between Jean and Edison when it came to corner support as the slide show below reveals…and I do mean reveals:
Edison fiddled around with Banks until the third round, with little or no serious punches delivered by either fighter until Bam!! Miranda caught David near the ropes and knocked him through them..
The ref runs over to have a look at David. He’s half in and half out…do I give him 20 seconds or what?
It appears that Ref Telis Assimenios is looking for instructions from the timekeeper or someone.
Someone must have told him to give the count and he does so as the dazed Banks tries to return to planet Earth.
Jessie, Richelle and Daniella agreed that David was well and truly KO’d.
Mr. Klitschko seemed pensive about the evening’s events.
Before Edison and Banks had their abbreviated encounter, Jean Pascal and Daniel Gonzales (purple trunks) scrapped through ten rounds of back-and-forth blunt trauma.
Jean also had a left…
and some other stuff which was troublesome to Omar.
Omar was down a couple of times by tripping loss of balance (I thought) but the Ref saw fit to eight-count one of them. Pittman staggered Jean two or three times and gave him a real tough fight.
Alas Pascal scored with the left on a regular basis.
In the end, Pascal was given the UD in the Super Middleweight scrap. One thing was very noticeable during the contest as compared to the Miranda fight. Apron photographers are in physical contact with the canvass platform. As the fighters go at it, it is possible to feel the energy of the boxers as they fight. As most really effective punches are floor mounted, (also known as “sitting down” on a punch for some reason), when a Boxer sets and delivers, there is a definite vibration in the ring structure.
By far, Miranda’s deliveries were markedly heavier and more powerful that Pascal’s by that standard. Pascal appeared to be lighter of foot as well as less violent in punching power. Jean had enough to make Omar’s face get puffy, but he could not deliver real KO power to the durable Pittman. From what I saw, Pascal might want to have another look at his crusade to get a fight with Edison. He might regret it.
Besides, who wants to get into a boxing ring with sweaty old Edison when he could be spending time with his consultants?
In other action, Jesus Pabon, (blue trunks) who got whipped up on pretty good last time, passed it along to Daniel Gonzalez in scheduled six rounder.
Pabon was as better than Daniel as Jesus’ last opponent was over him. Jesus has nice combinations and might have had an off night last time, as I think he has good potential.
He mixes up rights and lefts, straights and hooks with an occasional uppercut to good effect.
These weapons proved too much for Daniel who went down in the Third Round and was counted out at 2:34.
Jesus had a good night…
but not as good as Keston, whom everybody agreed had the best job if you can call it that) in the room. Still can’t figure out when I had the choice, what to do, what to do, I said to myself “Say that camera looks really sexy!” buzz off girls. Now I have a stiff neck and 500 photos to edit. What’s wrong with that picture?
Happened to stop by Sultan Ibragimov’s training camp on the way to the venue. Due to an accident on Highway 95, I missed all the gory sparring and sweaty speed bag. All was not lost, however, as Russian TV was there and the interviewers put on quite a show; Will post those festivities in a week or so.
