Scoop’s Miami Mailbox

15.02.07 – Greetings from beautiful Florida! You had a lot to say about the Peter-Klitschko-Maskaev topic…I’ve seen up close how Don king operates and how pride can destroy you. Renaldo Snipes was the original opponint for Tyson after his loss to Douglas and we were all happy for Snipes in the gym he was to get 750.000 in 1990 most money he ever made.A few months into training King calls Snipes at Gleasons and tells him your purse is down to 250.000 plus 50.000 for training expences again still more money then he ever made plus this is national exposure for Snipes every round he lasts or does something to Tyson will ressurect his carrier not that he would win.Snipes tells King to shove it and is fighting some pug for 5.000 and Tillman gets the fight .You cant let pride get in the way stupid move. -Strongman

Scoop’s Reply: That’s an interesting story if it’s 100% true. Snipes was one of those awkward and very tough types that perhaps Mike’s management sudenly got cold feet about. Will definitely have to ask my good friend Mr. Snipes about this. We know the majority of fans think Peter should take the lucrative offer. I wonder what Samuel’s lovely wife’s position is on this matter.

I can not wait to get don king out of the boxing picture. He is the devil of boxing. second this writer is very good keep up the good work great article well wrote. -Steve

Scoop’s Reply: All in all, Don King has been a tremendous credit to boxing, with all the unforgettable entertainment he’s produced for FOUR decades now. Like all of us he’s human. But if he continues to try to freeze out the Klitschkos out of pursuing the dream they’ve devoted their lives to, like he did to Lennox Lewis for all those years, Steve, I can’t argue with anything you say.

Scoop, Absolutley outstanding article! Well done! -Dallasrepub

The only sensible reason I can think of for Peter holding out would be the absence of an injury clause that would protect Peter in the case of Vitali getting injured again and being unable to fight Maskaev now or Peter later.Given the history here, that would be a reasonable request on Sam’s part.Maybe that is what is holding things up. -hiker

Scoop’s Reply: Great point. Valid concern and Team Klitschko should consider offering such a clause. But based on some of the training action I’ve been privileged to see of Vitali, his knee looks strong and his fists are as sharp and quick as ever – even saw him running up steps almost as smooth as Maurice Greene or Jeremy Warriner.

SCOOP: EXCELLENT ARTICLE…YOU EXPLAINED THE TRUTH 100%! THE CONTROVERSY IS BEING GENERATED ENTIRELY BY SAM PETER’S CAMP…BECAUSE THEY DON’T WANT THEIR FIGHTER IN THE RING AGAIN WITH KLITSCHKO. PERIOD. -KENMORE

Scoop’s Reply: Thank you sir. Yes I do believe I presented the issue fairly and objectively. Some truth’s, as we know, are very difficult for certain people to accept.

Scoop,do you work for the Klits???Sounds more like a love in/promotor/P.R. guy talking than a reporter.Wlad dropped 3 times by Peter and did out box him for a win.Ferocious beating????LOL,Yeah P.R. guy just about right….P.S. don’t sleep on Austin,it’s WK’S Sanders/Brewster spring meltdown anniversary!!We’ll see -Roy Jones Sr.

Scoop’s Reply: Dear Mr. Jones Sr. I write the truths about boxing that need to be written. Were you in AC and did you see Samuel Peter’s head one hour after the Klitschko fight? His almost unrecognizable face was a grotesque swollen mess. He looked to be in great pain and I felt sad for him. Three knockdowns? Two of which came from illegal behind the head shots. The rematch would be interesting. We’ll see if Peter would like to exact revenge against the older brother, but so far it doesn’t look like he’s interested. Mr. Jones, I’m going to do you a favor – Do NOT bet on the Klitschko-Austin match.

As proven by his shameless vandetta against Floyd Mayweather on these pages, Scoop Malinowski has no credibility as a journalist. So it comes as no surprise to read this hogwash coming from him on this issue. Peter knocked Klitschko down not one but three times during their fight (which is available on youtube if anyone wishes to verify). How does this amount to a “ferocious beating” at the hands of Wladimir Klitschko? This disgustingly one-sided article makes no mention of the 2 eliminator fights Peters had to endure against Toney to finally get a legitimate shot at the title. All Peters and his camp are asking for is what they were promised. Noone should be fooled by Scoop malinowski’s obsfucation of this issue. The man has paid his due and he deserves his shot. Simple as that -Sean

Scoop’s Reply: Sean, In your own words, All Klitschko and his camp “are looking for is what they were promised” as according to the publicly released document called the WBC Champion Emeritus from Jose Sulaiman in Dec. 2005. What’s not to understand about that? How are you able to obsfucate that fact from arriving at your open-minded and objective opinion? What’s more, Vitali vs. Oleg is a much bigger event than Oleg vs. Sam. By the way, did you see Floyd has handpicked his next safe opponent? Hatton is the supposedly-retiring bully’s next target now. Until FLoyd fights or even talks about fighting the best (Margarito, Williams, Cotto) I believe he’s afraid. I previously presented PBF’s 15 excuses to dodge Margarito, and plenty other evidence of double talk, what more do you need to see? Listen, Floyd is a great fighter, a beautiful athlete, a nice guy and a sensitive superstar. As a champion, he must give true threats like Margarito, Williams and Cotto the same opportunities at greatness that he himself was given by Genaro Hernandez, Arturo Gatti, Diego Corrales and Oscar.

don king probably persuaded peters camp to sit on the offer . most fighters never recover after a long beat down from vk. corrie sanders, danny williams kurt johnson, hell he ran lennox into retirement. -wofat

Scoop’s Reply: Good point Wo, Vitali pretty much ended the careers of some pretty big, solid and confident heavyweights. Lennox was on top and said he wanted three more fights before Vitali fight. Corrie was sky high after what he did to Wladimir. And Danny would have been champion if he were fighting any other titleholder that night IMO. Peter is formidable but his most impressive wins did not come against elite, big strong heavyweights.

HERE’S WHAT REALLY MATTERS. VITALI IS BACK ANND ALL YOU PRETENDERS BETTER GET READY TO FIGHT, BECAUSE THIS MAN IS NOT GOING TO STOP UNTIL HE HAS KNOCKED YOU OUT! DO YOU UNDERSTAND!!!!PRETENDERS EXIT STAGE RIGHT! -DAN

Scoop’s Reply: You’re a lyricist like my man Ace who is always hyping Serena. Ace knew Serena would win the Australian Open and he told us in his own inimitable style for two weeks. You sound similarly as sure as Ace about what Vitali is going to do in 2007.

Wlad=No Chin.Vit= No Heart -Roy Jones Sr.

Scoop’s Reply: May I ask Roy, Is there anything, just anything you admire or respect about the Klitschko’s?
—————-

Scoop, You’re right on the money! Who can blame Peter’s handlers… Peter actually looked like a boxer last time out… against a guy who’s 5’9! And even then he didn’t land ONE overhand right. Older Klit would kill Peter… just like D. Williams vs Older Klit except even worse… at least D Williams had another two inches on Peter and threw some straight punches.

Scoop’s Reply: I agree, Peter did look very good against Toney. But he should have. Vitali Klitschko is going to be a whole ‘nother world. Ya’AL B. Sure Don King knows how good the Klitschko’s are. There’s a reason ol’ DK didn’t let Ruiz, Byrd or Brewster mess with Vitali. Some great fighters don’t get the appropriate respect and recognition until much later (Holmes, Lewis). But Vitali will eventually get his, you can be sure of that.

Any credibility Scoop Malinowski had as a journalist is now gone. if it’s a press release, say it’s a press release, but don’t pretend to be functioning as a journalist and write a piece of PR garbage like this. I hope you are being compensated richly to sacrifice your career. -wrinkle nut

Thanks for making it clear for all the haters out there Scoop. They just can’t get it through their thick skulls that the rule giving Vitali Emiretus status trumps ANY mandatory.

THANK YOU SCOOP for your honest and thoughtful analysis. It’s time that someone have the bodyparts to reveal Don King for what he is….Don King will never allow the fight to happen between Peter and Vitali Klitschko should Peter win the fight against Maskaev. King was quoted in the past saying that he will never let a Klitschko fight one of his fighters, AND King definitely wants to stand in the way of the Klitschko brothers earning the Championship titles….I wish it were that simple to allow Peter first crack at Maskaev and then let the winner fight Vitali Klitschko but it isn’t. If Vitali doesn’t get a chance at fighting Maskaev first and THEN Peter, he may as well have stayed in retirement. It’s such a shame in my opinion, that this whole mess has marred what could have been the most exciting news currently in heavyweight news. This threatened litigation is really disappointing. -Sunshinetrue

Scoop’s Reply: Well said Sunshinetrue. And do you remember this? When Tyson/King were forced by NJ judge Amos Saunders to promise Lewis the next shot at Mike Tyson after Tyson unified with Seldon. Of course Lewis did not get to fight Tyson then because King made Tyson vs. Holyfield. Actually DK gave us a historic show that night – one of my favorite night’s of boxing ever – but Lewis should have got that fight, if King/Tyson had kept their promise which was court-ordered. So it’s true, if Oleg fights Peter and loses, any promises of Vitali getting the winner should absolutely not be taken at face value.

Scoop even though I disagree with some of your stances in the piece I find this to be very well written and objectively balanced you have stated you stance and back it up with that which is.I enjoyed reading this piece and in some ways I am beging to have an appreciation for folk in the opposing camp. This is far more objective Scoop and I think you have done a great job on this one. -Phenyo

Scoop’s Reply: Phenyo, thank you sir, I appreciate your honesty and compliments. Hey, if Peter eventually KO’s Vitali, he’s the man. If I do say so, I think I hit the nail on this whole issue. We’ll see how it all plays out. But the bottom line is Boxing NEEDS HWT Unification NOW. We are losing territory to MMA. I even found myself skipping over Sugar Shane to Frank Shamrock on Saturday night, nothing against Sugar he looked awesome and super quick, but Frank was in the better fight with Renzo Gracie. IMO boxing can not afford Peter to hold the WBC title hostage by fighting a half dozen of Don King employees over the next 3 years, in order to stall HWT unification. This can’t be allowed in this critical moment in HWT history. We need unification WITHOUT Don King demanding options on the Klitschkos. If the Klitschkos don’t need options, Why does King?
