08.06.07 – By Tony Nobbs: Big punching Ranee Ganoy, a Sydney based Filipino, dubbed the “Aussie Destroyer” after several impressive knockouts over local fighters headlined the Angelo Di Carlo’s Ace Boxing Promotions Foxsport card at Brisbane’s Mansfield Tavern in Queensland on Friday night. Ganoy successfully defended his IBF Pan Pacific lightweight title with a unanimous 12 round decision over under rated Indonesian Joey Di Ricardo.
A packed house saw Ganoy have it his own way for most of the bout. Ranee looked on the verge of a stoppage in round seven as he gave Di Ricardo a steady going over until the Indonesian’s mouthpiece was knocked out. When the fight resumed, Team Bohol’s “KO Kid” Ganoy appeared to just shout up shop and spent a lot of the remaining action on the back foot. Di Ricardo had good rounds in 8 and 9, his best previous being the 3rd tat he was winning until being hit with a hard right hand short follow up shots in the final few seconds.
For the first 6 ad a half rounds Ganoy displayed a good array of punches landing damaging uppercuts, rights and a two fisted body attack. Di Ricardo, showed for his part a great heart and strong chin, absorbing telling blows that have felled more highly rated opponents. In the latter part of the fight, Ganoy displayed reasonable boxing skill and ran out a clear winner. He did appear a little bothered at times late and may have suffered an injury? Eastside had it 119-109.
Ganoy, has not lost since being stopped in 5 heated rounds by current WBO interim title holder Mick Katsidis in Brisbane in 2005, and won this belt with a round 8 TKO of come backing former IBF world 130 lb champ Robbie Peden, also in Brisbane. Di Ricardo was previously stopped in the 1st round (body shot) by current IBF 140 lb champ Lovemore Ndou last year and that result reflects more on Lovemore’s quality than Joey’s.
In the main support Sonni Michael Angelo, from the Gold Coast in Qld, scored a 6 round Tech decision over Victorian Sean Connell, super middle (Connell a pound over). Not an attractive fight to watch. Sonni a little more aggressive. Angelo deducted a point in rd 3 for hittting on the break.
Promising local Tyrone Tongia scored a 6 round UD over Filipino Ramilio Cabelles at jnr middleweight. A good litle stoush, Cabilles brave but Tongia more effective and had the lanky Ramilio backing up more as the fight went. Tongia was stunned in round 2 with a looping right as he came forward.
Mick Pechey, a popular former Brisbane Bronco rugby league front rower captured the vacant sate heavyweight title with a round 3 TKO of Greg Tomlinson,. Tomlinson was dropped late in round 2 by a left hook, then hurt bad with a right in the 3rd before a left hook had him in trouble. A timely RSC with Greg still on his feet.

Nathan, twin brother of Paul, won each round but hurt his right hand in rd 2, then getting his left going in the 3rd to have Hirawa bloodied around mouth and nose. Te Rangi’s mouthguard came out several times and thankfully RSC at 2.01 mark.
In a great welterweight 6 rounder between 2 former amateur standouts, Jason Kanofski, in only his 4th bout and pro debuting Aarom Bartley showed plenty of class with the result being a split draw. Eastside gave the busier Kanofski, son of former Qld middleweight champ a 1 point edge courtesy of a big round 4 where he visibly hurt NSW’s Bartley with a body attack that had Aaron retreating and not punching back for most of the round. Both look good prospects capable of at least vying for National title before the end of their careers.
In the show opener, Graham Foley, from Brisbane scored a 2 round knockout of English born Paul Bryden from the Sunshine Coast, set for 4, at jnr welter. Bryden was getting the best of the action until being nailed with a short right hand as he was against the ropes. Ten Count. Foxsport Commentators: Andy Raymond & Brad Vocale.
