WIBF flyweight champion Regina Halmich (53-1-1, 16 KOs) is set for the maybe last fight of her career against Hagar Shmoulefeld Finer (14-4-3, 2 KOs) on Friday night at the dm-arena in her hometown of Karlsruhe, Germany. The arena has been sold out for weeks. Halmich and Finer were on hand at today’s press conference Karlsruher Castle..
Despite all the talk of retiring, for me the fight on Friday is the most important thing,” said Halmich who turned 31 just eight days before the bout. “While it’s my last fight, I didn’t take it easy in training. I prepared well in Berlin and made every effort. I am fixated on the fight against Hagar Shmoulefeld.”
“I respect Regina Halmich, she has done much for women’s boxing,” stated Shmoulefeld. “But the respect is only outside the ring. In the fight I will defeat her. After being ripped off in the fight against Julia Sahin (split decision loss), I hope the judges won’t give any gifts to Regina. To exclude them, I should probably knock her out!”
“I will not lose and will clearly win,” snapped back Halmich. “We are both very good boxers and it will be a great fight. I think the bout will primarily be decided by mental strength and stamina.”
In a second female world title fight, GBU junior bantamweight champion Alesia Graf (18-1, 8 KOs) faces Esmeralda Moreno (8-2, 3 KOs). “It’s too bad Regina is retiring,” said Graf. “She has done so much for boxing. Because of her I started boxing. So much motivation radiates from her and I’ve learned a lot by watching her. I am thrilled to be appearing on this card.”
In other action, unbeaten heavyweight KO artist Denis Boytsov (18-0, 16 KOs) takes on Ademar Leonardo Correa (8-3-1, 4 KOs), recent world title challenger Khoren Gevor (27-3, 15 KOs) returns in his first fight since his valiant challenge against IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham. Gevor will face Gabriel Lecrosnier (7-8-1, 1 KOs), and spotlight heavyweight Dieter Roth (15-0, 10 KOs) will face the dangerous Adnan Serin(18-7, 7 KOs).
“Universum Champions Night” Karlsruhe on November 30th: Her last fight – Regina Halmich returns to Karlsruhe
Another spectacular title fight has been added to the „Universum Champions Night“ fightcard in Karlsruhe. The evening will be headlined with the last fight of “Box Queen” Regina Halmich but also Universum world champion Alesia Graf (18-1-0 (8)), who will defend her GBU belt at jr. bantamweight against Esmeralda Moreno (8-2-0 (3)) of Mexico.
Regina Halmich (53-1-1 (16)) will step into the ring for the last time in her hometown of Karlsruhe /Germany (from 10:10pm live on ZDF). In her 45th title fight she will jeopardize her WIBF belt at flyweight for the last time before retiring and ending an extremely successful boxing career.
Regina Halmich, who will have her 56th pro fight, will defend her WIBF championship belt at flyweight against Hagar Shmoulefeld Finer. Again it will be another tough challenge.
This fight night at the dm-arena in Karlsruhe will be a special moment in the boxing history, not only for her but also for the boxing fans in her hometown.
13 years and 9 months after her pro debut on March 4th 1994, it was Regina Halmich’s wish to return to her hometown where she started her career. Universum boss Klaus – Peter Kohl had no problems in making this wish come true. This night will be a glorious goodbye for Regina Halmich who will turn 31 just 8 days before this event.
The Israeli Hagar Shmoulefeld Finer (14-4-3 (2)) is already preparing for this event and for sure, the WIBF Interconti Champion at Jr. Bantamweight will be a tough challenge for Halmich. The 24 year old from Tel-Aviv lost against the Hungarian World Champion Reka Krempf in June 2005 by marginal decision. In January 2006 she had another tough battle with the current WIBF World Champion at Jr. Flyweight Julia Sahin and lost by a controversial split decision.
The originally for November 30 planned world title defense of undefeated WBO junior middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk against challenger Lukas Konecny is off due to an injury suffered by Konecny. SES fighter Konecny dropped out due to a rib injury suffered during sparring. Dzinziruk-Konecny will be rescheduled for a future “Universum Champions Night.”
European light heavyweight champion Thomas Ulrich has injured his right hand and be forced undergo an operation next week. As a result, he will not be able to fight against mandatory challenger Yuri Barashian.
Unbeaten heavyweight KO artist Denis Boytsov (18-0, 16 KOs) has been added to the card and will face Ademar Leonardo Correa (8-3-1, 4 KOs) and another high profile fight will be announced by Universum Box-Promotion next week.
All tickets at the 7,500-seat arena have already been completely sold out well more than a month in advance.
