Huck vs Tokarev in Bielefeld, Germany

02.04.07 – Marco Huck wants to lift the cruiserweight belt rather sooner than later, and the undefeated 22-year-old will celebrate a special homecoming on May 5 when he takes on Russia´s Vadim Tokarev in an IBF Cruiserweight boxing Eliminator. Huck (18-0, 14 KOs) was thrilled to hear that his home city of Bielefeld has been chosen as the venue. “It has always been my dream to fight in front of my home fans,” he vowed. “I am delighted that the biggest fight of my career will take place at home. I will not disappoint my fans.”..

With just one win between him and a world title fight, Huck is confident he can put aside unbeaten Tokarev (23-0-1, 16 KOs) – even though he expects the Russian to give him a tough boxing challenge. “Lots of people have told me how strong an opponent he is,” Huck stated. “He has yet to lose a fight. But I will do everything possible to beat him on May 5. It´s a great motivation that a win will put me in line for a shot at the world title.”

Huck, who last edged Pietro Aurino in a battle for the vacant EU-Championship and also clinched a unanimous decision against Ismail Abdoul, hopes his hometown fans will make the difference. “Against a world-class fighter such as Tokarev the support of the crowd will help me”, he stated.

Asked about a potential clash with Gentleman Henry Maske, Huck said: “I haven´t really thought about that. When he stepped down ten years ago I was only 12. I don´t think he will return. But if he decided to come back, it would be a big honour for me to fight him.”

Also in action in Bielefeld will be German heavyweight Timo Hoffmann (36-4, 20 KOs) and Russian sensation Alexander Povetkin (11-0, 9 KOs). The hard-hitting Olympic boxing gold medallist last saw off David Bostice in Rostock (TKO 2).
